An eco sleep in the mountains of Koh Phangan with two pools and a private beach

The Lowdown

Set on 18 acres with a private beach, two pools and 19th-century King Rama V-inspired design, the 99-room Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa is a relaxed hideaway that caters to couples and families alike. With teakwood flooring, guestrooms have serious eco-friendly cred, and feature expansive windows and a balcony or terrace with uninterrupted sea views. Some suites and villas have private pools. Two restaurants, including the standout Chantara (serving authentic Thai al fresco) and the beachfront By The Sea bar offer plenty of choices at meal time. By day, a 13,000-square-foot freeform pool, 30-foot manmade waterfall and a selection of kayaks, canoes and watersports amenities will keep you active, while the open-air Ayurvana Spa will help you unwind.

In the Area

A 30-minute speedboat transfer from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan is an amalgam of Thai culture and natural attractions. Hit up Thong Nai Pan Beach, just a distance from the resort, for local craft and souvenir shopping, or take to the water by kayak or canoe for a self-guided tour of the area shoreline. Don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear or trade it in with a local PADI dive outfitter and check out Ang Thong National Marine Park, Sail Rock or Chumphon Pinnacle, among the top-rated dive sites in Thailand.

Beautiful luxury hotel with outstanding scenery

We spent 4 nights in the luxurious Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort and Spa where we had a Sea View Villa with pool. It was definitely a 5-star experience and we were more than happy with the outstanding service, great food and little details which we noticed everywhere in the Resort.
Also, we found out that the cleaning service was extremely well-trained and very quick when it came to preparing the rooms.
The beach has white sand and I can recommend to enjoy a sundowner in the evening.
I would definitely come back and stay at Santhiya Koh Phangan again. Highly-recommended!

Not much to say - it's excellent all around

Get a pool-villa, and just enjoy. Period.
I can hardly find negative points to mention, it's all good.
Villas are spacious and clean, pool is great and huge, location good, breakfast fantastic, service professional and good, the resort impeccably clean and beautiful.
When coming from/to Samui, ask for their speed boat transfer. About the same price as ferry+land transfer, and so much more comfortable/fast! Besides, you get to see some great views of Phangan's beautiful cost while traveling.

The things some people might find off-putting: I heard an older man complain about all the stairs (maybe he should have tried putting out his cigarette while walking DOWN the stairs......). We mostly walked, but there are shuttle cars at your disposal if you don't feel like walking the admitted sometimes lengthy, hilly distances between e.g. pool and your villa.
Seaview: well, you see the sea, but it's not like it's a full panorama, at least it wasn't from our villa. Then again: the view of the cost-line and hills is spectacular either way.
And get some mosquito spray as the bathroom is outdoors. You can turn on the fan there to avoid getting bitten, but dusk/dawn and outdoor, when combined, spell trouble :)

That's it for "negatives". All else: fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there with our toddler. There is also a kid's pool and the different areas of the pool vary in depth, so it's got something for everyone.
Also: i think the position is much nicer than that of the other resorts along that beach. It just seems more natural, beautiful, secluded. It has it's own small beach right next to the pool area. Nice, nice. All of it, just plain nice and deeply relaxing.

The place is quite beautiful, especially the garden, but we can see It is a bit old. Our Villa Hideaway seems a bit creepy, with no view.
Beside that the location is a bit out of nowhere. Definitely prefer and recommend to choose the west coast of Koh Phangan.

Our stay

We spent 2 nights at this resort. The room was nice and clean. We stayed in room 429 and the view over the trees to the beach in a distance was pretty. From the balcony towards the left was the sea. From this room it had a jungle feel to it I thought. There were bettles that buzzed away in the trees every now and then. They would just stop and start up again after sometimes. Took me a little while to get use to it. One thing I was not prepared for was that this resort is on a side of mountain. So from reception we got a hotel taxi ( they are available round the clock by the reception) and they drive you up to your room if you want or if youre in your room you could just ring reception and they send the hotel taxi up to pick you. I think it can be a bitof a hassel if you came all the way down to the pool by the beach and forgot something in your room (just try not to forget anything!)
This was the only downside for me.

The hotel and the facilities on site is beautifully done up. The Bangkok night show on Thursday night was entertaining and the Asia Band (hope I have name correct) were brilliant. The guy playing the instrument at the Bangkok night was up bright and early for work the next morning playing the instrument on Friday morning breakfast. His very talented. There was also a fire show and beautiful girls dancing.

Best for couples and families...

Synthiya is a lovely place. The villa with the private swimming pool is a unique and comfort stuff..

The outdoor tub and pool also served us nicely in rainy days .. we were sitting down the hot tub with the view and had a lot of fun.

The pool and the beach were so nice and peaceful.
We had an entertainment program by the hotel every day during the dinner and breakfast time and we also cross by walk to the next beach to the small town a walk of 13 min. If we wanted to buy something or eat someting or just change the atmosphere.

Overall this hotel is great for couples and families. .. I do recommend it to everyone. The service, food, villa, entertainment. all was perfect. Thank you Synthiya team for a beautiful Vacation.
