How to Get There
Ozo hotel was an ideal base for our group holiday to Amsterdam. My partner and I stayed in a deluxe double room on the second floor which was spacious, clean and comfortable, as was the ensuite bathroom. Friends of ours stayed in a family room on the floor above which met their needs perfectly.
In terms of location, the hotel is a 5 minutes walk to the nearest metro station, and a further 15 minutes train journey to Centraal station, which never proved to be a problem for us. There aren't any convenience shops to purchase food and the likes particularly close - I think the nearest was a 15 minute or so walk from the hotel. There is a vending machine in the reception area which helped to solve this issue, however be aware that the minimum spend is €5 if you would like to see any of your change.
Check in was a little more complicated than we would have liked. Before departure from the UK, we e-mailed the hotel regarding city taxes and damages deposits as we thought it odd we hadn't been informed of one and were told there would be a €75 deposit which would cover both rooms on our booking. Upon arrival at 2pm, not only was one of our rooms not available yet (after leaving our homes at 3am, we really wanted a shower), but we had been incorrectly informed in our emails, and the deposit was actually €75 per room. This wasn't an issue in the long run as on check out all money was returned to us, but could've been an issue had we struggled to pay the money upfront due to relying on the information given to us in the first place.
We didn't eat in the hotel as the breakfast was priced at an extra €15 per person per night which we felt a little pricey, and the journey to Centraal made it more convenient to have all meals everyday in the city. The evening menu looked rather appealing though with a variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and the selection in the bar was very good with a range of spirits, beers, bottles and soft drinks available. This though, was quite pricey again but we expected that of Amsterdam.
I can't complain about our stay in this hotel other than the fact it absolutely isn't a 4* and definitely not worth the price I paid.
Check in was quick and easy, although slightly shocked when we were told breakfast is complementary when I paid extra for breakfast, something I'll be checking with the booking agent.
Our room was a pleasant size and clean as was the glass cube bathroom which included a lovely shower.
Considering the 4* rating and price, I would have expected at least a complimentary bottle of water in the fridge instead of having to pay 2€ for 250ml from the vending machine as there are no shops close by.
The room could be quite noisy at times especially when upstairs were using their bathroom, this didn't bother us but I can imagine plenty of people would see this as a complaining point.
The restaurant didn't have much to offer for evening meals and the drinks at the bar were very pricey however the breakfast was nice and plenty to choose from.
5 minute walk to the closest metro station and 15 minutes to centraal, again not a problem and actually found it nice to be away from the husstle and bustle.
Would I stay at this hotel again? Yes absolutely if the price dropped significantly.
The hotel looks great and it's nice and quuet and the room is nice (executive suite) the bathroom situation wasnt nice being able to see silhouettes of people in there. The bath was awesome and deep!! Shower was nice too.
The daily cleaning service wasnt good, they didn't change the sheets they just turnt the duvet over which is fine until our 3rd night when we saw the stains made from the first night (pizza) on the duvet, considering you're paying well over £150 a night that's not good! The breakfast is nice but on the 3rd morning we saw 3 ants on the top where the food (bread stuff) was, so we left breakfast that day.
