How to Get There
We stayed at Velassaru during our Eid Break from 4-9 June 2019. We had actually booked our stay at Kurumba Maldives (through Maldives Travel). We checked into our deluxe Villa at Kurumba and were just putting out 10 month old son to sleep after a 10 hour journey to get there when we got a call from the Resort Manager (Rita) that she would like to speak to me but not on the phone. My heart sank as I thought my travel Agent did not pay for the hotel. Turns out that they gave us an option to stay in the current room or be upgraded to a Water Villa at Velassaru Maldives. We happily accepted the Water Villa option and were trasfered to the other resort within the hour.
It started to rain as soon as we left the airport to transfer to Velassaru and due to the boat being small and the sea being extremely rough, we turned back to the airport to wait for the rain to settle before we were transferred.
As soon as we arrived at Velassaru we were met at the Jetty by the staff with one member of the resort team completely dedicated to each party for checkin procedures. Checkin was extremely smooth and our room was ready and we were immediately shifted to our Water Villa. Although this was my second trip to the maldives, it was the first time staying in the water villa and it was an experience to remember.
The room was huge and in immaculate condition with direct access from the villa to the sea. Really enjoyed dipping in the sea every morning when I got up. Since we were travelling with my 10 month old son, every single person of the Velassaru Staff was extremely friendly and would come play with him and pick him up whenever we went for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner. We had informed the chef for purees for him only on the first day and without fail he would send fresh purees for Lunch and in the evening for him which he thoroughly enjoyed.
The Spa is over the water and is amazing. Food was very good. We could snorkel right at our Villa which was amazing as well.
I just wanted to share how incredibly amazing our stay was at velassaru. From when I and my partner arrived on Monday 3rd June and left on Saturday 8th. From the minute we arrived at the airport, staff were there waiting for us to escort us to the speedboat. The transfer was faultless.
From then on, every single member of staff whether it be reception, waiting staff, cleaners, chefs or grounds men made us feel immediately welcome. All staff go out of their way to be polite, friendly helpful and make your stay as pleasant as possible, nothing was ever too much trouble. The resort is beautiful, everywhere is immaculately cleaned, in particular the rooms and the restaurants and food outstanding. The grounds are constantly raked and staff work so hard to keep the island looking beautiful.
I would particularly like to mention Shiruan, who served us at breakfast and in chill bar, he is a genuinely lovely young man who went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He booked us restaurants, getting us the best table and gave us a lovely card and photo as a souvenir on our last night. He is a credit to velassaru!
Also Omary, sorry if the spelling is wrong, also from Chill Bar, his lovely smile and charming personality made going to chill bar a joy. I still miss seeing his lovely smile every day! In fact all staff are chill bar are outstanding.
There was another man who I believe is manager of chill bar and
Etasien whose name I can’t remember who also went out of his way to make out stay memorable. He served us twice when we ate at Etasien. His manner and genuine ability to want to make sure his guests stay is amazing, is a great quality. Again another waiter who served us at Sands on Tuesday evening, sorry to not remember his name, but he kept popping up to see us all over the island to say “hi”and make sure our stay was enjoyable. He also kindly sorted out a table for us at Etasien on our last night, where the food is truly outstanding. In fact all the chefs there cook amazing food.
I would also like to mention the young men at the water sports centre, Irfan, Aheez and Mode who were lovely, happy cheerful people who went out of their way to sort out our water sports, again they are happy to do anything to help make your stay the best possible. Thank you also for looking after us when we fell off our jet ski!!
One of the things that really came across to us is how much pride all staff take in their work, they seemed genuinely proud to work at velassaru, wanting each guest to have the best time and spoke highly of how well they are treated by management and how much they enjoyed working there, whilst enjoying the team stuff they do in their spare time such as football. In order to have such amazing, dedicated staff, then managers must do an incredible job in inspiring their staff to strive to give their guests the best holiday. Your amazing staff must be led and well managed by an inspirational management team.
I would like to thank each and everyone who made our holiday at velassaru the most amazing holiday ever. It has always been my dream to come to the Maldives and it totally exceeded my expectations. We loved your island and the Maldivian people are the most kind, hospitable, friendly people I have ever come across. The only bad thing about the whole holiday was having to leave! We would love to return one day and see you all!
Beyond our expectations, a real paradise island.
The 25 minute speedboat to the Island was great fun.
From the moment we arrived till the moment we left, the staff treated us so well, we felt that they all really wanted to make our stay special and memorable.
The beach villa we stayed in was simply perfect and the sea and snorkelling was amazing.
The food choices in the restaurants was fantastic as was the service with an extensive drinks menu.
The spa was just so wonderful and such a relaxing, calm place.
We have been fortunate to stay in luxury hotels in St. Lucia, Australia and Mexico but this resort really was 1st class and highly recommend to anyone for that special occasion or just because you want a perfect holiday.
You even get your own flip flops and beach bag too
Best place ever, from landing in Male to pick up and boat transfer, it all just works, greeted by the beautiful staff for the 30 minute boat ride to the island and greeted then on arrival all staff in white uniform and in height order (not sure if that planned or not) ha ha! We have had the most relaxing time ever, staff 10+, everyone so friendly, morning boat cruise on a bean bag so relaxing, morning sun on your body, try the yoga on the beach at sunset-fabulous, food amazing. Our accommodation every little detail thought of. One small gripe if I had to US$88 per person for the buffet, plus drinks, we felt very overpriced, better going to the many other restaurants on offer. Oh and you must try the dayspa.
We stayed here in early June for our 1st wedding anniversary. With it being out of season we were super lucky with the weather which of course helped make our trip, but regardless, Velassaru was so beautiful and relaxing and we would definitely recommend it to anyone and we already want to go back!!!
The resort itself is beautiful and again we were really lucky with how busy it was as often we felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves! The food was delicious and the service outstanding!
We split our time between two room types - the bungalow and the water bungalow with pool. Both rooms were really well equipped and stunning, but the water bungalow was extra special and I would love to go back and stay in it again!!!
I visited the spa twice for prenatal massages and would seriously recommend to anyone, it is a stunning venue - and make sure you take some time to sit outside after and enjoy more beautiful views! My husband did a few dives through the dive centre as well as a course and he was impressed by the professionalism as well as the variety of fish etc that he saw. We were also lucky enough to see a whole load of dolphins when we went out on a dolphin cruise one evening!
Thank you for making our holiday so special Velassaru - we will be sure to return!!!
