Overview

Hip, villa-style hideaway with modern design and private plunge pools near Seminyak’s beach

The Lowdown

Comprised of 24 thatched roof villas, the architecture of the Kayana Bali is airy and angular, with a crisp, modern approach to décor thanks to stone floors, wood-trimmed walls of windows, dramatically lit soaking tubs and pinstripes in place of batik. All accommodations come with 24-hour butler service and mod cons such as loaded iPods, plasma TVs and WiFi. Heated private plunge pools are set in well-manicured gardens with minimalist arrangements of stone and bamboo. Drink and dine poolside at Duah on Western or Asian dishes, or arrange for romantic in-villa experiences after a treatment in Ayur Spa.

In the Area

Party central for Bali’s bikini-clad jetset, “The Yak” is the island’s stylish center of luxury spas, sophisticated nightlife, foodie restaurants, and unique shopping — and, of course, high prices and traffic snarls, so rent a bike or moto to get around. Jalan Laksmana’s legion of indie boutiques is a good place to kit up for nights out at Ku de Ta and the W Retreat’s WOOBAR. If you need a little culture, TAKSU curates killer contemporary art and pretty Petitenget Temple is right off the beach, or just browse antiques on Jalan Kerobokan (near Seminyak Road).

Construction and Clubs
Reviewed 1 day ago

The Kayana is a beautiful hotel with well kept grounds. The villa was amazing and the bed was super comfortable, but even with the comfortable bed this didn’t help us stay asleep while the nightclub next door had loud music going until 0330-0400 every morning. And then on top of that there was construction in the next lot that was from 0700 until 1900. I know the construction is temporary, but it still is not something you want to hear the entire day while on vacation. The food was okay. Not great and not terrible. The “free” breakfast was small and 75% of the menu was an added charge. The coffee was awful and the lattes tasted like milk. I would not be as harsh on the review if this wasn’t a five star resort, but nothing except the front reception seemed five star.

I was surprised it was rated as high as it is, maybe some of the visitors have not stayed around the area in other hotels, or my wife and I came at a bad time.

Pros:

Location
Comfy beds
Great staff
Beautiful villas
Free transport to Seminyak square/village

Cons:

Noise (the villa walls are glass, very beautiful, but not great to keep sound out)
Mediocre food
Poor included breakfast
Value (especially in the area)
Coffee
Hot water does not get hot

I would not recommend it. There are plenty of hotels in the area where you can get much better value than the Kayana.

A fantastic experience

We stayed here for three nights. I was with my mother and 5 year old daughter. I wanted to book the alila or Anantara but both hotels were full. I liked this hotel for the location and reviews and booked a villa with a plunge pool. The staff were warm and polite, the villa was luxurious and the location fabulous. We all enjoyed this place so much. The breakfast was great, all the nice restaurants and bars are within walking distance from the hotel and they are even kind enough to give you a drop to the seminyak square of you request an hour on advance. Every afternoon they have free tea and snacks from 3 to 6 pm. The rooms are so spacious and there's a lovely sit out. The spa was great too. We ordered room service for lunch, the menu was reasonably priced but the food was not great. That's the one thing they could improve on. The W hotel is just adjoining this hotel and potato head beach club is a five minutes walk. It was a great stay and I'd recommend this hotel to honeymooners and families with young kids alike. The greatest asset are the lovely and extremely helpful staff.

"Great Stay"
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed in a Villa with our own private pool and arranged an "all inclusive" package. From the day we arrived the staff couldn't have been any more helpful and friendly. It is in a great spot and centrally located to the shops and other attractions around Bali. The room and pool were spotless and they were all cleaned every day. Thanks to everyone at The Kayana and we would have no hesitation in staying here again when looking for a very relaxing holiday.

Perfect Stay

As with all other reviews, this villa is out of the world once you stepped in.
Strategically located.. walkable distance to the potato heads, mrs sippy and the city centre.

Breakfast is yummy, wonderful services by the staff. They even provide me with a medical box when i bruised my foot. Ayur spa is great too. If i'm to fault anything, it will be that the furnitures is a bit dated. Nonetheless a wonderful stay at The Kayana. Thanks all!

Beautiful stay

We had a wonderful time at The Kayana & would not hesitate to stay there again. The location is spot on, as is the service. There is construction next door, but only noticed when having breakfast. Thanks so much for hosting us!
