As intimate as it is compact, the island of Baros is a classic Maldives idyll that combines sugar-white sand, palm-shaded grounds and a sparkling lagoon. One of the first luxury resorts to open in the Maldives, Baros has been attracting sunseekers since the early 1970s, and keeps them returning thanks to its contemporary thatch-roofed villas, three top-notch restaurants and its impossibly romantic overwater deck, perfect for candlelit dinners, yoga sessions and couples massages.
Bed and Bath
The Deluxe Villas are set in thick tropical vegetation and feel completely private. The contemporary interiors are done in earth tones, with polished wooden floors and rattan furniture, and all offer shaded verandas with deck chairs and umbrellas and direct access to the beach. Cool off in the outdoor shower; the sandstone bathrooms overlook a secluded garden. The Water Pool Villas are spread out over 1,356 square feet and come with a private ladder leading directly to the calm lagoon. If that’s too taxing, the villas also feature a spacious deck with a private plunge pool. Each Villa has a dedicated Villa Host to assist with room service requests and excursions.
The two-story Lighthouse offers nearly 360-degree views of the ocean and serves international dishes on the ground floor and cocktails on the second-floor terrace. Dine on International cuisine at Lime restaurant, or combine seafood and steaks at the Cayenne Grill. Sink your toes in the sand at Sails Bar, which is located beneath a grove of palm trees. Couples massages are available at the resort’s spa, which is also equipped with an air-conditioned yoga pavilion where classes are offered. Don a face mask and flippers and explore the house reef, which is home to a colorful array of fish and the occasional sting ray.
In the Area
Besides the lively house reef, nearby sites include the wreck of the Maldive Victory and Banana Reef, one of the country’s first dive locations to be discovered. A half-day cultural excursion to Malé, is a must for a glimpse into the country’s Islamic history; pay a visit to the gold-topped Grand Friday Mosque and the ancient Old Friday Mosque. For a romantic meal, book a sandbank dinner: The resort’s chefs will prepare and serve a private dinner for two surrounded by the ocean and the setting sun. A sunset dhoni cruise (including canapés and champagne) is a great way to further explore the North Malé Atoll.
How to Get There
OK,there must be dozens of places that ooze the wonder that is the location of the Maldives; just coming here makes you happy and wanting to experience the most fabulous time of your life. Well, Baros, leaps this ideal into the stratosphere. Our villa looked like it had been completed yesterday, appointed to the most discerning taste, combining the rare mix of stunning outlook, fresh and functional decor and sensible configuration. Its comfort, facilities, view and location are unsurpassed.
The staff are out of this world, with their friendly and sincere welcome, watchful eye and constant strive for excellence, which is achieved effortlessly, from the top down. Everyone shares the responsibility of your stay, from the managers down.
The snorkelling is gorgeous, restaurant locations worth a visit just for the physical aspects, and the food divine.
And we were only here for less than 24 hours, but its impact will be forever.
Value for money for sure. And that was from the moment we arrived to the lingering care given to us at the airport departure.
Congratulations Baros team, you deserve every accolade bestowed upon you, and you set a standard which others should aspire to, but will be impossible to beat. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
Just came back from a wonderful stay at the Baros. Have been wanting to visit the maldives for 25 years and Baros made all my dreams come true! Wonderful service from the top to bottom. Sharu made us welcome on the speed boat ride. Our villa host Rifau made sure that anything we wanted was handled efficiently and graciously. Shaha was a bubbly personality that made us feel welcome. Jay the manager was a visible presence that constantly checked to make sure everyone was having a wonderful trip. Started the morning with Kamal and yoga. Nikin's smile started our morning everyday at the buffet. I was traveling with my husband and 13 year old son. We went snorkeling every day and it was amazing! My husband and son went fishing and the resort cooked the fish that same day. It was wonderful! Our favorite dining experience was the breakfast buffet at lime every day. Also had an amazing dinner at lighthouse restaurant. My only suggestion would be some kind of fans or cooling system in the patios of the restaurants. Thanks for a great time. We will definitely be back!
Baros is simply paradise on Earth. From the moment we docked onto the island we felt we were in some magical place.
We chose Baros based on TripAdvisor and friends recommendations - we definitely did not regret it.
Maldives is a beautiful place and many people that go enjoy it wherever they stay but I can say Baros did all they good to give it that extra magical touch.
We were collected at the airport and quickly taken to the speedboat where we were offered some beverages. It took about 20 minutes to get to Baros, which went pretty quickly. The fact we landed after 3.30pm eliminated hotels which required seaplanes and made Baros a definite option for us.
Outstanding service from the moment we were met at the airport until the moment we were dropped to the airport. Special thanks to Sharu for assisting us on both speedboats.
Also special thanks to Asim our Villa Butler who was always reachable at any hour and accommodated our every request. Asim very kindly also so arranged a treat for our anniversary.Every staff greets you with a smile and a hello. Marine centre staff also very friendly and offer free snorkeling equipment.
For such a small island the food range was very decent. As vegetarians we felt we might struggle but they catered to requests when needed.
Breakfast is outstanding.. Combination of buffet and a la carte. Chefs can personalise dishes without any issues. Range of fruit amazing too! And fresh juices absolutely delicious.
Well kept sand with amazing Maldives ocean water. Warm and filled with amazing coral and fish! Snorkeling is so easy and so beautiful in these waters.
Beautiful island, very well kept by ground keeping staff.
A bit basic inside but beautiful on outside. Could do with some more equipment.
Stayed in the deluxe villa. Beautiful decor espc the bathroom. Room a few metres away from the beach. Quite secluded. Good amenities in the room too!
Overall an amazing resort in a beautiful part of the world!
Not many times Iam into giving a five star rating but this resort deserves it. Staff is honestly friendly and helpful and not only because they want your tip. Facilities are beautiful, nice an clean. It worth to visit if you need to relax
Or second visit to Baros and we would definitely love to return. Guaranteed to be looked after by Jay and his wonderful team. The Island itself is virtually flawless with barely a leaf out of place. The food in all the restaurants is as good as you’ll find anywhere in the world. For us the star of the show is the house reef. We found that it is abundant with marine life compared to other resorts with house reefs. For example in our last 30min snorkel we saw three turtles, giant trevally, sharks, shoal of 7 eagle rays and plenty more. There’s always something new to discover. The discover scuba package and the night snorkelling package are also highly recommended. Thank you Baros.
