How to Get There
We loved our stay at The Fortress. The welcome drink and cool towel were much appreciated at check in. We had a huge room with views of the ocean. The staff were friendly and super helpful. The food was delicious. This is a great place to relax
We recently spent three nights here at the end of our Sri Lankan trip. I chose it as there are only 50ish rooms - don't like large hotels. This size made for an intimate feel and exceptional service. Nothing was too much trouble. I liked that the check-in was done in the room, much more relaxing after a long journey from the tea country. Food was wonderful - most expensive meals of our stay in Sri Lanka but still much cheaper than UK. The most expensive buffet was the Seafood for £15 each to include all you could eat of Oysters, Lobster, Sushi etc etc and the desserts were awesome! The buffets were varied and so extensive that there was something to suit everyone.
Our Ocean room was wonderful - huge bathroom, lovely toiletries, great bed and stupendous views of the Indian ocean! Huge pool with plenty of sunbeds overlooking the waves of the ocean.
It was good to see single people and less able people staying. I would guess that is due to the service as I could see less able people being collected from the room and accompanied into the restaurant. Lots of return guests which testify to the excellence of this lovely hotel
Want to go back!
My husband and I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights with a room on the second level with sea view - beautiful view over the pool and falling asleep to the waves at night was a dream, big rooms with open plan out to the balcony. When we first arrived we got a very dirty room - but they changed us quickly the day after with a bottle of wine waiting in the room!
The restaurants are ok - food tasty and service is ok they are very eager to take your plate before you finish they are pulling your plate away..... or will hoover over you until you are done. We decided to take the tapinjaki dinner one night to splurge a little - it was not worth it -it was done in a minute and NO show -just a guy making dinner on a hot plate and you get the seafood and the meat- when you are looking for dessert- they want to offer you rice ?
Later on we revived ice cream - that costed us 120euro?Dont do it total scam !!!!
Dont take transport outside the hotel - total scam - hotel is in on it and want to charge 20usd to go to the fort !Font pay more then 400-500 each way !!!!
The tiles in the pool are falling off and rooms need updating - ok stay ..air con is super noisy and no water pressure Dont get to exited and don’t get your hopes up!!
This was the 5th stop on our tour - basically to relax. When we arrived, the tall front walls and entrance gates resembled a fortress. Beyond was a magnificent veranda and the sea! Reception staff were very attentive and greeted us while our room was readied. The room was on the ground floor, large, comfortable and included a plunge pool.
Food options were many, including buffet options. The breakfast buffet was excellent, including Sri Lankan food.
A lovely place to stay and relax. We will definitely stay there again.
We stayed here for 5 nights during our honeymoon exploring Sri Lanka. Its location meant exploring nearby beaches and Galle was easy. The staff were the friendliest we came across especially the pool guys and we especially enjoyed our complimentary yoga session with the resident teacher.
