Classic American good looks, modern styling and two restaurants, just 15 minutes from Washington D.C.
Masterminded by modern design marvel Vicente Wolf, Lorien Hotel & Spa combines awesome amenities — aromatherapy on demand, two dining outlets by Robert Wiedmaier and a spa that uses only Kerstin Florian products — with parent company Kimpton’s signature irreverence. Classic American touches, such as warm brick walls, are accented by mod furniture and crisp blue, gray and white decor.
Bed and Bath
Each of the hotel’s 107 rooms and suites features an oversize shower and an uber-comfortable bed. Guestrooms can be on the small side, but visitors who want more space can book one of the suites, which feature such classic hotel amenities as clawfoot tubs. If you’re looking for quirky extras or just crave homey touches, use the unique “Dreams” menu (basically a private concierge), which can hook you up with what you want. Guests have requested everything from telescopes to sleeping bags for a night under the stars.
The Lorien has plenty of on-site perks worth exploring. Sip a glass of the house wine before ordering a pan of mussels (the house speciality) at the Tasting Room, the hotel’s casual dining outlet. For a more formal experience, Brabo brings together traditional Belgian cuisine and contemporary styles to create an award-winning meal. Step outside and you’re just seconds from the area’s best shopping and dining; you’ll find an array of boutiques and restaurants along King Street. And if you take the Metro or a taxi, you can be in D.C. in 15 minutes.
In the Area
Lorien is located on King Street, Old Town’s prime shopping area. Turn right out of the hotel entrance and you’ll find most of the shops, but don’t be afraid to check out the side streets, too. And the country’s third-oldest historic district has some great finds for pickers and antiques hunters. One of the city’s best bars, PX, is just a short walk from the hotel. Look for the blue light above Eamonn’s and prepare yourself for hand-crafted creations with house-made bitters and tonic.
