How to Get There
Friendly and helpful staff, lovely room. Breakfast really good. A little bit out from center but you can walk to a tram that runs often. Nice restaurants within walking distance to hotel and also a short walk to rembrandtpark and vondelpark. We really enjoyed our stay.
Myself and my girlfriend stopped at the westcord fashion hotel for 3 nights for a short break over the easer weekend.
Check in is not until 3pm (unless you book direct with the hotel) but that is pretty much the same for most hotels in Amsterdam. We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and check in was very straight forward indeed. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and we got our room key cards after signing the paper work and paying the deposit.
We were on floor 6 and the room we had was very nice indeed. Lovely big king size bed and the bathroom had a walk in shower and a bath. There was a safe to use and there was also coffee and tea making facilities in the room. The toilet was a separate room in the hotel room.
There were only a couple of down points to the room. Firstly there wasn’t a fridge in the room so any water, pop etc that we bought cold didn’t stay cold for very long. The other thing that may put people off is that the bathroom door was a glass see through door and you can see whoever is in the shower or bath from the bed. The toilet was closed in but the shower wasn’t. It did not bother us as I was with my girlfriend but if you were staying with mates you may want to ask if all the bathroom doors are see through like this.
The breakfast was very good and there was plenty of choice too. It runs from 7-10 weekdays and 7-11 on weekends and it tended to get busy at around 9:00/9:30 so avoid this time if you want a quieter breakfast. A full English is easy to plate up but they also do cereal and continental breakfasts as well.
The basement of the hotel houses a sauna, swimming pool and they do massages as well. When we knew about this we made sure to take our swimming stuff as it was lovely after a long day in the centre to come out and have a quick swim in the pool. The pool is free but the sauna and other things cost so we didn’t bother with that.
In terms of location, this is where my mates and I disagree. The hotel is not in the centre and it is only 1 train stop from Schiphol Airport (Leylaan station) with a 10 min walk to reach the hotel from the station. It also has links via a short 5-8 min walk to the tram stop to the centre and Leidseplein. You can catch tram 1 or 11 and this goes to Leidseplein and then onto central station or tram 17 to go direct to either dam square or central station. Leidseplein is just a quick 4 stops away and probably takes about 5mins. I prefer staying out of the centre as you can go and enjoy everything but then come back to the peace and quiet for your sleep where as my mates tend to like to stay close to the centre.
One thing I have found though is the closet to the centre you get the more expensive the hotels are and quiet frankly the lower the star rating and expectation you should have. The westcord is a 4 star hotel and this is clear when you get there.
Overall we found the westcord a very nice hotel indeed and would definitely consider coming back again. It’s cheaper than many of the hotels in the centre and a much nicer hotel overall.
My friend and I came for a weekend away, we arrived at the hotel at 9am but unable to check in, however we were able to drop our bags off and explore the city. We brought a tram pass at reception which wasn’t very expense. The staff speak very good English and can answer many questions. The hotel is on the outskirts of the city, but the closes tram stop is about 5 mins down the road.
The breakfast was very lovely, continental style, very large selection of fruits and pastries. It felt well organised.
We had a few meals in the bar downstairs, which were reasonably priced around €16. The drinks however are expensive unless you like beer this was relatively cheap.
The Skye bar had lovely atmosphere, and beautifully designed. The cocktails were lovely, and the view was very nice.
Overall we like this hotel and would come back in the future. Thank you for a lovely stay.
The hotel is nice, the location is accessible to the museums. It's a nice walk through the Vondelpaark. You can enjoy a nice bike ride through the park. The rooms were average. New minimalist decor. The breakfast meals were something to look forward to daily, we had a nice late dinner in the bar which was good. The front desk staff at the hotel however, are not friendly. They are professional, they are not warm and you feel like you are bothering them when requesting.
This was our first time we took our son to Amsterdam to discover a city we both loved - and to see Ajax play. The WestCord Hotel was a perfect choice. Our room was lovely and spacious, the location near public transport, many shops, bars and restaurants was perfect, and we loved the Sky Bar, the swimming pool, the gym and the restaurants. Breakfast was superb and the staff always friendly and cheerful, even though a little slow - but that's part of the wonderful laid-back charm of Amsterdam. We want to come back soon!
