How to Get There
Old hotel, revamped in quirky style. Quite well done. Loved the public areas and the music. Mattress was comfortable, but topper got too hot, which was a pity because the air con didn't cool much, even when it was around 2 degrees outside. In our 4th floor room, on the second night we could bear the bass line of a music loop from somewhere. It just kept repeating itself over and over with short breaks every five minutes - until about 3am.
Despite all this we enjoyed the hotel and the staff service (except for when the coffee took ages to appear.
The hotel was very hit and miss. As part of our luxury escapes deal we were advised we would receive a bottle of wine in room on arrival. I had also emailed the hotel previously advising we would be celebrating our anniversary. On check in we were not advised of any of our inclusions simply given our room key.
When we checked into the room there was no wine, we went back to reception to confirm we had a luxury escapes deal at this point they asked if we would like red or white wine and advised a bottle would be sent up along with our free drink vouchers.
Later a warm bottle of sparking wine was delivered with no bucket of ice or champagne glasses.
Breakfast was very busy and never fully stocked. You had to order eggs (fried or omelette) there was no fresh boiled eggs you could help yourself to and the scrambled eggs were made with instant egg not fresh eggs. The coffee was also awful and only option was little tea cups.
We have also been made feel special when we have notified hotels of birthdays/honeymoon/anniversary but this stay was very disappointing.
It is an old hotel that has been renovated. The rooms are "crowded", the television reception and wifi were intermittent. The service in the restaurant and bar areas was very average. It was disappointing to find out that the "club" discount did not apply to breakfast, only lunch and dinner. Also disappointing to have to pay extra for a "coffee". Still waiting for our itemised paid bill to be emailed to us. Location was not central to shopping or dining.
