How to Get There
The Grand Hotel is a special place on Mobile Bay. The property was starting to show its age but Marriot has spent the last few months modernizing and upgrading the facilities. The rooms are excellent with updated bathrooms, beds, electronics and large screen tv. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Unfortunately the restaurants were not finished when we were there in October. This certainly limited our food choices and caused us to go off property for food. Other than that it would have been 5 stars.
Had breakfast in remodeled dining room and shocked at its new look! Reminds me of and Airport diner! Hard tables and hard floors! Food was only average as nothing seemed fresh. Alot of money for the food!
Rooms have recently been updated. They look great.
Staff was extremely friendly. Service is world class.
The 4pm cookies and tea are a nice touch. The young people working at the cookie station were particularly friendly.
The grounds are beautiful. The views of the harbor are amazing.
Only suggestion is that they need to heat their indoor pool. It was too cold for us to use.
Overall great experience
The pluses are it has beautiful grounds, wonderful bay views, lots of activities, well furnished rooms. The negatives: Our last night, the people in the next room (sounded like 2 men and a woman) talked very loudly until 12:45 a.m. They were not yelling, but spoke at a volume like someone talking very loudly on a cell phone at an airport terminal (I imagine everyone has experienced this), and sounded as if they had been drinking heavily. It probably would not have been that loud but it sounded as if they were sitting next to the door which adjoined our rooms. As we were scheduled to wake at 5:00 a.m. and did not get to bed until almost midnight due to parking problems, this was especially annoying. After they waked us twice, about 12:30, I called the front desk. The next morning a note from security was under my door indicating they heard no noise in the hall. Because the noise was coming through the adjoining door, it was probably not loud in the hall, or security may have come by after 12:45. We had a very unpleasant experience for dinner at the Bayside Grill, which is posted as a restaurant review. Parking is an issue. Parking is spread all over the grounds, and getting one near your building is almost always a challenge. On our last night, we returned from dinner about 10:30 p.m. Driving into every nook and cranny of the parking areas took 15 - 20 minutes, resulting in my not finding a parking place. I went to the front of the lobby, and the attendant indicated he would contact a supervisor for instructions. This required about a 10 minute wait. He then instructed me to follow him in his golf cart and for about 15 minutes we drove through every possible parking location and again found no parking place. We then returned to in front of the lobby, and I was issued a valet parking ticket. Thus, it took about an hour to get parked. The Grand Hotel has beautiful views of sunset over the Bay and offers a very nice patio to see this. However, if one wants a draft beer, the bar serving the patio does not offer draft beer. This requires going to the Bayside Grill on the other side of the lobby and ordering a beer and bringing it back to patio yourself. The Grand Hotel has recently gone through a substantial renovation and is now a "signature" resort. It has much to offer, but these inconveniences should not occur at a resort with the prices charged for the rooms.
This is one of our favorite places to visit & stay! They take southern hospitality to the next level! Everyone who works here are very friendly & professional! The accommodations are just wonderful from the rooms to the pool to the grounds! So much to do without even leaving the property! Shopping up in Fairhope is only a few minutes away & The Grand even provides transportation twice a day for that!
