Home away from home
Reviewed 20 hours ago

I had the privilege of staying for over a month on a work assignment at theMerville beach resort in Grand Baie, Mauritius and I cant but just recall all the pleasant and happy faces I encountered there which made my month long trip feel like I had not had enough.
Right from Vikram the resort desk manager , Shivani Sawant at the reception to Anju the housekeeping staff , everyone was courtesy personified.
I will not think twice to stay at the Merville resort if an opportunity arises again and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay at a home away from home whilst visiting Mauritius.
Keep up the brilliance Merville.

A perfect place to relax and rejuvenate and have an awesome time.

We visited Merville in last week of June for a week stay with family. The place is just lovely. It provides combination of standard, superior and bungalow rooms. We stayed in Superior rooms with magnificent view of ocean on one side and garden view on other side. The place had a rustic look and was pleasant with greenery all around. The rooms are decently sized and have a balcony space.
The beach with resort is clean, sandy and long. You have the option to relax for whole day at the beach or get indulged in the activities provided by hotel at free of charge. The staff can also arrange other activities like parasailing, diving or jet ski at additional cost. The view of ocean from height is mind blowing and the water is so blue and clear that you can see the corals, fishes, etc. and have an awesome experience while swimming or snorkeling.
The best thing of Merville is their staff for which I would rate them 5 stars. All the staff like Zaid, Brad, Shivani, Anoushka, Jinala, Prakash, Spencer, and all others are warm, friendly and one step ahead to help you. Frankly speaking it’s their staff which made our stay most pleasurable.
Merville has only one restaurant but the food is nice. We are vegetarians and the staff ensured that we always have some veg options even on BBQ night. They even helped us by making special food at ones for our 10 month old baby. The hotel organizes some activities on daily basis which are also nice.

I would definitely recommend the place and would visit them again next time.

5* Service and Location
Reviewed 4 days ago

Just returned from a 2 week All Inclusive holiday (no wrist bands thankfully !) Had a fabulous time and couldn't praise the staff and service highly enough.

The hotel itself is in need of some updating but was clean and tidy and well maintained. What it lacks in plush furnishings and decor it more than makes up for in location and character. Our room was always made up and cleaned beautifully by our lovely Housekeeper Luxmi, who was always cheerful and sweet and would ask if everything was ok with our room.

We had an all inclusive package. Breakfast buffet was one of the best I have ever come across, huge selection of pretty much anything you could want. Delicious freshly made omelettes, waffles and pancakes & eggs to order if you wanted poached or fried.
Lunch if you wanted was anything off the lunch menu, which was anything from sandwiches & burgers to grilled chicken or pasta dishes. There was also delicious freshly made pizzas which you could have delivered to the beach if you wanted.
Dinner was a la carte menu or the buffet. There was a different theme every night but some nights were better than others if I'm honest. You will however always find something you like and you will never go hungry ! If I had to nit pick about the All Inc package, it would be the wine. The local beer and spirits were great but the local wine was a bit grim. We did order a bottle of wine from the menu a couple of times which was much better but very expensive (£40 a bottle).Cocktails were a bit sweet for my liking too, but thats just personal preference.

What sets this 3* hotel apart from others of the same rating is its location and staff, both are 5*. The beach is beautiful and quiet, never a problem getting sun bed, waiter service on the beach (shout out to Jasveer !), beautiful crystal blue and calm water and lovely sand. Ideal for kids & people who don't really like deep water or swimming in it as it shelves quite gradually. Water sports were great and plenty to choose from. My husband loved the paddle boards, but the peddlo was enough for me ! The guys at the boat house were always friendly and helpful.

Staff couldn't have been more pleasant & friendly, pretty much without exception they will all go out of their way to help you. Would like to particularly mention Vishni who works in the bar, she was fabulous and definitely management material. Lovely Khalida at the beach cabana, always greets you with a cheery smile and enjoyed chatting to her each morning when we went to get our towels and drinks. Everyone remembers your name and which room you're in always asks you how you are, if you're enjoying your stay.

Hotel is a 20 min walk from Grande Bai but there are taxi's right outside the hotel and the cost is about £3 into the town where there are shops and restaurants. No issues getting a taxi back either, plenty around.

We hired a car and saw a bit of the Island but were glad we were in Grand Bai. Got the Express Bus into Port Louis one day which was quite nice although other than the harbour area and some shops there's pretty much nothing else to do there. The boat trip we went on to the little Islands was great and that was booked through the hotel.

There is a very good restaurant next door called Poivrier which we went to one evening just for a change of scenery. Set in a little garden area, the food was excellent and wine very good too. It is only open on a Thurs, Fri and sat night so is advisable to book.

Would I recommend this hotel ? Yes most definitely. If I had to give some negatives I would really have to nit pic and say the local wine, dress code in the restaurant (I don't mind there being one, but if you have one either enforce it or get rid of it !) and the seats in bar and restaurant weren't particularly comfortable, but that would be it. to sum it up, beautiful place and beautiful people.
