How to Get There
By mistake, we booked the Palace (wanted to go to the Metropolis) - of course, was not possible to change that once we arrived. The Hotel is quite dated, the rooms rather small (ok, we had a lower category), the beds are way too soft, the breakfast rather modest and the stuff not really friendly. Not really the 5 star experience we were promised when checking in. The roof top of course is nice – but much better at the Metropolis.
This is a classic five star hotel. The location is excellent, near the Plaka and within walking distance of the Acropolis. It has a rooftop pool and restaurant/bar with a view of the Acropolis. Our room was rather small, but that is to be expected in big city hotels. The room was on the backside of the hotel (no view) but we did have a quiet night's sleep. In the morning you could hear the sounds of school children paying basketball at a nearby school.
The Electra Palace is a first-class hotel. We spent four nights here. .The location in the Plaka cannot be beat. The service is outstanding. The breakfast fare is exceptionally good and varied. (A note of warning--if you want smoked salmon with your breakfast, arrive early.) Our only small nitpick is that the w-ifi in our room was sporadic at best. We have reviewed the Rooftop Restaurant separately. We would recommend.
The ride to the hotel was through small narrow streets and were chock a block as the underground transport system had gone on strike that day. Booking in was easy, and the room we were offered was not to our liking and we returned to the front desk and to their credit they gave us a different choice which suited us, a plus to the hotel. All rooms whether they are basic or superior are very well appointed, good accessories and kept very clean and tidy throughout. The view from the pool on the 4th floor or restaurant just above it to the Acropolis is something that will stay with you for a long time after, well done in keeping it as a feature. Breakfast is included and for the amount available and different types catered for, means that everyone leaves for their day trips well fed and satisfied. I have not found anything (which is unusual) that would cause me to make a derogatory comment.
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. It is walking distance to the entire Athens experience from sightseeing to restaurants. The room and service were great. The rooftop bar gives an incredible view of the acropolis.
