Tropical retreat wreathed by talcum-fine beaches with luxe overwater villas, an on-site dive center and an organic spa

The Look

Constance Halaveli epitomizes the tropical island vacation. A private expanse of beach studded with oversize bean bags? Check. An on-site PADI dive center and easy access to shipwrecks, caves and coral reefs teeming with whale sharks and manta rays? Double check. There’s a heavy focus on the alfresco, with outdoor dining and villas that have wooden balconies with steps that descend straight into the ocean. It’s a magnet for the honeymoon crowd, to be sure, but this upscale resort also caters to travelers with tots in tow.

Bed and Bath

The resort’s 86 villas, whose design is inspired by traditional dhoni fishing boats, combine chic tropical decor and cutting-edge technology: iPods, mini iMacs, free WiFi and plasma televisions. Choose from Water Villas, from which you can peer into the crystal-clear water over your morning cuppa; standard Beach Villas, which have private plunge pools; and, for larger groups who need more elbow room, Family Beach Villas or Double Story Beach Villas.

The resort has an overwater spa, where the treatments make use of handcrafted Ila, Valmont and signature Spa de Constance products; and a fitness center and tennis courts where type A vacationers can squeeze in their daily workout. There’s a pool, of course, and three restaurants to choose from. Jahaz offers a full buffet spread, while the beachside grill, Meeru, makes it possible to have your sundowner with your toes in the sand. The last, the specialty Asian-inspired restaurant Jing, sits on stilts above the lagoon and has one of the most comprehensive wine cellars in the Indian Ocean.

Incredible place but certain parts of the experience not good enough for the price
Reviewed 1 day ago

We had an amazing time (most of the time) and it is a truly unique place. We loved how beautiful the island is, how immaculately it is kept and the huge water villas, however given the price point some things do let the resort down. We paid more than $7000 including taxes and the seaplane transfer for half board for 5 nights (not including flights). The Maldives is very expensive and it's not necessarily out of line with competitors but for this price absolute excellence must be delivered and whilst in many ways the resort meets this in some ways it falls very short.

We have based this review taking into account how expensive it is, for out and out experience it is clearly 'Excellent'. I personally could not justify spending this much money to return given the issues (hence the ‘Average’ rating) and will look elsewhere for our next stay but most people after a Maldives water villa experience would probably have a great time here I believe.

Island itself is immaculate and incredibly beautiful, a huge amount of time clearly goes into maintaining it this way which we only came to really realise and appreciate toward the end of our stay (staff picking up any sea debris / shells across the whole island every morning and raking all of the sand, removing any rubbish whatsoever from the sea & coral - it is massive job that is very commendable)
Villas are great, very luxurious and huge with direct sea access and private plunge pool. Like the island they are kept immaculately
Some of the food is exceptional, but you do have to choose carefully - the Jing restaurant is excellent and the grill is pretty decent too
Management clearly aim for excellence and want you to have a great stay - we had some issues (below) and the manager in charge of F&B was very impressive in doing his very best to right this
Staff are very friendly, in particular the back of house staff are exceptional, front of house are mixed (some very good others really fall very short)

Resort are a bit 'cheap' and cut corners in areas they really don't have to and some things are just not in line with price point- some of the front office staff are nowhere near the level they should be, toiletries are basic, giving a welcome bottle of prosecco - champagne is not a lot of money for a resort to buy wholesale, it comes across as very cheap to give guests who are paying so much money an unpleasant bottle of prosecco
Food - the buffet restaurant is very poor for this standard of resort and room service was not good at all
Front of house staff - far too many are not trained to the appropriate standard with very, very bad English. Having to ask for things multiple times, waiting 10m+ from seating with no one coming to you despite staff standing around, not being able to explain menu due to poor English (just as one example not knowing difference between a cold chicken dish and raw chicken), asking reception for some scissors for a bandage and receiving an iron, requesting paracetamol and reception trying to book parasailing, I could go on (it was very bad and created some awkward situations with bills etc)
It is extremely expensive and the price of doing anything additional is astronomic. I think they offer too many things that most guests don't do or use so have to charge far too much to cover the costs

All in all we thought the place was great and we really enjoyed most of our time there, but it wasn't as perfect as it should have been for what we were paying. The resort really must to do more to make sure every single member of staff that is front of house is excellent and has good English. I stay in a huge number of hotels around the world mainly for business but also often pleasure and the poor quality language skills of front of house staff is some of the worst I have ever come across (and in the most expensive resort I have stayed in). More investment has to be made to train staff or higher salaries paid to attract staff of the appropriate level with good English as it is absolutely unacceptable for guests to experience this here. Hope that the hotel takes on board our comments as it could be absolutely perfect.

Arrived to be greeted by the staff . All very nice.
Nothing to much trouble.
But somethings didn’t run smoothly 😠.
I don’t think the management where that interested.
As the deputy was leaving and the main man away.
The afternoon party 🎉 was typical had to ask for the canapés😠
Missed the little touch’s around the pool. Only once with the fruit sticks. Then nought!
Whilst on the food this was a huge disappointment!
Steaks poor
Buffet s 🥴
A bit motorway standard !
The place lacked some TLc
The pool was failing holes in the concrete!
Not smooth
Just small points that made the holiday average.
Certainly not value for money
Very expensive

Wonderful stay at Constance Halaveli
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed at Constance Halaveli for nine nights for our honeymoon. We had previously visited Constance Moofushi (Maldives) and Constance Prince Maurice (Mauritius) and we were definitely delighted with our decision to come back.

We really find the the service offered by the Constance group really sets them apart from other resorts. The staff do a wonderful job across all aspects of the resort and there is such effort put into getting to know you by name and getting to learn your preferences of food, drink, activity and more.

The overwater villas are so spacious - much larger at Halaveli than Moofushi. You have a very big bedroom and living room space coupled with a large bathroom that open out onto the deck and over the ocean. The infinity pool is a nice touch and it is a good alternative if you want to get out of the saltwater. The filled minibar has more than enough in the way of snacks and treats and you will no doubt be lucky enough to receive treats of fresh fruit, juices and more. Our housekeeper Abdulla did a brilliant job of looking after us during our stay and the state of the villa was always pristine; not to mention some exceptional towel art.

We took the all inclusive crystal package at both Moofushi and Halaveli as we find it easier than having to consider spend while you're there. It makes things so much simpler than having to contemplate spend when you're on holiday to relax and enjoy yourself. The food is fabulous and you have so much choice. We were quite happy to go to Jahaz (buffet) most evenings as the selection there was amazing and the change of theme every night made it feel like it was a different restaurant. Meeru was lovely for the grill and beach setting and Jing to change it up in terms of location on the pier, but Jahaz suited us just fine. Once again the team really made eating and drinking such an experience. From Rika and Yui who welcomed us with a smile each day, Thowbic for his amazing eggs and fabulous Indian cuisine, to Gasim and Sharif who catered for everything we could have asked for. It was good being there for nine nights as you really got to have time to chat to the team and we really learned a lot more about the Maldives through our conversations with Sharif who was so enthusiastic and friendly.

The sommeliers are superb and we got better service there than we do in Michelin star restaurants. Rimal was able to pair our wines each day (sometimes lunch and dinner!) and offered us a lot of variety over our stay. He even kept aside our favourite dessert wines - certainly much appreciated! You have so much choice at all of the bars at well so you won't be disappointed.

There are a number of activities you can get involved in depending on how much you want to exert yourselves. The spa was awesome with its location on the pier. Angel and the team are super welcoming and the couple's package of body scrub, massage and facial were decent value, not to mention super relaxing. Like Moofushi, the massage beds are over glass tiles meaning you can watch the sea and fish underneath...that is if you haven't fallen off to sleep from the treatment!

The dive centre has lots of options available. We took up a number of the snorkeling trips from the turtle adventure with Jemma, snorkeling extravaganza with Kaori to the manta ray excursion with Falley. We thought seeing the sharks, turtles and tropical fish were brilliant but this really paled in comparison with swimming with the mantas. Falley was our guide on this trip and he and the crew did a great job of finding the mantas for us to swim alongside. They were very inquisitive and when we just floated upright, they swam right up to us only centimetres from our faces. Given their size, they were an amazing site to behold. Waqas from the Dive Centre will be able to give you lots of suggestions of what to do there but we would strongly recommend the manta ray excursion. My husband spent many an hour pottering around the reefs at Halaveli. Personally we found the reef at Moofushi to be more full of sealife and more accessible than at Halaveli but the excursions at Halaveli enabled us to see a lot.

Overall we would really rate Constance Halaveli for its amazing setting, fabulous service and excellent hospitality. You certainly wouldn't be disappointed!

The paradise to go for
Reviewed 1 month ago

There is no place in the world like Constance Halaveli. It’s really the paradise to go for. In any sense it’s pure luxury and from the moment you will arrive in Male you will feel like King and Queen as the Halaveli staff will treat you like that in such a lovely and supportive way you will never ever want to go back home!
That’s why we decided to come back after one year and felt exactly the same again. Everybody working in or for this paradise always wanted to make our stay as comfortable and personal as possible, which we really appreciated in every second of our 4 night stay. We had amazing weather, even more amazing sunsets, nice wine and incredible food and so many lovely and caring people around us. I wanna take the chance to in special thank our villa hosts who were surprising us every day with new lovely details, the Jahaz Bar Team (in special Yapa, Bandara and Faycal) for the best and personal service you can ask for, the sommelier team for making us sometimes a bit drunk but in the best way possible, the TGI Dive Center Team, my personal benchmark in diving and water sports activities, the Spa team for world-class massages and pure relaxation, our yoga teacher Bianca for the nice and relaxing sessions, Martina our amazing and charming guest relations manager and last but not least Dominik, the manager of this beautiful and unique resort for this amazing time in paradise we will never forget. Words cannot describe how enthusiastic you will feel when you are there and how much you will love this special little paradise. So just go for it!
We will definitely come back again ;)

Bucket list destination! Can’t wait to return

We visited Constance Halaveli in August 2018 for our honeymoon this has been most memorable experience of the lifetime and we travel a lot. At first, we were not sure if there will be enough activities to keep us busy for 10 days but we enjoyed every moment and only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.
From the moment we arrived to the island we felt like being part of a big family. Water villa was absolutely beautiful offering a plunge pool and direct access to the ocean where you can spend hours and hours snorkelling and exploring astonishing wild life. The whole island is like a 3d post card that you would see on Pinterest and assume it was Photoshoped. The scenery is just breath taking, absolutely make-believe views and colours!
All-inclusive package is a must as the selection of the food and drinks in the local restaurant is mind blowing. We live in London and have easy access to world class restaurants but Constance Halaveli restaurants are on another level. Every day there was a fresh selection of freshest seafood, meats, fruits, etc. and we just couldn’t stop until we had tried everything and there was a lot to try! Food - mind blowing!
So is the service! Again, we travel a lot and have been to many resorts but can honestly say that the service and hospitality at Constance Halaveli is by far the best we’ve ever experienced. We could allocate a separate section just to prise every single member of staff at the resort as this is what made the whole experience truly unforgettable. We were always greeted with a smile by everyone and this never changed throughout our stay, making us feel very special. All departments of the resort were always aware of our daily plans and routine allowing us to do nothing else but to relax and enjoy fully every moment without having to worry about anything even once.
We apologise in advance if we forgot to mention anyone personally but wanted to say massive thank you to Nadia, Alexandra and Rasheed who would great us so kindly for every meal of the day, they were always so pleasant to chat to and not just the usual small talk that you would expect. Huge thank you to Jenna, our scuba instructor, who was just an awesome teacher, so passionate about the underwater world and who turned us into fanatic divers for lifetime. They all made our dream honeymoon a reality and an unforgettable lifetime memory. We will defiantly be back!
