Fabulous Velassaru
Reviewed 1 day ago

We have just returned from an 8 night stay in a deluxe villa at Velassaru-Feb 2019. We had a wonderful time and the hotel was outstanding. Food at all restaurants was brilliant including the buffet which always had a large variety. The staff were delightful and extremely friendly. Would highly recommend the Velassaru Indulgence package as it is superb value. This was our first trip to the Maldives and we were blown away by its beauty. We will definitely be returning to Velassaru.

Loved It!

A little late in writing this as my wife and I spent 10 nights at Velassaru at the end of October 2018 but the resort deserves a positive review regardless of how late. This was our 4th Maldivian Island and it was another great experience.
We stayed in a pool villa which was simply superb. Great bedroom, big comfy bed and all the necessary facilities. The bathroom was stunning. Decking and pool were gorgeous with the pool cleaned daily and then just a simple stroll of a few yards directly on to the beach. Bounty advert beauty for those old enough to remember that.
The island itself is beautiful, like they all are to be honest, but it's the staff and restaurants that stand out here. We'd booked all inclusive, which I'd recommend, so we spent every night in one of the 3 a la carte restaurants, so did not visit the main buffet restaurant in the evening. Each was magnificent and unique in their own way. One evening we happened to mention to one of the restaurant staff that we were huge Sri Lankan curry fans following a previous visit there. The next evening, the Head Chef, who was Sri Lankan, laid on a special curry night for us with 4 separate Sri Lankan curries. just simply amazing service.
It's been said many times before that the staff make this island and all I can do is echo that. Too many to list and it would be unfair to single out individuals at the expense of others, we did not meet a single team member that we wouldn't praise. A special mention to the Spa too where we had a 3 hours couples treatment that was one of the best we have ever had, brilliant.
The only downside to our holiday was the number of small children. We generally look for adult only or friendly resorts. Velassaru isn't this but does not have a kids club so we took a gamble given the lovely and quick speedboat journey to the island, another important criteria for us. Not Velassaru's fault, it was our gamble, but we didn't use the main pool and steered clear of the main buffet because there were a lot more kids than we bargained for.
We'd highly recommend Velassaru and will return but try to pick our timing.

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at this beautiful resort The hotel staff, the rooms, the restaurants were all great - we had no complaints whatsoever. I am not sure why there is a review on here stating too expensive, surely you know the price before you book?! We would recommend this resort absolutely! Beautifully clean and cared for resort - thank you!

A wonderful resort with very well-equipped villas

I chose this resort because it was near enough to the airport (the transfer takes just 25 minutes by boat). The resort representative met us at the airport and led us to the boat. Everything was very
quickly and without any problems.
The resort itself is very beautiful arramged, very clean with a lot of greens all around….
The beach villas have all the necessary comfort…( the coffe machine was a great plus for me.. and the good quality toiletries)
The only thing that doesn~t honor such a resort ..are the shabby or sometimes even broke….( as was mine) sundebs mattresses at the beach.
At the main pool doesn't happen such a thing… but I didn't go to the maldives to stay at the swimming pool…. I prefer to stay at the beach.
So…the quality of the sun beds and there mattresses from the beach leaves a lot of room to improvement. For the price we have paid we have expected that they would be a much better quality.
Also the variety of food should be improved.Several kinds of fresh fish would be appreciated, I am very sure.
I have noticed that each restaurant menu contains the same kinds of the basis products ( beef, lamb and Chiken) on which each add another kind of sauce or a different kind of presentation, but the base is almost the same .
I have appreciated the lamb loin and home made guacamole from Ethesian, the chicken from Sand,
sashimi from Tepanyaki and my son preferred to eat pizza from Turquoise.
Regardind the spa I can say that all services there are very good. I can mention Alma – the therapist from Philippines which was very good.
To conclude it is a beautifully landscaped resort with well-equipped rooms but there is still room for improvement.

Beautiful Island but too expensive

We had a short 4 night break in a water bungalow.
Bungalow was very clean but outlook only average with the island where all the rubbish is incinerated in view and not the prettiest sight you will ever encounter.
Restaurants were good and as we did the all inclusive (a must for any island stay in the Maldives as everything and I mean everything is so expensive) we only had to add supplements to a few items on the menus.
The Chill Bar was staffed by a great group of lads that made the stay enjoyable with their humour / banter and good service.
Easy island to walk around to vary the sunbathing each day.
Charged for trips continued the theme of expensive as did the photography packages should you choose to buy.
I think its a case of been there and done that now and won't return as there are so many more places to see in the world.
Enjoyable time but just that little bit disappointed for the price.
