How to Get There
We loved the Hotel Charlee! Probably the coolest hotel we have ever stayed in. From the moment you arrive the service is slick and unbelievably helpful. The bell boy is absolutely charming and even welcomed us back with open arms long after we had left when we arrived needing to kill some time before our flight. The rooms are super cool & well appointed- the ‘maxi-bar’ was truly inspired. The rooms are a little on the noisy side, but you are in Colombia & a happening city at that so why not get into the spirit of it all!
Breakfasts in Lucia downstairs are also a highlight, a great selection of interesting bits and bobs as well as the breakfast classics and a lady who makes you fabulous omelettes to order. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we ever come back to medellin (fingers crossed).
The only place we'll stay when in Medellin. My wife is from there and we've enjoyed this hotel several times. Amenities are incredible and the staff even better. Santiago Villa is a huge asset to the property -- don't lose that kid!
Keep up the great work -- we'll be back soon!
The Charlee is a cool hotel right in the middle of a really lively area of Medellin, cool lobby and very helpful english-speaking front desk staff. The gym is outstanding, 2 floors and lots of classes. The rooftop bar is amazing for the views and great sushi. The room was nice, spacious and modern bathroom with robes and slippers.
The "patio" area is nice additional space and thankfully can pull doors closed as it gets really loud at night with all of the bars nearby and we were on the 12th floor.
The only complaint is that we found the bed really uncomfortable.
2 nearby restaurants that were delicious:
Cool hotel in heart of Medellin’s crazy nightlife district. Guests are greeted by warm lobby area which connects to bar and restaurant overlooking the street. The look and feel is organic with dark woods and nice lighting.
Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, well equipped and large terraces. Very nice.
Rooftop bar is just ok. Views are nice but I thought they could have done more with the space to make it more inviting and sociable.
I did work out at the 3 story gym overlooking Medellin which was a great way to start the day.
I found service to be slow. Staff did speak English which is a plus in Medellin but I think tram can do with some training on refining service skills. The attitude is there - to me it’s a function of a bit more training.
Nice option if in Medellin but be warned, you’re in the heart of the Medellin craziness.
We came for the good reviews about the skyline view which indeed is great, we took some pics and decided to have a drink and enjoy the view. We ordered 1 special fruit gin and tonic and an amaretto. The gin had nothing but syrup, the amaretto was barely 1/2 finger but they charged as if they were truly elaborated cocktails, too expensive for the service (no napkins, no even a peanut!). Our advice: take the pics and leave! :)
