Occupying a prime position on the Costa del Sol, between Puerto Banus and Estepona, Barcelo Estepona Thalasso Spa is a haven from the stresses and strains of the humdrum. Situated just 600 metres from the beach, with a shuttle to ferry you to some of the area’s most sought-after beach clubs, this luxurious retreat houses a beautiful outdoor pool offering ideal cocktail drinking and lounger loafing territory. It’s also within a putter’s swing of several excellent golf courses, including Guadalmina and Atalaya.
The main event here, however, is the hotel’s 2000 square metres worth of mesmerising, blissful spa facilities. This is one Mediterranean escape that’s bound to leave you feeling as shiny as a new cent by the time you leave. Not only does Thalasso U-spa offer its visitors a marine therapeutic circuit with clean water piped direct from the Mediterranean, it also provides 11 marine hydrotherapy rooms, 19 sumptuous Thalasso suites, a range of soothing massages, and beauty treatments give your body an outward healthy glow. From Niagara to Jamaica, the spa’s hydromassage baths have got the world map covered. The therapists here don’t go for a one-treatment-fits-all approach, they tailor their professional handiwork to your body’s individual needs and skin type.
Superior double rooms come decked in neutral fabrics with modern furnishings. The serene and relaxing ambience perfectly complements the main pampering purpose of this luxurious retreat.
When you’ve finished with the dynamic pool with counter-current system, active pool with more than 20 stations, air-water beds, swan neck jets, cascades, hydromassage jets, Finnish sauna, hammam and aroma bath, try a treatment or two. Packages include the Integral Care and the Marine Encounter programmes.
Dr Antonio Escribano, specialist in endocrinology and nutrition, has had a say in the mouth-watering menus available at Aguamar Restaurant. You’ll find nutritionally balanced meals offering up sophisticated gastronomy and wonderful flavours. À la carte options are available, alongside a buffet spread. Daytime snacks are available at both the lobby bar and the pool bar.
The hotel is located 600 metres from the beach on the sparkling Costa del Sol, an area that offers some of Europe’s finest stretches of sand and sunshine. Watersports are available by the boat-load and keen golfers will appreciate the range of top notch courses found within a short put of the hotel.
How to Get There
My husband and I stayed here for three nights in October. The hotel is fabulous and perfect for a relaxing couples holiday. We were originally allocated a room which was next to the lift but wanted a little more privacy so my husband mentioned this to Manuel on reception who showed us room 304 which was absolutely amazing. The view from the balcony was of the coast one way and mountains the other and we enjoyed many glasses of vino whilst watching the world go by. As we booked directly with the hotel we were given free garaged car parking and free breakfast. The breakfast was everything you could ask for, omelette cooked fresh to order, Spanish tortilla, hams, cheeses, fruits, cereals, pastries, yogurts, bacon and sausage, orange juice, coffee fresh from the machine and cava. There was an abundance of everything and plenty of it. The pool area was extremely relaxed with lots of sunbeds and a large quiet pool. There is also a pool bar which also serves lunch. The pool area along with all of the hotel was extremely clean and looked after. All the staff were extremely pleasant and friendly, especially Manuel and Javier. Our holiday is definitely one to remember, our only regret is that we didn't book longer. This hotel is a fantastic, get away from it all, adult only hotel. We would not hesitate to return or to recommend. Thank you for making our holiday extra special.
My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend in October. We booked the room directly with the hotel and it was good value, including free car parking in the underground garage, breakfast and a thalasso experience for both of us each day. We had a lovely twin room overlooking the beautiful pool area which was illuminated at night. The beds were very comfortable and the room was dark and quiet so we had a great sleep! There were twin sinks, a bath and shower above. Despite the location of the hotel there was not really any road noise. The outside bar was lovely and served lunch and drinks until about 7pm. There was another bar next to the lobby and you could sit outside too. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is on a main road and not really near anything but we had a car so it wasn’t an issue. There is a Lidle within a 5 minute walk for provisions if required. Estepona was a 10 minute drive in one direction and Puerto Banus 10 mins in the other direction. There are some really lovely restaurants within a 10 minute walk and a Burger King opposite the hotel. We both had a full body massage which was great and residents get 20% off treatments. My only word of advice is to be careful in the underground car park as it is very narrow to drive in with lots of pillars. We had a small car and still had difficulty. We would definitely stay here again.
Only stayed one night here before moving to the Elba Estapona. It's a very smart well appointed 4 star hotel with great rooms ( no kettle though) and great food - especially the breakfast. But the location is AWFUL. It's right on a big roundabout next to a motorway. To get to the beach is a trek down the side of the motorway and over a foot bridge where the only local sights are Burger King and 2 supermarkets. If you want this hotel for the spa or for a golfing base and you've got a car, then it's great but for a long weekend away it was disappointing, hence the move. Its €20 taxi into Estapona or there is a local bus.
