The Review

From the moment you board the gleaming speedboat that whisks you from Malé’s aircraft carrier–like airport, past the turquoise rings that mark shallow coral reefs and shoals and pods of dolphins leaping in the distance, to the lush, boomerang-shaped island of Bodu Hithi, it’s clear that you’ve arrived. Holiday mode — with cool, scented towels and chilled bottles of water to ameliorate the humid tropical air — starts now.

Coco Bodu Hithi is a relatively new development. Built in 2006 as a high-end haven of luxury and service, there are six excellent restaurants, a water sports center and dive school, and a gorgeous spa — not to mention pristine stretches of white sand, a coral reef teeming with marine life just off the beach, and a glass-walled infinity pool.

The resort’s good looks, top-notch amenities and helpful staff are complemented by its proximity to a stunning house reef (around 30 feet away). Because, after all, the real star of the show is nature. Baby blacktip reef sharks cruise the shallows, hermit and ghost crabs roam the beach, and at night the ocean sparkles in myriad silvery shades, a mesmerizing display that makes it hard indeed to leave this amazing resort, tucked away in a discreet corner of the North Malé Atoll.

허니문 때문에 여러 리조트를 알아보고 이곳을 찾았지만. 후회는 없습니다.

몰디브는 어느 리조트를 가도 좋은곳이니, 가장 중요한건 직원들의 친절함과 서비스라고 생각합니다.

그런의미에서 코코레지던스에서 투숙하게되면 개인버틀러 서비스를 받게되는데. 아무것도 아닌 것 같아도 이게 정말 큰 장점 중 하나입니다.

개인 버틀러가 매일매일 저희의 스케쥴을 체크해주고 필요한건 없는지 부족한건 없는지 물어봐줍니다.

정말 환상적인 섬에서 대접을 받고 있는 그런느낌.. 이왕 몰디브에 오는거라면 이 느낌을 경험해보셔야 한다고 생각합니다.

Four days in Cocoboduhithi was the best moments of my life.

I looked around 20 resorts for my honeymoon, but I never regret that I chose this place.

It had fantastic view, friendly staff, and delicious meals, and it was enough to satisfy us.

The best thing was personal butler service. All staffs are kind, but Raj mani, we met, in particular, guided everything in the resort perfectly and kindly.

Even my wife, who could hardly speak English with him, said she missed him as soon as she came back to Korea.

I think that many asian customer visit the coco-boduhithi who can't speak english well. but I really want to say them "Don't worry".

All the staff working at the resort will be able to treat you perfectly.

Once again, thank you for the cocoboduhithi that gave me the most special gift in my life.

We stayed in a Coco Residence Villa (the highest level of accomodation) for one week from Saturday 4th May on an ALL INCLUSIVE BASIS, so please bear in mind my information here is based on that package.

We had the most amazing week, and could not stop simply gazing at the perfect turquoise ocean and the perfect white beaches. We have both travelled all over the world and have never seen such perfection and such beautiful turquoise waters. The villa was simply lovely, with a seperate living room, kitted out with a Nespresso coffee machine, sound system, tv, and comfortable sofas. The bedroom was large, and the 6' bed was very comfortable. I noted that there is a pillow menu to choose different pillows from. The bathroom was amazing with a very large walk in shower and a very large free standing bath with a view over the ocean! Outside we had a very private deck area with chairs and table, loungers, and large double "bed" sun-bed, and steps down to a lower deck where you could go down a ladder and enter the ocean straight from your own villa, plus we had our own little private infinity pool; simply bliss. Watching the beautiful colourful fish from here was mesmerizing and we spotted Eagle Rays at least 4-5 times - stunning (we missed the Manta Rays-they had all migrated about 2 weeks before our stay).

Mohammed was our villa manager/cleaner and he kept everything absolutely immaculately clean and responded to our requests very efficiently ( extra toiletries when needed etc). Like all the staff here he was lovely and so chatty and friendly.The toiletries are Aqua di Palma and are luxurious, gorgeous and plentiful.

We enjoyed snorkelling over the reefs and spotting such unusual fish and coral (equipment loaned for free for the week), and we loved the beautiful main infinity pool which is in front of the Latitude Bar where we could get our drinks and lunch from. Lunches here were very good. Some days we went to loungers on the beach and some days we went to loungers by the pool. Towels are provided ready on all loungers for you.

There are just about as many different water sports as you can think of. Motorised ones are chargeable.

The buffet restaurant was great for breakfast and with a huge choice of cuisines from Arabic to English, again service was very good, and another lovely chap called Mohammed looked after us here. As buffet restaurants are not for us we only used this for breakfast.

We ate dinners at Aqua, Stars, and Tshusi. All absolutely excellent silver service and top quality food such as Lobster, Shrimp and Aberdeen Angus beef which was exquisite. All the staff in these restaurants were fabulous, Samsira and Binyan were very attentive and lovely.

The only negative we had -and we did give this feedback to the assistant manager Humphrey early in the week- who sorted it for us on the spot - was that it felt that some the staff did not quite understand the concept of all inclusive guests. There were a few things we couldn't have because we were on the all inclusive package. The cocktail list for the all inclusive guests was very limited and most of them did not have much actual alcohol in them - until we discovered the Margeurita which was 100% perfect. We were also told we could not avail ourselves of the mini bar and alcohol in our villa as this was not included in the all inclusive package. We do really enjoy having a late afternoon drink on our own deck/terrace/balcony wherever we are in the world after a day by the pool, and this seemed very inflexible. We could not ask for "all inclusive" alcoholic drinks to be delivered by room service either. However after our chat with Humphrey he told us we could ask the bar staff to give us a bottle of whatever we wanted (prosecco or wine) and we could take it back to our villa which we did a couple of times. Humphrey really managed the situation very well and turned around a negative situation into a positive.

However I do think they should provide some drinks in the villa which are part of the all inclusive package so you do not have to carry a bottle back from the bar in your beach bag! I completely understand that they would not to include all the premium spirits which sat on the unit in our living area looking very tempting but they could provide some wine, beer and prosecco in the mini bar fridge for you to help yourself to.

I would still strongly recommend the all inclusive package though unless you are superbly wealthy. For UK and European visitors in particular food and drink is much more expensive than what we are used to. We signed our bills for our meals and drinks (that is their process) and although they all stated nil at the bottom (because we were all inclusive) we could see what we would have paid if we were not all inclusive. Average dinner was $250 for 2 people and lunch $100 to $150. It did make the all inclusive package very good value for money. I can only assume they have a high cost of living because we also noted at Male airport duty free that perfumes and makeup (e.g. YSL and Chanel) were double the price of the UK so were not worth buying.

Overall it was a perfect holiday and the team at the resort were amazing. I would highly recommend this resort, if you are looking for peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings, great accommodation, excellent food and excellent service. We would definitely return.

I booked an escape water villa in this resort 6 months in advanced with a lot of expectation after conducting a very thorough research beforehand via tripadvisor. However, it turns out that the resort is very bad. I will try to provide with a very objective reviews for all travellers to be informed with. I won't discuss with the price or many noisy Chinese customers since it's a subjective issue.

1/ It's lucky for us that the sky is very clear and the view, beach is very stunning. It's absolutely beautiful.

2/ During the stay, you will be recognised by "hello" "good morning"...if you come across any single staff (but not if they're in the group, I will talk about this later).

3/ When using the buggy, they turn off the light if there's people in front.

4/ my door was broken, the technician was there to fix it pretty quick.

5/ I would like to thank specifically to Mohammed Yazte (don't know his name, but speak like Yaz-te, something, he's working at the Air restaurant), he's the best staff in the resort during our stay, very attentive, friendly. Another wonderful staff is the one who made egg in the morning (pizza at night for American theme buffet), I don't know his name, but he and Yaz-te make our trip better.

6/ The reef is really good, take your time snorkel around.

7/ I was provided with a champagne and late check-out, it's really good for me.


1/ The disaster first started with the boat transfer, in the very beginning we noticed the boat did not seem to work but the driver still tried proceed with it leaving Male, making us freaking out in the middle of the ocean as the boat stopped working. In the end, we had to wait nearly 30 mins for another boat to come to "save" us. I don't know if they do a regular maintenance or not.
2/ My room was not provided with a soap.
3/ I forget to provide them with the passport. I do understand that they need to have the passport in advanced, however, making a call at 9:30pm is very impolite given that we're about to sleep due to the time different and a stressful boat transfer.
4/ One very important thing is the service inconsistency. On one hand, many people said hello and smiled at you, however, there are many other staffs (at the air restaurant, buggy services), their face just like they're being forced to work. For example, at one time, we get a buggy to our villa, there are a group of other guests asked "coco residence", the driver just say "water villa" and driving immediately (in just a blink of an eye in a rude manner). Also, I noticed that when staffs go in the group, they keep talking with others and did not care about your existence. I used to be in other luxury resort and supposed it should be a norm, but here some do, some don't.
5/ Wi-Fi. Our first 3 days, Wi-Fi is practically useless, it can't be used, we're having 4 devices but it was very unstable. Only after Tuesday (around that I can't remember exactly), it can be used.
6/ WATER & ELECTRICITY. Yes, our 3rd day, electricity stopped working for at least 30 mins, water on the 4th day stop working as well for more than an hour, we needed to use the toilet but NO WATER. It's such a joke, I can't be angrier with the water, other stuffs are fine, but water, it's such a very basic thing but it stopped working and left us in a very awkward and difficult situation.
After water, I had a feeling like everything was unstable, from internet to water, electricity. It's just so inconsistent, it's basically hit and miss. Keep in mind that this is the beginning of May, low season and no rain during our stay.
7/ I order Laksa for 3 consecutive days. 1st day, mayonnaise, butter was provided but no bread. 2nd day, they provide all with a bread, which is fine. 3rd day, mayonnaise, tomato sauce was there but no bread and butter again?! I asked on 3rd day if they can bring the bread, after accounting for long distance, but we're ending up waiting for more than 30 mins for just a bread (remember that ordering a whole new Laksa take around 35-40 mins), we just cancelled it anyway.
8/ The door in front of my bath tub can't be opened, I've to ask the technician come to fix it.
9/ I called the reception few times, but many times no one picked up the phone, I have to press "operator" instead. But I remembered I could not call reception but I called an operator and he told "he's in reception"?! Not sure it's understaff or what, but there was one time asked for the buffet dinner price at the Air restaurant, but the operator told he did not know?! He's at the reception, he should have known all about the basic thing like the buffet price but he told me to ask the restaurant? No number was provided, so I just give up, had to walk long way to the restaurant to ask for the price.
10/ I had a feeling that the staffs at the resort is a bit layback, not very professional. You have to chase that up for yourself or you will be at disadvantages. For example, they first have me a late-check out at 14:00. I asked my flight was 11:25, is it possible if they can have it later. After that, yes, they can do it. Why didn't they do it at the beginning?
Another instance is the Star restaurant, we were booked at 7:45 but we arrived it early. We were waiting for nearly an hour. By 7:30, we see that there are many empty table, so we asked if we can go there, they immediately said yes?! mean, staffs always have a better option for us, but unless you chase for that or else you will be at the disadvantages.

11/ During our stay, I always being assumed for Chinese guests. Please don't assume any Asians are Chinese.
Hint: take a table far from any Chinese group, they are simply too noisy for you to enjoy the holiday.

To sum up, my door, Wi-Fi, water, electricity, all of them are not working properly. Staffs in general are not very attentive, seems they just there to do their job. In villa dining lunch is not consistency. If it's a normal 4 star then I won't bother writing it here, but it is a 5-stars luxury resort with high price, then in my opinion it's nowhere close to it given all the experiences I've gone thru. Again, I won't include many other points (food quality, price, range of selection) since it's a bit personal based or subjective.

Many people may ask why I still give 3 stars given all many negative experiences. Yes, there are many negative experiences, it happens, but we did enjoy the Maldivian ocean, the big villa, swimming in the pool enjoying the sky, snorkel. there are many wonderful and memorable things that make our trip great in terms of the crystal clear ocean. Those are 5 stars view, reef, ocean, but not the resort itself or the services I received as noted above.

We have been there already five times, never disappointed and we will certainly come back. Last time we have been there in February 2019. Again, nothing to complain about. The employees there are incredibly friendly and make you feel home. One key highlight to share: We are scuba divers since ten years, but the current team there (Carole and Federika) are just incredible! The best experience in 10 years scuba diving.
If you consider to visit the Maledives for diving, this is the place to go!
