Set between mountain and sea, this lush seafront resort in central Vietnam combines an off-the-grid location with the kind of upscale resort amenities (an award-winning spa, a Nick Faldo–designed golf course) you’d expect from the Banyan Tree brand. Pitched red-tile roofs and open courtyards dot this romantic retreat, a modern twist on the traditional garden houses found in nearby Hue. Earth tones are accented by splashes of purple, and latticework wall panels are inspired by the patterns that decorate Hue’s citadel walls.
Bed and Bath
All 56 rooms are set in lush private gardens, with infinity pools and secluded lounge areas. Inside, the designer digs feature intimately lit bedrooms with billowy curtains and bamboo floors with a striking botanical motif. A state-of-the-art in-room entertainment center provides an ambient soundtrack, making it easy to unwind. Large windows offer garden views from every angle (including from the shower, toilet and tub), and bathrooms are equipped with tropically scented products. Lagoon Pool Villas offer the best views (number 120 hogs the limelight), while the identikit beach villas (which are not exactly on the beach) offer superior gardens with a Jacuzzi and a shaded pavilion.
Breakfast is served at the poolside Watercourt restaurant, where culinary stations creak under bountiful displays of belt-loosening world class fare (sushi, pastries, chilled fizz). For spectacular sunsets and Thai fusion cuisine, dine at the mountain-edge Saffron, which has a wraparound veranda that overlooks the bay. Indulge body and soul with a muscle-melting massage at the spa, or tee off at the Nick Faldo–designed golf course; the decadently eclectic Thu Quan library bar is a top spot for a post-game G&T.
In the Area
The secluded beach location, languorous spa, epic eateries and endless program of on-site activities make it hard to leave this paradisiacal playground. Should wanderlust hit, the temples and tombs of Hue, the Champa ruins of My Son and the colonial shopping hot spot of Hoi An are just a daytrip away. Closer to home, explorers and adrenaline junkies can get their fix by exploring Lang Co by mountain bike, ATV or guided trek. Closer still: Hop aboard the hotel’s riverboat for cocktails at the neighboring Angsana Resort’s Upper Deck bar.
How to Get There
Absolutely stunning! Staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We loved the pool and view from our villa, but also has numerous activities within the resort. We did not want to leave and will definitely be back again!
This is the fourth time I’m visiting this resort. Brett the GM of this resort and his team were so welcoming. They were all veey efficient and friendly from my reservation to my check out from the resort. The local culture was seen in every corner of the place. I tried the spa services and I must say it’s worth each penny. The therapists were all very professional and the treatment villa’s environment is lovely and beautiful. Lastly if you want your trip to be special and meaningful I highly recommend you take part in their CSR program. Ms Tuong was so kind and helpful in making the arrangements for us to the orphanage. I look forward to my next visit again.
We’re a family of four (girls aged 12 and 9) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a three bedroom hilltop villa. The service was impeccable with our needs met. My spa experience was perfect. The therapist had a great touch and ensured I was happy with the music and temperature. The treatment was conducted in its own pavilion which was gorgeous. There is plenty to do including water sports and swimming. The food is of great quality and the gardens impressive. It’s a special place for a family holiday to remember.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Banyan Tree despite a few minor issues. The staff are delightful, helpful, well intentioned with a ready smile, it was they who made the stay exceptional. The villas are comfortable, the housekeeping is excellent and the grounds are verdant and very well maintained. There is a good choice of restaurants, they all have a different theme, are well staffed, the food was great quality and generally delicious. Curiously people seemed to eat very early, often we were the last to leave the restaurant at 9.30ish and if we went to the bar afterwards there were generally only one or two other tables occupied. We had some very early nights
The beach was barely used by any guests during our time there, perhaps because the sand was hot and there can be strong rip tides but it looks great, especially from the hillside villas!
The buggy service is necessary, it is quick and the fleet is large so there is rarely wait to get from A to B.
We stayed in a beachside villa, disappointingly ours was some distance from the sea, you could just see it through the foliage and to access it you had to walk through the only unkempt area of the whole hotel and when you got there it was a sun bed & staff free zone at our end. It didn't matter a great deal we just used the little villa pool more than perhaps we had anticipated.
This is a great place to just chill, it has a charming atmosphere. Our intention was to have a few days of quiet and tranquility and that is what it delivered
Wonderful hospitality, stunning views, and excellent foods. Everything was perfect. Thank you all the staffs maintaining the resort very splendid. The golf course is one of the most challenging. That might be another reason to come back soon!
