How to Get There
Great welcoming hotel, fabulous breakfasts, very polite and informative. Spotless. Elevator functions not intuitive. Would be great to have coffee machine in the room.
No real complaints, would stay there again.
Spent a night for business. Always a guaranteed good sleep and refreshing stay irrespective of location. Amsterdam was no exception. Thank you to all staff and management that make this possible. An address to return.
I had originally planned on staying at the Waldorf, but I was using loyalty points... and I was slow to pull the trigger and lost out on a lower rate and didn’t have enough points to stay there. I was so disappointed, so I reluctantly booked this Hilton property. On the map it looked far away. Too suburban. An outdated building. Nothing interesting around it except for office buildings and private homes. However the rooms looked large and very nicely appointed with a bright bathroom and a beautiful view of the river. There was also an executive lounge on the 10th floor that looked so inviting which I knew I’d get to enjoy as a Diamond Hilton member. I wasn’t enthusiastic, but I booked it. Checking in I was immediately dismayed with the generic room key that you’d get at any low level Hilton. I’ve always collected hotel room keys and was disappointed the key didn’t say Amsterdam on it. However, that is where my disappointment ended. This hotel has been updated within the past few years. We were upgraded to a spacious junior suite overlooking a canal. The furnishings and wall of windows were fantastic. The buffet breakfast downstairs each morning was bountiful. So many options. The executive lounge on the 10th floor was beautiful. The offerings were small, but the basics were there. And you could get a hot breakfast. I went up everyday for a coffee or afternoon soda/glass of wine. The concierge / bell staff were super helpful - we purchased Metro cards, rented bikes one day and purchased a taxi voucher for the airport. I wanted to post this review because I read soooo many online reviews before when planning our trip to Amsterdam. There were so many negative/mediocre reviews that I wasn’t looking forward to going. I actually considered switching hotels right up to the day before we left!! In the end the thing that initially concerned me the most (it feeling too suburban and far away from the action) was what I loved the most. It was a short walk to Vondelpark and the street you walked to get there was sooo darling and quaint... shops, bakery, gelato, restaurants, markets. The walk to the Metro was so easy. Not that far. There were 2 different stops that were both close. The only bummer was the weather was never nice enough to enjoy the Hilton’s outdoor seating along the river that looked so beautiful in all the photos. I’m very happy we stayed here. Would the Waldorf have been nicer.... probably - it’s a Waldorf... but at a much, much higher cost. If given the choice I’d definitely stay here again.
