The Lowdown

What better way to ease you into the wild beauty of Sri Lanka than with a stay at a luxurious beach resort? Parked on the mellow eastern coast, Amaya Beach, which holds a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, is a sun-drenched haven ideal for a long getaway from the city.
Before you venture out to the colourful reefs of the Indian Ocean, find your sea legs with a bevy of watersports activties in the warm, shallow waters of Passikudah Bay. Go canoeing and experience the birdlife of Sri Lanka or take a trip to the national parks the country is famous for. Maduru Oya National Park offers a cultural experience with its array of ancient religious sites, while Wasgamuwa National Park is home to herds of elephants and an abundance of creatures in the safari. All this can be arranged with the help of the resort.
But if relaxation is the order of the day, head to the spa for a healing and restorative massage or wellness treatment. The expansive guest rooms are equally relaxing, with the cool sea breeze wafting in from the balcony – and who doesn’t love a room with a view?

Worst Resort Experience
Reviewed 6 days ago

Amaya Beach Resort Passikudah has nice meals, good pool, entertainment games (outdoor badminton, chess, carom, billiards, beach volleyball). However, I got the worst room. Our air conditioning was not properly working. First day we complaint five times and the repair, but again ac malfunctioned. We had to stay in the room while they are doing experiments to AC. Room number 4103. Please repair this and don't do these to anybody.

Poor food/beach; great water sports
Reviewed 1 week ago

While Amaya beach has spacious rooms with great amenities, sadly the rest of the experience leaves a lot to be desired.

The swimming pool while adequate har no rules barring people jumping in with their clothes. The famous white sandy beaches of the east coast cannot be enjoyed due to the poorly kept beach by the hotel. There are tons of sharp dead corals by the shore, unlike the other hotels in the area which keep their beaches very clean and soft. Walking barefoot by the beach is not something you will enjoy.

Food is below average. We tried the buffet, room service, al a carte, the bar, and every single time we left feeling disappointed. Not a single dish pops to mind, and if given the choice, I would not eat here again. The rice was undercooked, their meat was tough and rubbery, the desert lacked flavor, their spaghetti had tough meat lacking in flavor and they seemed stingy on the sauce, the pad Thai was one of the worst we have ever eaten and even their French fries were too salty.

Also, when I asked for complimentary water on my last day, I was told since I am checking out they do not give any complimentary water, which has never been the case for me in any other hotel - as most try to accommodate their guests.

What I liked about the place was that they have a a good selection of water sports which are well priced and a lot of fun. They also gave us a free upgrade from the deluxe room to a premium deluxe which we did appreciate.

Overall, while I did like my room, I doubt I will come back. My advise would be to go to another hotel with a softer beach and better food to fully appreciate the east coast.

Family visit on june 2018

We visited there in early June . We got 40 percent offer from Sampath credit card. We took 3 triple and one double room. We took reservation early from world trade center east tower office.
We arrived bit late. Now polonnaruwa town is getting road renervation.
Hotel welcome is good. Big , calm lobby at entrance.
Room- we booked Superior room s with entitled to upgrade . But we got Superior room. It's spacious.
Minibar- soft drinks available but have to pay. Better official s reconsider that decision.
Direct access to beach. Very calm quiet clean, nice ambience...
Dinner- due to small number of visitors we got less spread monotonous buffet.
Restaurant is "Cafe Reef".
Breakfast- superb. Very good spread. Sausages, woffel and omlets live stations are there.

Got baby meals for kid with very easy. Honestly the staff members in restaurant is very supportive.

Room service- excellent. I called twice them for reset the ac and sliding door issue. They came and solve the issue within minutes. Many thanks for the maintenance officer .. really appreciate your service.
Room charges- full board triple- 19 500
F/b double 17500

Amazing hotel in great location

Stayed at the Amaya Beach resort for 3 nights.
Efficient check in and amazing room. All the necessary amenities provided in room.
Service is impeccable throughout from reception to restaurant / bar to pool to cleaning staff

The spa is truly spectacular and I strongly recommend having at least one treatment. I went for 2 separate packages which were both amazing.

The beach sand is abit course with bits of coral. However if you walk 5 minutes to the left you have the most amazingly soft white powdery sand and very calm warm water.

We had a minor issue with our wardrobe as a defective door meant it could not close. The doors were replaced within 24 hours which is a testament to the amazing service provided.

I will strongly recommend.
