If you like your lodgings chic and central, then it’s hard to beat Hampshire Hotel – Eden Amsterdam. All-day dining is a Parisian-style affair at Brasserie FLO, an elegant space that showcases classic French cooking with a contemporary twist. For a more laid-back vibe, Bar 36 Black is open from 3pm to 1am for cold beers, cocktails, wine, appetizers and late-night jazz music. The buffet breakfast is especially worth getting out of bed for; expect a generous spread of freshly baked bread rolls, croissants, Dutch cheeses, fresh fruit, juices, tea and coffee, and much more. Alternatively, if you feel like grabbing something on the go, cold drinks and snacks are available from the vending machines in the lobby.
Set on the banks of the Amstel River and just a stone’s throw from Rembrandt Square, the hotel makes it easy to enjoy all the delights the Dutch capital has to offer. Beyond gazing at 200-year-old canals, must-dos include checking out the rose garden at Vondelpark, visiting the Anne Frank House and overdosing on artsy masterpieces at Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and Van Gogh Museum. We also recommend hitting the bicycle-filled streets for quirky one-off shops and neighborhood cafés, stocking up on tulips at Bloemenmarkt, the floating flower market, and seeking out the city’s hedonistic side in the Red Light District.
How to Get There
Really great rooms. Very small but perfectly arranged. Coffee pod machine was great (no creamer so bring your own). Decor and condition was excellent.
Good location. Staff are very courteous and professional.
One thing for sure - you better hope your room is on the ground floor. We arrived at this hotel planning to stay for three nights - this only lasted one night as it was horrible. We checked out two nights early and went to another hotel to stay. Goodluck walking up the stairs - simple as that. The rooms are nothing like what they look like online. They are run down and hardly any lights in the room. Customer service when we arrived was zero - didn’t even greet us with a smile (obviously the person didn’t like their job) - ontop of that they saw my partner and I with two big suitcases and two small suitcases and did not even offer any assistance with our bags. I am newly pregnant and my partner had to carry the bags all the way up the stairs by himself. What a joke. Never again.
I recently spent 3 nights at the hotel and it was a wonderful experience. The breakfast was a delight and the rooms were confortable and clean. The hotel is within walking range of many sites of interest as well (especially my beloved Spui)...! In case you are wondering, this hotel is a sure choice.
The hotel (actually two hotels recently merged into one) is in an excellent position for sight seeing. Upon arrival we were looking forward to checking in and getting settled for our short stay. My goodness what a pompous, arrogant man behind the reception!! I would name him but that's probably not necessary. He was rude, disinterested with a face like a wet weekend. We asked him a general question, he looked at us and obviously decided it didn't warrant an answer! Interestingly enough around the corner along the corridor in the 'second' hotel there is a further reception, the greeting seemed extremely friendly there and I wished we had known about this one.
The room was clean and adequate. We were on the first floor. Unlucky for us we were situated on a road right next to a tram line and those trams kept coming every few minutes and they were noisy!!! I'm pleased I packed ear plugs. Later we fancied a hot drink to discover we had no cups but this was resolved quickly - sadly still no smile from the staff.
The hotel would have been perfect had it not have been for the arrogance of the staff. Maybe a bit of staff training is in order and some customer service courses booked for some of the staff. In view of the amount of hotels available around the area I would recommend people shop around if attitudes dont change.
4 days without any cleaning Room service even after several times demands. Seams crazy but that was exactly what happened. For a stay of 4 days in hôtel eden amsterdam. We asked each time that someone comes and make the Room. We are still waiting
