As intimate as it is compact, the island of Baros is a classic Maldives idyll that combines sugar-white sand, palm-shaded grounds and a sparkling lagoon. One of the first luxury resorts to open in the Maldives, Baros has been attracting sunseekers since the early 1970s, and keeps them returning thanks to its contemporary thatch-roofed villas, three top-notch restaurants and its impossibly romantic overwater deck, perfect for candlelit dinners, yoga sessions and couples massages.
Bed and Bath
The Deluxe Villas are set in thick tropical vegetation and feel completely private. The contemporary interiors are done in earth tones, with polished wooden floors and rattan furniture, and all offer shaded verandas with deck chairs and umbrellas and direct access to the beach. Cool off in the outdoor shower; the sandstone bathrooms overlook a secluded garden. The Water Pool Villas are spread out over 1,356 square feet and come with a private ladder leading directly to the calm lagoon. If that’s too taxing, the villas also feature a spacious deck with a private plunge pool. Each Villa has a dedicated Villa Host to assist with room service requests and excursions.
The two-story Lighthouse offers nearly 360-degree views of the ocean and serves international dishes on the ground floor and cocktails on the second-floor terrace. Dine on International cuisine at Lime restaurant, or combine seafood and steaks at the Cayenne Grill. Sink your toes in the sand at Sails Bar, which is located beneath a grove of palm trees. Couples massages are available at the resort’s spa, which is also equipped with an air-conditioned yoga pavilion where classes are offered. Don a face mask and flippers and explore the house reef, which is home to a colorful array of fish and the occasional sting ray.
In the Area
Besides the lively house reef, nearby sites include the wreck of the Maldive Victory and Banana Reef, one of the country’s first dive locations to be discovered. A half-day cultural excursion to Malé, is a must for a glimpse into the country’s Islamic history; pay a visit to the gold-topped Grand Friday Mosque and the ancient Old Friday Mosque. For a romantic meal, book a sandbank dinner: The resort’s chefs will prepare and serve a private dinner for two surrounded by the ocean and the setting sun. A sunset dhoni cruise (including canapés and champagne) is a great way to further explore the North Malé Atoll.

My husband booked the Maldives as a surprise for our 20 year Anniversary knowing it has been a destination that I have wanted to visit for a long time, my No.1 bucket list
I had no clue which Island or where we were staying, so when we arrived JUST WOW, the island is absolutely beautiful, stunning infact, better than perfect, PARADISE on earth but so much better than i'd ever expected or imagined it could ever be.
The staff are so attentive and welcoming, they greet you whenever you pass, I couldn't fault a single thing about anything whatsoever.
We stayed in a Sea Villa again just WOW, stunning views overlooking the ocean, our own infinity pool and steps directly into the ocean, we were lucky enough that my husband requested a sunset villa which every evening we sat on the decking and watched it go down, words cannot describe this place it's outstanding beyond anything i could have ever imagined I am in awe of how beautiful and perfect the Island/Resort is and I WILL be returning no doubt about that.
I also had one of the best surprises on our actual anniversary day where my husband arranged private dining on the the sand bank in the middle of the ocean, a short speed boat ride and we were there, what an emotional evening, it was so beautiful watching the sunset celebrating with Champagne & canapes before having our own private chefs cook the most divine courses for dinner for us, a special anniversary dining together in the middle of the ocean on our own little island i'll never forget this, pure magical.
Our Villa Host Ekatarina was absolutely lovely and helped my husband arrange all the finer details for our special anniversary night, she would always come over and say hi if she were in the vicinity and see if we were happy or needed anything at all.
We were a little worried as June is monsoon season but the weather couldn't have been anymore perfect, the odd shower late in the evening or early in the morning which didn't last long and soon cleared up so we had 10 days of stunning sunshine.
As we went in the low season at times we felt like we had the whole island to ourselves and private dining in each Restaurant which we really liked, as we got to know the staff very well, our lovely waiter in the Cayenne Grill called Mode was fab, a real sweetie, we got to know him very well and within a couple of days he was greeting us by first names every time we see him, he couldn't have been more helpful with breakfast choices in the lime restaurant & recommending dinner choices, even cocktails, we actually missed seeing him when he had a day off and unfortunately never got to see him before we left as he was off :-( to be fair all the staff are very lovely, very welcoming, just some you click with and Mode was our guy :-)
Breakfast was served at the Lime restaurant with an extensive buffet range and a menu for freshly cooked foods, fresh juices and champagne were included
All restaurants have lush menus, A la carte style foods, we ate in all 3 and alternated each evening leaving The Lighthouse to the first weekend having been told its the top restaurant on the island, what beautiful setting from the cocktail bar upstairs to eating on the lower decks overlooking the sea, watching the sharks swim by, we always ended our evening at The Sails bar usually being the only guests there, again the staff are on hand to make sure you are well looked after throughout the evening, Sunday evenings they had a live band on which we enjoyed while drinking cocktails.
I could go on and on about this resort as i am still overwhelmed with how perfectly, perfect it was and is that I am still day dreaming of when I will return
We both absolutely loved this place, now one of the best holiday destinations that we have ever been too that i don't want to go anywhere else ever again.
I wanted that dream holiday & that is exactly what Baros did for me, I loved every single second of it, it couldn't have been any more perfect if you tried.
Palm trees, white sand, superb restaurant,spa-what more could anyone want.Speedboat transfer from the airport.
Eight paces from our bungalow and we were in the warm water-absolute heaven. We walked around the entire island in 8 minutes!
Could not recommend Baros more highly.
We had four amazing days in this resort. It is very close to Male and therefore easy to travel to if you don't have many days. The staff is fantastic, very personalized service. The beach is also amazing and the snorkelling incredible. We stayed in a beach villa and we didn't miss not being in a water villa at all!
Thank you to everyone, we hope to be back soon.
We returned Sat evening from Baros resort, I cannot say enough about this amazing place. The staff are exceptionally warm, caring and genuinely interested in making your stay spectacular. They were there when we needed them but it never felt intrusive. Azim our villa attendant was fantastic as was Rana our villa host. She organised a birthday cake, champagne and an in villa birthday breakfast for my 50th. We stayed in villa 104 which was near to the restaurants, and had direct access to the beach. Snorkelling in the house reef was fantastic with amazing fish variety, we also spotted black and white tipped sharks, turtles and sting ray, the snorkelling was literally on your villas doorstep. We had the bed and breakfast option, the breakfast was substantial and very good quality. We felt the prices in the restaurants were a bit on the steep side. We also didn’t realise that if you book directly with the resort, they provide the speedboat transfer. We booked through a third party site and had to,pay US 468 for the boat transfer. Besides these two small grievances, I highly recommend Baros Resort and we definitely plan to return for a future holiday.
