Locations don’t get much peachier than this: The Ellis sits proud on the corner of Ellis and Peachtree Street, Atlanta’s main drag and the route for many of the city’s biggest parties, like the St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas parades. The 127-room historic landmark endeavors to be all things to all travelers, providing lures for execs (there’s 1,500 square feet of newly revamped meeting space), solo female travelers (a women’s-only floor), sensitive types (a hypoallergenic floor) and pet lovers. The guestrooms are streamlined and tasteful, featuring pillowtop beds and bathrooms equipped with luxe rainfall showers. At the lobby-level Terrace Bistro, residents can rub shoulders with locals and tuck into mod-Southern dishes such as buttermilk-fried pickled okra with Creole-style remoulade and Georgia trout with grilled lemon. And don't leave without trying the pecan pie and peach cobbler. There’s no spa, but guests can arrange in-room massages and treatments through a local provider.

Dance aficionados will want to catch a performance of the acclaimed Atlanta Ballet, particularly at the historic Fox Theater, an opulent, magical theater space on Peachtree Street that hosts performances of such classics as The Nutcracker. Spend a day wandering the halls of the High, the local name for the High Museum of Art, which houses 11,000 works by luminaries such as Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet, Ellsworth Kelly and Dorothea Lange. The museum’s exhibitions examining race in America are particularly noteworthy. If you’re a Scarlett O’Hara fan, frankly, you should make a beeline for the fabulous Tudor Revival Margaret Mitchell House, the onetime home of the Gone with the Wind author, now a museum. If baseball is more your speed, catch a game at Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves and considered one of the country’s best ballparks.
