How to Get There
This hotel is lovely, and has b Great food including a fabulous grill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I also go to the gym there and love it. I perfect place to work out. They also have an amazing Sunday brunch with grilled seafood as well as all the standards.
We recently spent two nights at Hotel Coral and Marina for a short vacation to enjoy Valle de Guadalupe (Wine Country) and Ensenada.
Initially I had scheduled a weekend about a month prior, but we had to reschedule for this weekend, the hotel made the process of rescheduling, very easy.
Early Saturday morning we departed from Los Angeles, the drive was quick, a 15 minute wait to get into Mexico at the San Ysidro Border. Auto Insurance was purchased online ahead of time at Sanborne’s and we filled out, printed and signed our FMM Cards too.
It was slow going up the first hill into Tijuana, seemed like a lot of traffic, but after that it was smooth sailing into Ensenada. We had our toll funds ready (some $1 bills and silver change), but the booths were manned by volunteers accepting donations (education?) so we gave them the funds intended for the tolls.
On our way to Valle de Guadalupe we stopped at the iconic LaFonda for lunch. The food is okay, but the view and the rooster are terrific!
Finally into the Valle we made two winery stops. It was a beautiful, crisp spring day and on our way home we found a small place selling local olives, so we stocked up.
Coming over the hill into Ensenada, I get butterflies, I love it here.
Pulling up to the front of Hotel Coral and Marina, we are greeted by the smiling and friendly bell boys. Check in is swift and we are in our Presidential Suite in no time. The views are spectacular from every corner of the suite: the dining table, from the living area, the bedroom and even from the large bathtub. Ocean, ocean, ocean. Every detail of the room, great and small has been considered.
After enjoying a glass of wine on one of our two balconies we take a walk around the marina and around the resort. It’s only been a year since the last visit, yet so many upgrades and remodels. The biggest one is the coffee shop next to reception. Spacious, comfortable seating at tables or couches and a big selection of sweets to enjoy with your warm or cold coffee/tea.
On our way back to our room we stop and speak with the Concierge, Tony about a dinner recommendation. We had our heart set on seafood, octopus specifically. Not only did Tony make us a reservation, but he arranged our transportation too. Upon arrival we had the best table in the house. We were seated inside, which was very comfortable, yet so close to the crashing waves that we occasionally received a splash on the window - stunning. We arrived shortly before sunset and what a treat it was to watch the sun fall beyond the ocean. Little did we know, the main event was yet to come. We started with the clams, he had the octopus (he is very picky and raved about this dish) and I had the sea bass. He was thrilled that they had Stella and I was thrilled to find Roganto Wine on the menu. Brilliant meal and the bill was very affordable. This one of my top 5 meals ever!!
When we got back to the hotel we could hear live music, which lead us to the outdoor marina bar/restaurant. The band was great and there was a nice crowd! We enjoyed a nightcap and both agreed that this was the perfect end to the perfect, albeit long day.
The next morning we were up early to enjoy the gym. Again, a beautiful surprise to see more new improvements (hurray for row machines and ocean view yoga studio!). We walked around the marina and freshened up for Sunday buffet. There were so many items to choose from, we enjoyed some fresh made-to-order omelets, fruit, seafood and mimosas to wash it all down. The lamb over the outdoor fire smells so good and tastes even better.
The next few hours were spent poolside, getting some sun and visiting with the other guests, enjoying a cocktail, and laughing at the kids frolicking in the cool pool. Eventually we made our way into town to walk around.
An Uber into and out of town was only $2usd. I used the same app that I use at home. On the way in, the driver even stopped and took a pic of us at the big color blocked Ensenada sign near the port.
Since Tony gave such a great recommendation the night before we entrusted him once again, he suggested the marina restaurant at Hotel Coral and Marina, it was very good.
Monday morning we walked around the marina, then stumbled onto a path along the ocean towards town. We took it for some time before turning back. There were several people jogging and taking walks too. Really pretty.
After a long breakfast we decided to get a couple more hours’ poolside before getting on the road. A quick stop at Puerto Nuevo to fill our bellies with lobster then onto the San Ysidro border with a Fast Pass. I was pleasantly surprised how close we were to the border before we got into line. However it took 3 hours 12 mins to get to the booth. The agent asked us “was the drive worth it?” and we responded “Yes, even with the wait, it was worth it”. But going forward we will strongly consider utilizing the Ocean Coral and Marina shuttle transport provided from/to San Diego (for a fee).
All in all a beautiful stay. My only regret, once again, was that we didn’t stay long enough.
Special thank you to Mr. Adalberto Villa for his professionalism and kindness. There is no hospitality on earth as amazing as Ocean Coral and Marina staff and management!
Loved my stay at Hotel Coral & Marina! Staff if super friendly, property is very clean, and the rooms are huge. All rooms appear to have a balcony and it seems like all have an ocean or marina view. I had a junior suite which had both. Was cool to sit on the balcony every evening with a bottle of wine that we got from the Guadalupe Valley. The property looks a little removed from Ensenada on the map but it’s very accessible to downtown...a $5, 5 minute cab ride. And while I didn’t try the food, it looked quite good and was told by people I befriended that it indeed was. On a final note, I left my portable Bose speaker behind in the room without knowing it. A day after I checked out, I received an email from the hotel telling me I left it behind and that they would be happy to send it to me. Pretty great. Looking forward to returning soon.
Loved everything about this hotel! They had a great indoor and outdoor pool with an out door grille/bar restaurant. My son enjoyed the playground area and it was a life saver every day I stayed at the hotel! The restaurant overlooking the marina has delicious food and yummy drinks. I will definitely be returning to this hotel!
I got a great deal on a jr suite with an ocean view. The hotel was amazing, staff were excellent and the restaurant was great. The kids loved the waterfall pool and jacuzzi. Only issue was the outside pool was not heated. The jr suite was big enough for a family of 4. Basically a one bedroom with a separate living area, great for the kids.
