Fantastic stay at One and Only Le Saint Geran
Reviewed 1 day ago

We were three couples staying at the hotel for 10 days. We are all amazed by the high standard of service at Saint Geran. The staff is extremely well trained and polite. The restaurants offer very good breakfast, lunch and dinners. We haven’t been dissapointed one single time. We have also enjoyed the sports facilities and especially the tennis courts. The local tennis-pro, Ashwin, has been very good to us and made our stay complete. We will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone at Saint Geran for making this stay truly memorable.

Visited here for my birthday, and my wife’s birthday with friends for a winter escape. This is our 4th visit to the hotel and the first since it’s big makeover. The hallway is the same but the rooms are amazing and well appointed. The terrace bar and restaurant is more modern with a lot of wood, but I preferred the old thatched style which I think had more character and suited the hotel. The new pool, bar, restaurant La Pointe is brilliant and a great use of the space available beside the helipad, and seems to proving popular, by the way it’s thatched!!
There are some negatives as we found the staff needed more training as we had a few issues with serving wine and forgetting orders. They are plenty of them and they are as friendly as they have ever been but lacked management oversight. One of my personal issues was when they put the wine on the side and you sit with an empty glass for ages, then as soon as you move to pick it up, someone comes running over and takes it from you. I also think for a lot of people the cost of the terrace buffet is expensive, it’s £90pp, and it is an amazing display but of you only want some pasta or a pizza, it’s very expensive.

Mostly good

For the most part this is a good hotel. It has a fantastic site on the end of a Small peninsula. The beaches are lovely, as are the views from most of the rooms; more on this point later. The pool area is small and we hardly used it. Also we were told that you had to pay an extra £230 to use one of the covered double beds for a day so we stuck to the loungers!

The hotel was celebrating its recent refurbishment and opening 42 years ago. The buildings are a bit blocky from the 1970’s.The refurbished rooms, although not my kind of colour scheme are obviously new, large and comfortable. The showers are fantastic. Also the supply of a complimentary bottle of Rum was nice with a coke at sundown.

The sports area has a gym which is second to none, new and full of equipment. The tennis courts also looked good. As a side note the hotel has got rid of its golf course and is building an exclusive set of homes on it. These home owners will, by all accounts be able to use all the hotel facilities.

Of the restaurants we found the Prime steakhouse to be the best. Although in the end it is just a steakhouse. The Asian restaurants by the lagoon was a confusing experience. I think there were three restaurants in one. A Japanese sushi area, Korean and one other. It was good but you ended up eating a confused menu. On saying that it did seem busy on the one night we visited. The main buffet area was ok. The service at the restaurants was generally very good, the head chef at the sushi area in the Asian restaurant deserves a special mention.

Our main problem was encountered at arrival however. Our check in seemed a bit awkward and communication was difficult. We had an itinerary from our agent for the flights and hotels and no vouchers. The staff were meant to photocopy our itinerary but it was difficult to get this through to the “customer recognition” agent? In the end they retained it and took it apart and did not return it until asked and then it took twenty minutes to get it back. The luggage also took an hour to an hour and a half to get to the room. Whilst the restaurant and beach staff were good the front desk never seemed quite right.

We had also booked a more expensive ocean view room. This room however did not have much of an Ocean view. Because of the way the buildings are staggered and their angle to the sea 20% of the ocean view was of a white wall and the rest was Palm trees. We moved, with effort, to the cheapest lagoon room which actually had a lovely view and was very quiet. The walk to the room was along a lovely garden area between blocks compared to the long and not very nice walk to the Ocean room.

All in all we enjoyed the St Geran but it was not perfect.

The Pointe - Beautifully friendly restaurant
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

An impromptu visit to the very famous resort was maybe one of the most unexpectedly favourite days I’ve had in a hotel environment.

We surprised our friends by booking lunch at the very relaxed but sophisticated restaurant called ‘The Pointe’. It was our friends birthday and we wanted to make it a special occasion for him so we wanted to take him to a special hotel / restaurant (we stayed in another resort on the island).

From the moment we entered the Saint Geran we were made to feel welcome and even though we weren’t staying in the hotel all the staff were so accommodating and friendly. This is such a lovely feeling, especially for a day guest and we whole heartedly appreciated this.

The food in the ‘The Pointe’ was delicious. They listened to all our requests and even brought a lovely cake out at the end for our friend.

The day was finished off perfectly with mojitos by the pool - arguably the best mojitos we’ve ever had! Such lovely accommodating staff. We will definitely come again and stay at the hotel. Much praise indeed.
