How to Get There
The hotel is well situated and overlooks Ngorongoro Crater - a stunning view. The hotel is unique having been built of stones from the area. The Lodge is more like a hotel but it is a little 'tired' in décor and furnishings. Food at dinner and breakfast was good. The hotel is busy with several tours and not like other smaller camps in the Serengeti or at Ndutu that have a personal touch. For an overnight to game view in the Crater it is in a good location.
What a neat place. The lodge is very close to the edge of the crater so it did not take long to get down to the base. The lodge is a rustic type lodge but with upscale amenities. The views are incredible too - both from the bar area and from your room. Its just a neat and unusual lodge and we were there 2 nights. Good food too and very good service. Each night we would go outside onto the deck and look at the milky way.
This hotel sits at the top of the Ngorongoro crater and provides an incredible view of the crater. Every room of the hotel faces the crater and has its own private balcony.
The rooms are clean and spacious. The shower is huge.
The restaurant / bar is conveniently located at the midway point of the hotel. The bar offers a large outside terrasse on which it is great to look for the sunset.
The restaurant offers buffet diner and breakfast. Both seatings were very good in terms of food offering, which was diversified and tasty.
Hotel personnel spoke very good English.
If only for the view, this hotel is definitely worth staying at when visiting Ngorongoro crater.
Water is apparently included except when you want water with dinner, then they rip you off and start hassling you for it the next day at breakfast. Incredibly unprofessional and cheap. How do you charge for water in a country where you basically need it for everything including brushing your teeth? We literally had a guy stand over our table forcing us to sign a receipt and wouldn’t leave until we did. Every other lodge and hotel we stayed at had water included except for this dump and the SOPA lodges. I would suggest to avoid them if at all possible. Management needs to get a clue that you do not nickel and dime people for a basic necessity. Awful.
The staff here are hit or miss too, some are really nice and some look like they don’t even want to talk to you at times. Definitely not as warm as some of the other places we stayed at.
The rooms had a nice view but that’s about it. The bathrooms are a dump. They were literally too cheap to install a shower head.
We stayed at the Serena Lodge on New Years Eve which was a great experience! Excellent food super nice stuff and a great party in 2019! The views from the upper floor apartments are amazing ... the Krater is one of the most beautiful Natural landscapes we have ever seen! Book your table for breakfast at the window 😉
