How to Get There
Location is not perfect - must uber or taxi or walk to take train to center city. Months before we arrived we contacted hotel and asked for early check in. We are gold members of Hilton honors. 5 of us were traveling and 3 of them arrived before we did on an earlier flight. 2 of them and us are gold. They were told, as we were upon checking in that they kind of room we booked was not available and we could have the next room up for $100 more Euro per night. My friends took that and ended up paying $200 more for 2 night stay. We arrived at 9:30 AM - and said we were not going to pay . We felt it was a " bait and switch" situation. We sat in lobby waiting for room to be ready - finally was at 11 AM. I know that early checkins are not guaranteed, however, to say oh yes we have some rooms - but they are $100 more per night - isn't right. How about - yes we can check you in early for half a day - but that's half of your current rate for one night? Seems like being a long time customer of Hilton - someone that uses your hotels exclusively - and owns two timeshares that are Hilton would buy you something but it didn't. I will say the bell staff was very nice and tried to help and accommodate. Left a bad taste in my mouth for Hilton at the moment.
I’m puzzled by the reviews that said the location was great. It’s in a very residential neighborhood. Other than the tram, everything was an Uber ride away. Yes, the canal side location is pretty, but you probably won’t spend much time there.
We were not happy with our check-in experience. We travelled with 3 other people (3 rooms total) and we all had requested early check-in weeks in advance. When we arrived we were told the only way we could get early check-in was to upgrade to a better room for $100 per night. We are Gold Hilton Honors level members, and our friends are at the highest possible membership level. It felt like they were taking advantage of us.
Lack of organisation and capability to resolve real billing problems. My room was paid twice and I am still waiting for the refund. They invited me to one poor drink that after in the bar was only for softdrinks. The internet code offered was paying instead offer the free option. The breakfast price was higher.
Really poor service and experience.
My wife and I stayed at this Hilton following a 15 day cruise ending in Amsterdam. We had a beautiful room overlooking a canal. This the same hotel in which the John Lennon/Yoko Ono picture was taken many years. We totally enjoyed our stay. The Concierge team of Hari, Jorge, Pedro, and Nico were the ultimate in handling our needs and providing information. The breakfast buffet was superb. Roughly 40-50 feet of delicious food plus a pastry bar. Special egg orders were also available. We also enjoyed a great lunch in the bar. Overall, outstanding stay..
I was here in 2014. Great hotel to stay in. Very comfortable facility and the location is near everything you want to see. Prices are very reasonable. Definitely will stay here again if I return to Amsterdam.
