A lovely, traditional hotel in the enchanting medieval city of Sélestat, 40 minutes south of Strasbourg
This gracious residence, located in the heart of the Alsatian town of Sélestat, is steeped in history and has many a tale to tell. Hostellerie de la Pommeraie was once a Cistercian abbey, and later became home to one of Napoleon’s generals. Today you can read up on Sélestat's illustrious past in its humanist library – so highly regarded it’s on UNESCO’s ‘Memory of the World’ register. Back at the hotel you'll find the whole place has been sensitively updated, with dusky pink walls, a romantic turret and a well-kept flower-filled garden.
The hotel’s super-friendly owners guard its history with pride and offer an extremely warm welcome. You’ll be greeted with a glass of wine (probably a local vintage, as there are a host of vineyards in the surrounding countryside) which you could enjoy out in the sunny garden courtyard. Also located out in the garden, your room is equally pleasing and has been lovingly decorated with individual character. Begin each day with a home-cooked breakfast on your private terrace – just the thing before setting forth to explore Alsace’s many charms. Hostellerie de la Pommeraie earned a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
