Overview

A hip Costa del Sol hotel with a popular lounge near mass transit and the beach

The Lowdown

Located in the heart of Malaga near mass transit and the beach on Spain’s Costa del Sol, this Barcelo outpost features 221 rooms that echo the playful modernist vibe found throughout the hotel. From the lobby’s enormous, tear-drop shaped chandeliers to its stainless steel slide that empties into B-Lounge, the design here is decidedly slick. B-Lounge rocks glossy mosaic-tiled walls and lime green cube-shaped chairs and is a great place to nurse a cocktail before heading out for a night on the town. And guests will enjoy creature comforts such as free WiFi, satellite TV, a gym and sauna.

In the Area

Bustling Malaga is a popular stop for most people visiting Spain’s famed Costa del Sol. Shopping opportunities abound here, and some of the best streets to flex that plastic are Calle Larios, Carretería, Álamos and Alcazabilla. The city is perhaps most famous as Pablo Picasso’s birthplace, and so the Museo Picasso, housed in a 16th century palace with over 200 works of art, is a must-see. For a history lesson, visit La Alcazaba, a fortress for the city’s Muslims rulers. And if you want to find a place to unfurl your beach towel, you can do that, too.

Air con could do with sorting as too hot to sleep when turned on at lowest setting. We opened small side window second night to help but negative was some street noise. But hey ho it is what it is and again we enjoyed our stay very much.

Everything was great. Comfortable beds, good aircon, good wifi. Highly recommend breakfast with champagne, excellent hams, cheeses, smoked fish, fruit juices, great choice of bread, cooked eggs and bacon. Perhaps the best I've ever had.

Nice hotel with room for improvement

The location of the hotel is good, it is not too far from the city center. The bed was nice too and I especially liked the availability of different types of pillows from hard to soft, enough choise for everybody. You don’t find that often. The service in the hotel is very good, the staff is very friendly. The terrace with a pool on the 8th floor is very nice. However it was very warm in my room when I came in and only a small window could be opened. Also the aircon set on a minumum of 18,5 degrees didn’t bring much. So my first night was too hot. I left a note for housekeeping to keep my window open and that made it a bit better but for those that like a cold bedroom you will not find that here. Also the lighting was difficult to manage. Basically it is all on, or all off. Both small bedlamps were not working. To open the drain of the bath you need to turn the knob but that causes the tab to face upwards, so be careful there. Also there is a bit of smell from a drain in my room. Don’t know for the other rooms of course. I parked my car in the hotel parking but as a guest I think 21,50 for one night stay (from 20.30 to 08.00) I think it is way too expensive. So in the basis a nice and modern hotel, but some room for improvement.

Great stay!

Clean and up to date hotel. Rooms are modern and nice. Friendly staff who were always there to help. Cool rooftop bar and pool. Close to the railway station, so getting to the airport is easy, cheap and fast.
