Offering warmly appointed rooms in the heart of Amsterdam, Hotel Espresso City Center is a great option for a small-scale and friendly stay. The hotel opened in Overtoom in 2012 and has since been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for its relaxed, low-key hospitality.
Its location is what really sets it apart from the city’s grander names. The historic center, houseboat-lined canals, buzzing Leidseplein and the beautiful Vondelpark are all within a few minutes, as are the famous museums telling the stories of Anne Frank and van Gogh. Rent a bicycle, and follow the watery network past tall 17th-century buildings and coffee shops for a laid-back taste of Dutch life.
Standard Double rooms have a warm, modern style, double or two single beds, and sleek, en-suite bathrooms with complimentary bath treats.
If you’re visiting Amsterdam to see the sights, Hotel Espresso City Center is in the perfect spot. As the name suggests, it’s right in the heart of the city, a mere five-minute walk to the beautiful Vondelpark and seven minutes from Leidseplein, at the southern end of Amsterdam’s central canal ring. This busy square is a hotspot for shopping, street performers and after-dark fun, as well as serving as a transport hub for the city. Amsterdam’s reputation for good times is matched only by its fascinating cultural offer; start with a trip to the Van Gogh and Stedelijk museums, a short stroll from the hotel. Anne Frank’s house and the Museum Hermitage Amsterdam are less than half an hour away on foot.
How to Get There
This awesome little hotel is in a wonderful location right by the Museum District. Two tram lines are walkable in 5 minutes or so. Walk out the hotel door and turn left and walk to the tram that will take you straight to De Pijp. Turn right and walk to the tram that takes you to Dam Square and the Central Train Station and everywhere in between. I can’t possibly say enough great things about the staff here. They are all very sweet people with great smiles and a genuine desire to help you. I had train suggestions written down for me, journeys mapped out and explained, and one night, one of the girls at the desk ordered my wife and I a pizza! They will store your luggage if you arrive too early to check in, so you can hit the ground running seeing this great and super fun city. The breakfast buffet is a nice touch and will get you fueled up for exploring. Yes, the rooms are small, but they are all you need. Want something bigger? Go elsewhere and pay more, but trust me, you will NOT get the warm service that this great staff provides. They sell tram passes as well. If I go back to Amsterdam, I’ll be right back here again. My wife and I loved it. The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are a 10 minute walk away, as is the Hard Rock Cafe. The staff also speaks perfect English, so don’t worry about communication breakdowns.
We booked a triple room and we thought it was fairly spacious. The 3rd twin bed was a murphy bed and it was very comfortable with nice linens. We enjoyed the breakfast and the front desk staff was very helpful, we asked a lot of questions!
This was booked for us via our travel agent. It’s not easy finding a room for 3 people in Europe with its own bathroom. The space was TINY! And nowhere in any of the pictures did I find anything stating that the 3rd bed was actually a Murphy bed. The pictures on their website are not correct for what you get. We had curtains that were partially down. Dirt in said Murphy bed was disgusting. The coffee cup that I used on the first night was filled with water and left in the bathroom the entire time we were there as was my son’s hot chocolate cup. There was a constant wait of at least 5 minutes for the lift to go downstairs every morning as housekeeping uses the same lift. I only give this place 3 stars because the location is amazing based on being within a 3 minute walk to all Tram locations and the great front desk people.
