How to Get There
We booked because of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor and were very pleased with our choice. Walking distance to the train station (so handy for going to and from Schipol) yet very quiet--shockingly quiet given its proximity to the tracks and how many people stay here. There's a Starbucks on the ground floor so no matter how late you sleep (AKA jet lag) you can always get coffee. Minor complaint--the bar is very pricey for beer and wine, so go elsewhere. But great choice, would stay here again and highly recommended. Walking distance to pretty much everything.
I booked a junior suite many months in advance and emailed prior to the stay requesting early check in as we were arriving very early ( I knew it was subject on arrival).
We arrived at the hotel around 9am and were told the room was not ready and to check our luggage and come back. We could access the executive lounge after breakfast service had ended.
So we left a phone number and wandered for a while. We came back and entered the lounge which was quiet but no nibbles or snacks, only water, juice and soft drinks. Most places usually have some nibbles.
We then went to the reception desk numerous times (every couple of hours) during the day as we had international SIM cards we weren't sure we're working.
The official check in time came and went and we still didn't have a room. By this time we had been in transit, with little sleep and no shower since days prior. Sometime after 4pm our room was finally ready when we went to the desk again. Did not receive a call.
Our only compensation was a drink voucher which we did not want as we were unwell from the turbulence on the flights and too tired. We were to be checking out in 12 hours so all we wanted was sleep and a shower.
When we got to the room, it had lovely views but was very noisy from people below. We were only on the third floor so people were right below us at the café/bar seating.
The noise continued well through the night and we saw 3am on our watches and people were still talking and yelling! We got very little sleep! Why wouldn't you have double glazed windows?
Staff were friendly but considering the high price I paid for the suite, I'd expect more compensation for waiting all day past check in time.
We asked for an extension on the drink voucher for our next stay but were told no.
I'm honestly very disappointed from the wait and lack of sleep once in the room. We are not looking forward to coming back in two weeks before we leave Europe, but the rooms already paid for.
This hotel is located within easy walking distance from the central train station. We had a 2-room suite with floor to ceiling windows in both the living area and the bedroom. Both areas were large and a well-appointed bathroom. Within walking distance to the main Dam square and red light district. Took the bus (from central station) to the Anne Frank House. Also, lovely executive club.
