Private villas and intimate service, the last word in luxury on Bali’s tranquil shore

The Lowdown

One of Bali’s most famous resorts applies the “It Takes a Village” ethos to its luxury offerings, both literally (147 stone-wall-enclosed private, thatched-roof villas spread over 35 acres on the bluffs of Jimbaran Bay) and figuratively (detail-oriented focus on sublime service). Alleyways and flower-filled nooks wind down the terraced grounds, which hold an open-air spa, fitness center, and five restaurants and lounges. The newest, Sundara, serves cocktails and international cuisine next to a beachfront infinity pool well into the night. But with plunge pools, soaking tubs, outdoor showers and separate marble-floored bales outfitted in teak and batik, leaving the villas may as well be optional.

In the Area

Twenty minutes south of the airport, Jimbaran Bay is known for three things: expensive resorts (developers call it the “Beverly Hills of Bali”), its beach (all fine white sand and calm water) and the 50-odd fire-grilled seafood restaurants that line it, offering a no-pretense, quintessential way to take in the spectacular sunsets. On-property activities include tennis and an armada of watersports (catamarans, canoes, windsurfers) with guided excursions for snorkeling or temple treks. A Balinese Cooking School attracts even non-guests, offering half-day classes with optional market visits — plus kids’ pastry programs — in a custom-built, tricked-out kitchen.

Regular visitor and never fails expectations

We have been staying here for nearly 10 years and the staff always remember us, our likes and remember the little things.
Fantastic service and staff are amazing. Well trained and attentive. Look forward to our next visit!

Excellent as usual

This resort lives up to the Four Seasons reputation for excellence. Every aspect is premium. The villas are spotless and up to date. The dining venues are lovely. The staff is welcoming and address you by surname immediately and throughout your stay, a nice touch. I’ve also stayed at and reviewed Sayan which I do prefer slightly but either is an excellent choice.
