With soaring ceilings, spacious interiors and no shortage of charm, Zoku is shaking up Amsterdam’s hotel scene with its lofty living and home-away-from-home experience. Sleek white walls provide the blank canvas, while cacti, unique art pieces and quirky touches, like hanging gymnastic rings, provide plenty of character. In fact, the rooms here are so inviting that you may even choose to spend a night in – and if you do, you’ll be able to whip up a storm in your fully equipped kitchen (don’t worry – there’s an on-site restaurant, too).
Amsterdam is a famously easy city to explore, thanks to its metro system, leisurely canals and bicycle-friendly streets. The museums and popular sights are just a short walk away, and the local area is bursting with cafés and boutiques. If you’re stuck for ideas – or just want a local’s view on the best places to eat, walk or shop – just ask one of the hotel’s Sidekicks. These guys and girls, dressed in white shirts, act as an informal concierge and can suggest the perfect destination or activity for anyone’s taste.
Ingenious use of space means that each Zoku loft XL has plenty of room for a seating area, a dining table, a small kitchen and a plush king-sized bed. Cook up a storm on your own two-burner induction cooker and make use of a microwave, a fridge and even a compact dishwasher – all designed to make life as easy as possible. Each room also comes with a starter pack that includes all the essentials you’ll need during your stay.
At The Living Kitchen, you can socialize with fellow guests at the long communal tables – designed to encourage conversation. As well as breakfast, lunch and dinner (available in leisurely or express options), there’s a popular weekend brunch offering Mexican eggs, fluffy ricotta pancakes, pulled pork on brioche buns and smoked-salmon bagels.
The hotel’s treatment room offers everything from yoga and meditation to traditional beauty treatments. Customized facials and restorative massages are also available, and there’s even a fashionable boutique gym, HIGH45, which offers high-intensity cardio classes at a discount to guests.
Centrally located in Amsterdam and easily accessible by car, public transport and bicycle, you’ll find Zoku in the trend-setting Eastern Canal District. Surrounded by coffee-roasters and independent shops, there’s plenty to see in the local area, and most of the city’s sights are within a 10–30-minute stroll.
How to Get There
Great place! The roof garden is definitely a highlight, in addition to their punching bag and table tennis. The Buffet is tasty, serving a variety of fresh juices and the service from the "Sidekicks" (if I remember correctly, is what the Employees are called) is excellent. They are very helpful and informative. Thank you for your help Steffie!
This site is asking if there is steps-free access to the bedroom, the answer is absolutely not (at least not in room 115). You need to climb some stairs to reach the bed, but first, you have to pull out the stairs from within the entertainment wall before climbing them. The bed is situated above the TV 'wall'. I found that quite charming, but
if you have some sort of physical ailment, then it might not be so charming for you. What I would change is the mattress itself, it kind of sinks in the middle. Something more sturdy would be best :).
I really liked the creativity of the hotel, but because their concept is not something travelers may come across often, then it will take some time getting used to it. It's a place that thinks outside the box, they welcome change, so go there open minded and you will enjoy it. Hey it's spunky Amsterdam, so anything is possible ;)! Have fun!
Almost forgot....location is great! The fantastic Artis Zoo is not far from hotel, very easy to access and also tram number 14 which takes you on a nice route where you can hit plenty of touristy spots and Amsterdam Centraal Station.
In addtion, if you're sporty, try out the gym next door High Studios offering a great 45 minute cardio workout. The price per class is 10 Euros if you're a guest at Zoku Hotel.
Just a wonderful place to stay. They live by their values - you're treated like a friend during your stay. Beautiful restaurant and bar and very cool rooms. Well situated a walk from central Amsterdam.
Thanks Zoku, it was a pleasure staying with you.
This is not my first time staying at the Zoku but sure it will be the last.
The cleaning standards are so low that I just checked in and now I have to clean my room including the sheets. There is something floating on the liquid soap, bread crumbs on the floor and pee stains on the toilet seat.
This time I’m only here for a couple nights but if it was for more than that I would had left.
Shame on you zoku!! You used to be my favorite place in Amsterdam.
Great hotel, friendly staff, very cool rooms, and an amazing roof garden!
I went for dinner with my Gran, we had the 4-course sharing menu which was simply delightful! We both loved the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere and the staff took great care of my disabled gran.
Everything about the experience at Zoku was was well-considered, convenient, and uplifting. The room layout is beautiful, efficient, and comfortable...touches like the sliding stairs up to the beds are fun. The addition of the exercise rings inside the room was a nice touch. The hotel breakfast was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the plant/light filled common spaces were a pleasure to hang out in. Zoku was head and shoulders above many more expensive hotels that I have stayed at. I loved staying here and will come back again.
