Dishonest Staff
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel was really nice. The room was clean, the amenities were great, and the landscape was beautiful. But the staff is very dishonest. I left a bag of sentimental valuables my last day at the hotel. Later that night I called and they told me only the cleaning staff has access to the lost and found and I would have to call the next day. The next day my dad called and they told him that nothing had been found. Later that day my mom called and they told there he room had not been cleaned yet, and when they looked nothing was found. It very disappointing that 3 different stories had been told to us about our belongings. Clearly they had been found and whoever found them had no intention of notifying us. If you stay at this hotel make sure to triple check and lock your valuables up. If you don't it's not likely you'll see them again.

Great first visit to Mexicali
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We came into town for a couple days to watch an Aguilas game and visit some breweries, and Lucerna was a marvelous base of operations. Daniel and Antonio got us checked into the room and both were great guys--thankfully both were bilingual as our Spanish is still a work in progress. The room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed and ice cold AC. Strong and fast wifi. The room we were in overlooked the bar--it closes at a reasonable hour but they also started the music pretty early on Sunday morning so you may want to avoid bar-adjacent rooms if you're not an early riser. The grounds were more resort-like than we expected and we witnessed multiple wedding parties over the course of two days. There are plenty of services near the hotel like a bank and markets, and the neighborhood seemed safe--we walked back from Cerveceria Puerco Salvaje one evening and it was a perfectly pleasant stroll. Note that Lucerna's pools are not heated so you'd have to be incredibly brave to jump in in November. Upon checking out, our Uber back to the border was 67 pesos. I would readily stay here again if returning to Mexicali.

Visit the Grandma

We were a little stand off-ish in renting a hotel as places we visited in this border town werent always the best looking and we usually stayed in our RV or hotel in Calexico. This hotel exceeded our expectations! It looked just like the pictures shown...we had a room with two very comfortable beds. Great spacious size...was clean and had all basic amenities needed including a fridge and coffee pot. Had guarded parking 24hrs and quite a few restaurants
, bars and lounges on premesis. Place was very nice and modern...pools looked tempting and patio area clean. Service was excellent bellman greeted us, directed us to checkin which was swift and walked us to our room. He explained different restaurants and how to work a/c. The friendliest of staff all greeted with smiles each time past by morning or night. Had breakfast buffet at the cafe Portales was like 23 US dollars for me and my mom was delicious and decent selectiom with lots of fresh juice options. Price for hotel was very inexpensive for the quality of the hotel compared to what guests in my home town in Vegas pay. We will definitely be using this place again when we visit Mexicali 100%

Great place, terrible front desk personal
Reviewed 2 months ago

My family and I were pleased with the rooms and staff attention in general, the worst (and unique) moment was when we get first time to the front desk. The reception by Gustavo was very unfriendly and despotic, and that’s very disappointing because the hotel is incredibly clean and the details in all areas are exceptionally good in comparison on other motels of the area.

First time visitor

First, let me say the person who wrote the review about the tree sap in the front of the hotel could have parked under the shade canopies that are provided in the other lot's provided. I stayed at the Hotel Lucerna over the Labor Day weekend and had a great experience, from the front end staff to the employees who want to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. Some spoke English which helped, my room was nice with a single king size bed near the pool no complaints. Hotel grounds well maintained and clean. For the labor day weekend and everything the hotel had going on event wise I feel the hotel staff handled things very well. I also feel it's up to the visitors to clean up after themselves, just because your staying at a hotel shouldn't mean you leave your mess for someone else to clean up. You should be courteous to the other hotel guest's. IMO. I would certainly stay at the Hotel Lucerna again on a return visit to Mexicali.
