As intimate as it is compact, the island of Baros is a classic Maldives idyll that combines sugar-white sand, palm-shaded grounds and a sparkling lagoon. One of the first luxury resorts to open in the Maldives, Baros has been attracting sunseekers since the early 1970s, and keeps them returning thanks to its contemporary thatch-roofed villas, three top-notch restaurants and its impossibly romantic overwater deck, perfect for candlelit dinners, yoga sessions and couples massages.
Bed and Bath
The Deluxe Villas are set in thick tropical vegetation and feel completely private. The contemporary interiors are done in earth tones, with polished wooden floors and rattan furniture, and all offer shaded verandas with deck chairs and umbrellas and direct access to the beach. Cool off in the outdoor shower; the sandstone bathrooms overlook a secluded garden. The Water Pool Villas are spread out over 1,356 square feet and come with a private ladder leading directly to the calm lagoon. If that’s too taxing, the villas also feature a spacious deck with a private plunge pool. Each Villa has a dedicated Villa Host to assist with room service requests and excursions.
The two-story Lighthouse offers nearly 360-degree views of the ocean and serves international dishes on the ground floor and cocktails on the second-floor terrace. Dine on International cuisine at Lime restaurant, or combine seafood and steaks at the Cayenne Grill. Sink your toes in the sand at Sails Bar, which is located beneath a grove of palm trees. Couples massages are available at the resort’s spa, which is also equipped with an air-conditioned yoga pavilion where classes are offered. Don a face mask and flippers and explore the house reef, which is home to a colorful array of fish and the occasional sting ray.
In the Area
Besides the lively house reef, nearby sites include the wreck of the Maldive Victory and Banana Reef, one of the country’s first dive locations to be discovered. A half-day cultural excursion to Malé, is a must for a glimpse into the country’s Islamic history; pay a visit to the gold-topped Grand Friday Mosque and the ancient Old Friday Mosque. For a romantic meal, book a sandbank dinner: The resort’s chefs will prepare and serve a private dinner for two surrounded by the ocean and the setting sun. A sunset dhoni cruise (including canapés and champagne) is a great way to further explore the North Malé Atoll.
How to Get There
I surprised my newly wedded wife to a honeymoon straight after Banyan Tree Seychelles.
We took as trange trip - flying from Seychelles to Dubai - Dubai Male which wasted a day really. You can fly to srilanka from Seychelles then catch a flight form Sri Lanka instead !! ( didnt realise this at the time though)
So we landed in Male flew to Movenpick resort ( see Movenpick review ) then took a speed boat trip from Male to Baros.
On this particuler day the weather had been horrendous with ALL seaplanes being suspended from to the North Atolls which we had just come from ( again its in Movenpick review) and we still had to get to Baros.
The speed boat over to Baros decided to have an bit of a melt down and we had to shelter next to the presidents island near Male (interesting) unitil another boat could be sent. The journey itself is no more than 20 mins or so on a good day but took us longer as we had a sick speedboat to transfer from.
We arrived on a miserable day and just couldnt wait to have a drink to be honest. There was no real picture post card views when we arrived, just heavy clouds and tired eyes. The days following this though stunned us to the reasons why so many fall in love here. The groynes you do see at low tide but still doesn't really spoil anything. The sand is beautiful and the resort itself is very romantic.
We were greeted by our island host Rifaau who was always thoughtful polite and very happy at all times, great assit to the team and made our stay very pleasurable too. Wishing you a beatiufl marriage too Rifaau.
Three all different but all very pretty settings, the lighthouse being the most famous and please go on Jazz night for a unforgettable moment with your loved one.
The setting is perfect for cocktails, sunsets and fine dining, it has it all.
We ate at all three and all have something different to offer too.
The Main Bar
Another wonderful setting with seating right up to the shoreline for romantic views across the indian ocean. Prices were not too steep and make sure you get plenty of Wassabi crisps from the barman ( you get peanuts too) whilst having a drink.
The Room Boys
Couldnt fault them, very professional Ali Ushaid. Thank you for tidying up a mess everyday.
Hire the camera from the dive pro team for around 30 dolllars and they also give you a speed stick 16 gig with all your pictures on it...Bargain.
You can see everything really, turtles, sharks etc and really is a very safe and beautiful reef.
The Beach villa - 112 Is near the water villas so it seemed a little crowded up this end but was never an issue after the first day. you didnt have to walk more than 8 metres from villa to the shoreline either.
The Island itself
If you love Frangipani flowers than this island is for you to see them. The grounds are very well kept and spotlessly tidy too - credit to the ground staff. It's a tropical paradise for everyone really.
You cannot walk all the way around the beach but there are large stretches to walk along together.
Perfect size with all the kit you need really, including water and apples to boost.
Sadly we never used but got shown around and thought how pretty it was really.
We dressed up in our wedding gear and took shots around the ilsnad mostly early in the morning. Some great settings too. We loved the resort.
The Pool area
Always very quiet but very big to swim in, great to view the indian ocean from the infinity pool too.
Loved the resort
We will return
Loved the staff and Ambiance

We have stayed at BAROS several times, and we are greeted warmly every time. When we entered the room,"Welcome home" was drawn on the bed. So,we felt like we were back in Baros. There were many staff who work for Baros for a long time, and they remembered our face and give us warm greeting. The fishes and the turtles and the sharks in BAROS's house leaf also greeted us.(The coral reefs in BAROS's house leaf have revived and fish has increased. We've felt so relieved.) Baros is our ONLY "The Second House".
If Paradise exist, then we found it! Blown away from first minute by the island’s beauty, exceptional service provided by the superb staff, the stunning accommodation in ‘our’ water villa and the delicious food served all day.
A special thanks to Olena for being a tremendous Host, and making every wish and desires come true.
Baros offered us what we’ve always been dreaming about and now finally could experience. We have been fortunate to visit many places around the world, and dare to say that nothing beats Baros when you’re looking for a top notch romantic couples vacation or honeymoon.
