How to Get There
A very unique, industrial and boho-chic feel is what Sir Adam provides. Used our Marriott points for a 2 night stay here and we got upgraded to a city facing room. Facilities were great, loved the raw decor of our room which came with a record player (which was so much fun, especially there collection of classic rock, and 70s, 80s era songs). Location is superb as there is a free 24 hour ferry that drops you right at Amsterdam Centraal station.
Not being 20 something the hip and cool only goes so far. There were pluses and minuses for sure staying here and for me the minuses outweighed the pluses.
Pros: you take a ferry across from the train station so you are out of the hustle and craziness of city center. Five minute ride on the ferry and the hotel is right at the ferry exit.
Public areas are well designed to be energetic and entertaining which is a plus for the “happening” tattooed crowd.
The hotel restaurant called the butcher, served pretty good food for the meals we had there during our stay, especially we liked the breakfast.
The room was dorm sized but well thought out for such a tiny space. Killer views of the city. And water.
Shower worked well and the bed however soft was also very comfortable. The room was very quiet as well. No hallway noise or sounds of someone flushing their toilet above you.
Friendly staff helpful when service was needed.
The public spaces when we came down for breakfast was flat out dirty. We had to wipe down our own table from whatever was left from the day before. It remained dirty throughout our stay. Part of the problem is the foot traffic is constant from people coming into to be hip and cool at the bar which along with the restaurant one big open space.
So from the busy night before and our breakfast time of 7am the downstairs area had not been cleaned at all.
The room was one of the smallest I have ever stayed in and the AC barely worked so the sealed room was warm for me. When I called downstairs to find out where the AC controls were because it was like a puzzle finding the controls as they were blocked by an oversized dresser. You cannot see the dials so you just have to figure out with you hands that you are moving the temp dial up or down. Same thing with the room lights. They were hidden because of the poorly thought out oversized built in dresser.
When I called about managing the AC controls and to figure out where they were the staff person said “it could take a few minutes to several hours for the AC to increase. I started laughing as that was a first for me and he then asked “but is everything else good in the room”?
If it were just one of us in the room I might have been more forgiving but for two people we kept bumping into each other trying to get ready in the morning.
Would I stay here again? No probably not unless it was a killer deal which this stay was not.
This place has a very hip vibe to it. Never a dull moment. We were impressed when we entered. The lift had Karaoke. Then we realised each lift has some special feature. Really unique. The rooms are a bit small but quite comfortable. The view is amazing. The rooms have a record player which was again unique. Moveover the location is convineant. Amsterdam central is just a five minute fairy boat ride. Loved this place. Definitely a good option in Amsterdam.
Had a great stay at Sir Adam. Easy accessibility from the central station, just a five minute ferry ride plus 2 minutes walk. Great views from the room. Room was well decorated and clean. Service was good. Overall a great stay. I stayed for 4 nights, but that was not enough.
As if you needed yet another reason to stay in Amsterdam, the Sir Adam hotel should be on your checklist. Incredibly convenient, located just across the canal (with continuous free ferry service just steps away), the modern, funky vibe of the hotel is superbly complemented by excellent service. Truly the staff couldn't be more friendly, helpful or professional. (And everyone from the front desk to the bartenders speaks English.) We came in on a cruise (the hotel is visible from the cruise terminal) and wanted in our room early. They not only accommodated the request, but upgraded us to a corner room which was well-appointed and very comfortable. Security getting through the elevators to the room can be a bit tiresome, but it's a good thing because the hotel is part of a tower that also has office and public spaces. I think the only downside I can comment on (and I'm grasping at straws here) is that there isn't a lot of control over the HVAC system. The building used to be the Shell Oil Company headquarters and so they have a central system with limited control on a room-by-room basis. That being said, the room temperature was comfortable, we just like a very cool room for sleeping. I couldn't recommend the hotel or the staff more highly.
