How to Get There
History: Originally built and opened in 1999.
Interior Décor: Modern and bright colors. Marriott standard.
Exterior Appearance: 20 story building.
Outside view from the room I stayed at (333): Other downtown buildings.
Room Description: Standard twin.
Room Size: Approximately 35 square meters. Adequate size.
Room Cleanness: Well maintained.
Bathroom: Shower only. Standard size. Took 5 minutes to get hot water in the morning.
Noise Insulation: OK.
Price and Value: Stayed here as Delta Airlines made a diversion stop at Anchorage for the airplane lavatory sewage tank repairs, for a flight from Portland to Narita. So, Delta Airlines paid for my stay.
Bed: Twin Medium softness. Slept fine.
Services: Busy staffs. Average food at the ballroom for dinner. OK food selection but poor services at breakfast buffet.
We stayed here as part of the Royal Caribbean land tour package. Our room was very nice with a king bed, desk and chair, easy chair, two nightstands, good size closet, chest of drawers, iron, and ironing board.. The bathroom had a shower, no tub, but only one towel rod.
I am a regular at this hotel when I travel for business - this is my 3rd visit this year. It's a very well located hotel in downtown - tons of great restaurants in walking distance.
Check in is a breeze -being a Platinum member at Marriott - they gave me additional points plus bottles of water. Lovely view of the mountains and valley from my 16th floor room. I had access to the lounge on the 20th floor - for light breakfast in the morning and for coffee, snacks and light soft drinks in the evening.
The room itself is big and well laid - good internet, good number of plug points, good sized bathroom, internet TV, fridge, etc. Very comfortable beds as well.
The bar in the lounge has a wonderful bar tender. After dinner one night a few friends and I stopped by for some scotch whisky.
Parking is expensive in town - at this hotel, the valet parking is $30 but with the temperature in the 20s - its great to have your car pulled over with the heat on.
This is my go to hotel in Anchorage.
It's hard for a mid-high end hotel to compete with the Captain Cook hotel which is located just a couple of blocks north of the Marriott.
There's pleanty of paid street parking around - hotel offered valet.
Walk a few blocks to some great food and drink spots.
Very well upkept hotel and is very popular with business travellers... and pretty much your only Marriott option in the Anchorage downtown area.
I used the Marriott Downtown as home base while I drove around Anchorage and the surrounding areas, including the Kenai peninsula. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I ordered room service twice (breakfast and lunch). The food was delivered promptly and was very good. There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance that I took advantage of for my other meals. This hotel is used by many cruise lines for passenger transfers, so be aware of potential delays when requesting services such as valet car retrieval. The only downside was the expensive valet parking (there is no on-site parking lot).
