A trip to Surakata – also knows as Solo – practically guarantees a culture-rich experience. Though small, it’s one of Indonesia’s epicenters of Javanese tradition, perfect for immersing yourself in a new culture.
Novotel Solo sits in the historic heart of the city, surrounded by colorful markets, majestic palaces and other attractions unique to the area. You can embark on day trips to see waterfalls and other treasures of the tropical countryside, or stay close by to watch traditional performances or shop for batik (with the Batik Museum just next door, you can get an up-close look at the process for creating this traditional style of printing on fabric).
But no adventure is complete without a luxurious base to return to each night. With its spacious rooms, spa and various facilities, the four-star Novotel is just the place to be. Indulge in afternoons by the pool, spa days, or simply call in some room service. You’ll be rested and ready to head out to explore more of Solo in no time.
How to Get There
Overall the hotel is not a bad place to stay, but they need to renew soon if they want to compete with newer hotel in city. I see a high number of 5 start rating and I just wonder whether I've been to the same hotel or not, I just guess most of guests attracted by the international brand just never visited any other hotel in city, thus do not have term of comparison.
During my previous stays in Solo I've been to Alila and Best Western for the same or slightly higher price, this last time I came back to Novotel after years and it is just faded, comparing to other new hotels in Solo Novotel is now sub par, in term of quality of interior, either the common area and the rooms. I've been upgraded for free to executive room as probably standard room were full and I appreciated the effort, room furniture were still OK but old, curtains were stained and warned out, bathrooms rater small and old style shower cabin. I know the meaning of "old fashioned" but Novotel is now just old. The swimming pool near the restaurant is still nice and the fitness center in common with Ibis is well furbished despite also showing some signs of age.
Another disappointment was the breakfast buffet, the choice of western food was almost not existent, no sausages or fried bacon (even the "halal" one), no yogurt, more variety of Asian food but still rather limited. Executive lounge offers a limited range of coffea tea, soft drinks and choice of sweet or savory snacks, all self service, I visited a couple of times and it was never staffed, an empty soft drink can and a dirty dish were still there abandoned on the same table for hours.
Unless they are going to operate a renovation I think next time in Solo i will choose another Hotel.
Good hotel to stay in Solo. Spacious room, clean, comfortable bed, near city centre, the pool was good, staff attitude was warm and nice, good breakfast and affordable room rates. There's almost nothing to complain about except the shower that in my personal opinion for some reason felt dated. All in all, this is a good hotel to stay in Solo.
Novotel Solo is located in the center of Solo, not far from the biggest batik market (Klewer Market). This modern
and comfortable hotel provides a variety of western and traditional Solo menus for breakfast with services from friendly staffs. The room's price is reasonable compare to other equivalent hotel.
Wonderful employees who provide such genuine and warm hospitality from start to finish. Possibly the finest Front Desk staff I have been served by as they had the terrific ability to show their personalities upon every interaction. The hotel is in need of some investment as it is starting to age, however the staff are able to reduce how much this impacts upon the quality of the stay. In terms of facilities the size of the gym is excellent; terrific spa; comfortable beds; and a couple of good swimming pools that are probably a bit small for lap swimming, but certainly suitable for relaxing.
Good hotel, good location, as always the room is in need for renovation, but overall stay is quite pleasant. Oh, the breakfast needs to be improve as well. I tried to find a butter for my bread, but they don't serve it by case. Please, don't save on this small thing.
