Room with a View
Reviewed 3 hours ago

We stayed at Canal House for four nights after departing from a river boat cruise. We booked an outstanding suite category and were given room 12. The room has three tall windows that face the canal and the view is simply stunning. You can open the windows if you like to hear all the sounds of the city. The room is a decent size overall but it only has one chair. It has a bench against the island which serves as the double sink, the TV stand, and make up & prep table. The room has a built-in loveseat but both of those would not be comfortable to sit on. So if you want to lounge with a glass of wine after a day of walking around in Amsterdam one person will need to sit on the bed and the other on the one chair. Not overly comfortable or luxe but functional and you can both still see the canal views.

All rooms come with a continental breakfast which is excellent. The pastries are to die for and they have yogurt, meats, cereals, fresh fruit and assortment of cheeses. Their cappuccino was excellent as well and the dining room itself overlooks their back garden which is very pretty if you can get a table at one of the windows. Make sure you give yourself enough time though as the service is a bit slow so you want enough time to get served the cappuccino as it is not to be missed.

Overall service at the hotel would be 3.5 as their turn down service, breakfast service, and check out service was a bit inconsistent and had a few challenges.

The overall review of the hotel, it’s ambience,
Location, and proximity to activities with in Amsterdam is a 5 out of 5. Therefore my overall rating is a 4.

Beautiful hotel with friendly stafss

A surprise from my husband ....so I was a bit apprehensive about his solo choice of hotel, but lo and behold was very pleasantly surprised. Canal House was a superb choice, our room looked onto the canal which was a treat. Food was excellent and we found the staff friendly and accommodating without getting too over the top. It has lots of personal touches like the photos and music which is very trendy, decoration is also top class. We cycled all over the city, and Amsterdam is so full of things to do and see that I´m sure we will be back at Canal House soon. Special thanks to Melanie and Jerson for your great hospitality

Darkly chic

Had a really nice stay at Canal House for my husband's birthday (they even decorated our room with balloons!). The hotel is easy to find, in a very pretty location very close to the Nine Streets, the staff are really helpful and the decor is gorgeous - dark and brooding like an Old Master! We stayed in a Comfort Room (sadly ours had no view) but it was extremely well appointed with lots of great touches and very quiet. The breakfasts were great, taken in a lovely high ceilinged room with a view over the private garden. Nothing was too much trouble and we would definitely recommend this place as well as come and stay again.

Lovely hotel, great location

We stayed for 2 nights. The room itself was lovely, very comfortable bed, good furnishings and no road noise. The only negative with the room (number 11) is that there is no real outside view and I don’t think this was clear when booking. Continental breakfast was included and all very fresh with a good choice of food. Weirdly if you want a second tea or coffee with your breakfast you have to pay extra, very out of place in a high end hotel. Very helpful and friendly staff and if you are driving be prepared to block the road while loading, unloading luggage!

Good Location

The taxi from Schipol was euros 53, on way back we walked to Centraal Station, 15 minutes, and took the direct 10 minute train journey for euros 5.10 each. We ate at good steak, Spanish, Indonesian, and Italian restaurants within 5 minute walk from the hotel, the area is not overrun by tourists, waiters like tourists as the Dutch don't tip. Our room on the second floor overlooked the gardens, and was quiet. We walked to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh, about 30 minutes along the canals so very pleasant. The staff were friendly and made restaurant and museum bookings for us. Breakfast was fine, such a lovely room to eat in. We would strongly recommend this hotel for its quiet location, but easy access to the city.
