Lacking warmth and the personal touch.
Reviewed 2 days ago

A beautifully renovated historic property located on a picturesque stretch of the Keizersgracht with a spacious breakfast room overlooking the delightful garden. We had a canal front room with three big windows facing the water (One was not working and could not be opened. No attempt was made to remedy this during our stay.)
We chose the Canal House expecting stylish warmth and hospitality but were disappointed. Despite its obvious character the hotel was strangely lacking charm and warmth, and seemed a little sombre and cheerless.
An expensive boutique hotel needs to offer guests more than a groovy black and purple colour-scheme, funky decor, and a cookie when you leave. (How about one on arrival or at turn-down?). Checking in and out at the bar was not very pleasant. Toiletries are good quality but their presentation in bulk packs suggests you are in a shared dormitory bathroom. Guests are permitted to smoke on the doorstep filling the lobby and lounge with smoke, but this is tolerated. Staff are efficient but apart from two exceptions (one on the morning we checked out) showed little in the way of interest in us.The personal touch was almost completely lacking.
This hotel could be wonderful but would benefit from Management reviewing the ambience of the place and attitudes of the staff. We will not stay here again and sadly cannot recommend it.

excellent for snack s and drinks which we had at the garden in the backyard , nice service and a great place for a pitstop when walking the Amsterdam canals. They serve a wide variety of snacks , one better than the other

A Great Romantic Boutique Inn

If you want to be in a great part of town just a few blocks from the Anne Frank House and don’t like business hotels or ones where the tour busses line up in the morning this is the place. Our room (#7) overlooking the courtyard was large, extremely clean and beyond comfortable. The staff was really helpful. An example of this was the wonderful restaurants they recommended, as well as a canal boat tour one of the original small wooden canal boats that was completely restored. This Inn deserves more than 5 Stars

Cozy Place

The first trip to Amsterdam ever, I stayed at the Canal House. It had such a cozy and homey feeling but at the same time the room as very luxurious. I had a garden view room, and what a beautiful, peaceful garden. The room was so great; they had perfect cable TV channels with English speaking programs, the bathroom was so wide and clean. The breakfast was emasculate; the best Danishes I had in my life. Their location is a bit out of the center with all the tourist; but, quite and that was what I was looking for. It is a but on the higher end for pricing; however, it is totally worth it.

Luxury in a convenient location

You can’t beat the location - in the heart of the trendy Jordaan area. Kudos to Lisa for taking care of all our dining needs. The staff is super helpful and the continental breakfast is a great way to start the day. Beautiful garden area too.
