The beaches in this resort are simply amazing, then again it is the Maldives, all beaches are amazing. We stayed there in late November and the hotel seemed to be at half capacity, so the beach was empty most of the time, which is great. The villas are big, but definitely feel and look dated. We had issues with the TV (only 1 channel worked) and had to move to the other end of the island to get their updated TV system. Food is average and they only have 1 type of beer, which was awful. I guess this place is an OK value for the money and being on these beautiful beaches makes up for the down points of the resort.

Stayed 2 nights in a beautiful Reserve Beach Bungalow (#307) which is situated in the second row from the beach. Gives a lot of privacy to the other rooms. Detached. Open air bathroom. Spacious bedroom. They offer 10 different room types on the island but they are all very similar.
I would rate the rooms on 4.5* level.

Public area is fantastic. Nice pool with integrated kids pool plus outstanding infinity pool on the sunset side.
1 buffet restaurant which is the only one included in both mealplans (FB+, AI). 2 small a la carte restaurants with extra charge. Reasonable prices for drinks and spa. Would rate the public area at 5* entry level.

I’m not the person who is writing comments about hotels or my holidays as I used to travel a lot and just love to enjoy and to don’t complain. However this experience was awful!!!
Great beach, spacious villas and attentive room boy ABDULLA Zuhury (sorry for wrong spelling). This is all positive moments from hotel.
From the moment we gave call to reception on first day, holidays started to be ruin. First of all, it was strange that no Room Service at hotel and reception is taking order for food and drinks. Let it be...We gave order and were waiting at the room. After 40 minutes (standard time for delivering of food) we gave call to reception to check where is our order, for what reception girl answered that they are not delivering drinks and food to the room. Question WHY not and why they took order ? As all guests in this hotel in All inclusive package and they are allowed to eat and drink in particular outlets only. But I was traveling not with All inclusive package. So unprofessional staff from reception didn’t border herself to check in system on which package we are and didn’t give call even to say that they are not serving food and drinks in the villa. Second day, morning breakfast time we gave order to the room again, which disappointed me again. I asked for eggs Benedict but instead of ham with salmon. At the end they delivered plate with salmon only as they don’t have eggs Benedict. But no one called me and didn’t say to me about that, so I could ask something else. Whatever...next day we went for breakfast buffet to see how is it. Didn’t impressed at all.
This list can be longer as they had delayed with orderes in restaurants as well and we were waiting for drinks for one and half an hour, which is unbelievable!!!

Room :large , room boy forgets towels so you don’t have any called resepshion for towels as we are about to have a shower, call back 2 hours later to be told should i call the landary? Had to call for tea bags as they were not replaced {small things}
Spa: as we were booking a treatment the receptionist told a guest “ cant you see I’m talking wait over ther” we never went back.
Food: for breakfast all the juice’s are from syrups not fresh, wife is a vegetarian nothing of the main food is marked up very poor.
Do not come here thinking you will receive 5 star service may be 4, we travel to the Maldives every year and this sit’s between 3-4 star .
Yes all the above are small things but it’s them that you remember.
We are still here and some staff are helpful.

Beautiful island resort

I would love to have given this place 5 stars. There is so much to compliment them for and the island itself is absolutely beautiful. But one or two things let them down.

So let me start with the excellent things first: The welcome and reception was as we expected, friendly, helpful and succinct. After travelling for more than 20 hours to get there we were tired so we didn't need a walk through and this was picked up and thoughtfully suggested we could ask questions later if we needed further help. The gym, tennis courts and squash facilities looked fine, but we are not really sporty people so wouldn't want to say further. The 5* PADI diving centre seemed very efficient, the Jet Ski was great fun and the Spa, while pricey, was good enough to tempt us back for second helpings.

The villa was large and comfortable and the bed was excellent for us for a good night's sleep. We enjoyed 8 days of intense relaxation in a quiet idyllic location and were very grateful for it.

So why not 5 stars for the review? A few quite minor niggles. First the water pressure in our room wasn't great. This meant that the shower was a bit of a dribble on some days and the outside shower pretty much unusable. Since this is one of the selling points it's a little strange that there was no explanation given when I raised it, nor was there any apparent attempt to fix it or feed back to me after I had reported it. One of the curtains in the room was broken and the door curtain did not have enough fabric to meet in the middle - a fairly basic requirement, but again nothing that a hair clip couldn't fix.

Others seem to have commented on the food. Mass catering at an 'all inclusive' level is always a bit dodgy. It was no worse or better than other places we have visited that were comparable in Cuba or Mauritius, but if you area foodie you will likely be a little disappointed. There was a great pasta/noodle chef though who was incredibly friendly and very good indeed at customer relations quite apart from making the best noodle stir fry I have had in a long while! The two a la carte restaurants were not in use throughout our stay, possibly because the pricing was on the high side and the difference in food quality not that great from those who did chose to use them that we spoke to.

The biggest issue for us was again not unique to Kihaa: smokers at meal times. True to current practice they were not permitted into the restaurant to smoke, but since the whole restaurant was essentially open air, those who chose to indulge in this disgusting habit simply allowed their fumes to blow in to the rest of the dining area and spoil our meal. The staff were very understanding when we moved tables mid-meal and offered to find us other tables on subsequent visits far away from would-be smokers, but I fail to see why the majority have to be inconvenienced by the very small minority. I think this is a hotel policy that needs reviewing as the design of the restaurant does not lend itself to outside smoking areas.

And finally, the 'All inclusive' part of the package. I think we all realise that 'all-inclusive' doesn't actually mean that. The words imply everything is included in the price, but the reality is never that. But what was odd was that even the most basic coffee, like an espresso or a latte, was not on the all inclusive list. Hardly an huge concession to make I would have thought. Cocktails were made with generic spirits but were good nonetheless. My final gripe, and it sounds like I had a lot of them, but I did not, was the total absence of beer/lager for our entire stay. Non-alcoholic lager was available, but no-one seemed quite able to say why there wasn't any or when another shipment would arrive! Rumour had it that it was a licencing issue between the resort, the government and the supplier and in the absence of an official explanation we will have to go with that. But if you really like and ice cold lager while lying on the beach is will be a frustration to you.

In isolation these are very minor issues. But they are exactly the sort of thing that makes a 5* experience just that - 5 Star. And so this fell a little way short.

But having said all that do not be discouraged from going to Kihaa. It was beautiful, relaxing, good value, run by friendly staff who went out of their way to look after you, and had great amenities.

Would we go back? Absolutely!
