How to Get There
Again I’m big on Serena properties and this one is a must stay. Rooms are the best and your view of the crater will stun you. Simply wonderful staff and a hats off to Elizabeth the hostess in the restaurant. Thank you as you made every meal a treat.
What a splendid experience to stay at this wonderful hotel. Our room overlooked the Ngorongoro crater - amazing vista just in front of our veranda. Rooms are uniquely decorated with cave paintings of animals on the walls and animal etchings on the headboards. Such a pleasant stay.
Everyone seems to be raving about the view, and I am not an exception. The view from the balcony, the restaurant and the bar is exceptional, unbelievable and breathtaking.
The hotel itself sits on the rim of the caldera, so you can see everything down there as if it was on the palm of your hand. Also, because it’s so high up, the air there is cool and crisp and there’s even a fireplace in the lobby! No mosquitoes so high up so no nets around the bed.
Dinner was excellent, great food in a beautiful setting. The service was also friendly and polite.
The evening entertainment was perhaps the only thing that left me wondering. The band singing was very good, I enjoyed them a lot and they too seemed to enjoy themselves. However the Maasai dancers looked a bit unhappy. The guys were all right but girls looked like they’d rather be anywhere else and it made me question whether they really want to be doing it. I felt a little sad for them and I hope they’re treated well as they looked beautiful and the songs and dances were interesting and exotic for us. However, I’d rather do without that than have someone perform against their will.
All in all we had a very good stay and the place felt truly special. Loved it and only wish we could have stayed longer.
We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the presidential suite with fruits and wine bottles and beautiful murals all over the walls. This property was our third serena property in tanzania and we were really hoping for something different. This is definitely different from the other ones because its perched on top of the crater with an incredible view.
Only thing that this place doesnt have, which is common in all the serena properties is not being accessible for wheelchairs. That is a reason I wouldnt do these again if someone in my group required one.
The fact that they customize the dinner for us in all of these properties makes the whole all inclusive piece quite palatable (pun intended). The buffet is ok, but when they make something you like its very special. It does take a while to get your food so be prepared for that.
Overall this is a beautiful property with some amazing views.
This lodge was by far the best of the Serena lodges we stayed at (Serengeti and Lake Manyara). The rooms were spacious and bathrooms much more spacious and modern than the other lodges. The rooms have great views of the crater and nice balconies to relax on.
The food was good and our special dietary requirements were catered for well.
We wish we could have stayed two nights instead of one to really make the most of the lodge.
This lodge was up to the mark of the Serena brand.
