How to Get There
We had a meeting in Birmingham and made our reservation at the Winfrey as we both had stayed here many years ago. I think I was more impressed with this hotel years ago than today. We pulled up and the valet came to our car and asked if we needed our car parked for $18 a day or self park for $12...the self park was a few more feet ahead with plenty of spaces so we pulled ahead and parked ourselves. They asked if we needed help but we each had one bag so we declined. I went to the ladies room off the lobby while my friend went to check us in. I will say it was one of the cleanest best smelling bathrooms I have been in. Not sure what the scent was but would love to know. The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful and minutes after getting in our room we received a call if we were satisfied and needed anything. Nice touch, but we were fine. We had a view of the street in front and could see the restaurant we were going to later about 2-3 blocks away. The bathroom was small and has a tub-shower combo. The room has WiFi and a coffee maker supplied with Starbucks coffee filters, but it is a terrible coffeemaker. I thought my cup would never get filled it was so slow with a thin stream trying to fill my cup. The beds were comfortable and the tv included HBO. The shower is lacking in water pressure..it was almost like the stream was barely getting water out of the shower head as the stream did not come straight out to your body. I wasn’t sure I got all the soap off me. I wasn’t awaken at 4:30 am by the sound of an alarm clock next door buzzing for what seemed twenty minutes before it finally shut off only to start up again after I drifted off. I could fall back to sleep so turned on the tv at 5:45 am since my friend had her alarm set at 6. I ordered breakfast from a menu online since we did not have a room service menu in our room I ordered two poached eggs, bacon, fruit and wheat toast..no beverage except water. It took about thirty minutes. It said $14 on the card that hangs on the door but my total was $21 with tax and other charges. Terrible especially went I cut into my eggs and water poured out so I had to move them over to the other side off the platter to get them out of the water and move my bacon. The eggs seem to have the hard film that made them tough although the yolks were still runny. The bacon was crisp as ordered and the toast was not toasted...so I passed on partaking. The fruit was good. For a $25 breakfast which included tip, no beverage I would expect it also to be hot which it wasn’t. I wanted to pay cash instead of charging it to the room but my waitress had only been there for three days and wasn’t sure had to go about it and would need to bring my change, so I charged it and paid for it at the desk when checking out. If the rooms have been updated, then they need it again as there were stains on our carpet, the ceiling needed painting as there were stains and cracks around the crown molding. We asked for a room near the elevator and she said it was about five doors away. We said fine and then started laughing when we found our room was indeed five doors away and the last room at the end of the hallway! For the prices the Hyatt charges you should expect better rooms and food. The customer service however is excellent.
The location is great. The staff is great. If you stay there please have one of Ms. Hazel's omelettes. The room was nice and I would definitely stay again. Parking was not a problem. 14th floor club access is a added benefit for Hyatt members.
The hotel was very clean and the accommodations were great. Our room extremely comfortable and bright. We planned on going out for dinner but the food in the club lounge was wonderful. The wine, although not top shelf, was also very good. The breakfast the following day was as good as the dinner and the fresh fruit was exceptional.
Top notch accommodations!! This place always treats us right, but this stay was particularly enjoyable. The room was amazing, the services were amazing, and the entire conference experience was enhanced by the quality customer service of Hyatt Regency Birmingham staff.
I had a great experience staying on the Club Level during our Alabama Adult Educators Conference! The housekeeping staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and the staff in the Club were fantastic! The beds were so comfortable, too! I wish I had gotten the names of all of those great folks! I would like to mention Antionne in valet! He was very helpful and shared his miraculous story with us that made our day!
The only drawback about this hotel for conferences is that they only have 3 elevators. It wasn't a huge problem, but it is hard to move 500 people wherever they wish to go with only 3.
