How to Get There
It's with a heavy heart that we leave Mauritius tomorrow morning after a fantastic two weeks back at Merville Beach.
It was 17 years ago that we first discovered the island and have always wanted to return. We picked Merville Beach to return too, not because it's fancy and modern but it does have, without a doubt, some of the best customer service we've ever experienced.
After a 12 hour flight we'd arrived tired and pale, escaping the snow. Zaid welcomed us with a warmth that set us up for the whole holiday and we were surprised how quickly everyone seemed to know our name, remembering our villa number (400) and even remembering when we'd been out for a tour.... truly remarkable and only possible because there was a genuine interest in looking after us (Prakash the restaurant manager was a true gentleman and will be a loss for sure when he retires this year after 40 years with the company). It was my birthday whilst here and staff arranged a (free) surprise cake, and when I had a massage, they'd even left s birthday message written on a palm leaf in my locker.... all those little touches make you feel really welcome a spa a guest.
We understand that the resort is going to undergo a radical rebuild in July and will indeed become fancy and modern..... it will be a sight to behold I'm sure but for us, the people who work for the LUX company are what makes it great and we hope one day to see them again.
Lovely places and the bests service you can have. The garden and the beach is very good, you can do a lot of boat activity who is free. Our cleaner P make a good work and was very nice. All is nice!
You can take a walk or taxi to city of Grand Baie, 200 R
We have just returned from our Honeymoon at Merville Beach, we can not praise the staff and management enough, Tony was so attentive, his staff did him proud, Iqbal and the guys on reception were always there to help, Chanden, Nilesh, Kareena and Yash in the bar were so nice and always made us welcome and always had a cold Guinness and a Tequila sunrise ready !
Vishni (Mrs Davina) 😁 was always happy and greeted us from across the restaurant every morning, the boys in the boat house so efficient and always friendly, Jhurry on security was always smiling.
The rooms although in need of updating were clean and refreshed every day, but remember this is a 3 star but rooms aside you wouldn’t think so. The breakfast is good, something for everyone, the lunches are from a menu with table service, the pizzas are huge, maybe worth sharing, the curries are great quality. The evening buffet is good and again something for everyone, if you fancy a change go for the beach meal with table d’hote menu where the food is a notch up, there is an extra of 300rps per person for this but well worth it. Also don’t miss the Lobster night again an extra charge over the AI package but well worth it.
The Beach attached to the hotel is fantastic, plenty of sun beds and fresh towels daily. Mini bar is included in the AI and is refreshed daily. There is entertainment every evening. There are also numerous water sports included in the package.

This is our second visit to this hotel - we renewed our wedding vows 10 years ago and everything is pretty much the same as it was then apart from the new bar terrace area. The water sports guys are fabulous especially Faz and Raj - lovely guys! The bar staff are tremendous too. Although the rooms are still the same they are clean and have everything you need in them but really do need some modernising by now. It's a great area and you never struggle for a sun bed with the three lovely bays that surround the hotel. Entertainment is excellent and there's always stuff going on day and night! Our only bug bear (again) is the food. The breakfast and lunch are fabulous but the evening meal is let down drastically which is a shame. The salad bar isn't really a salad bar as there only ever seems to be cucumber and lettuce - I think tomatoes must be in short supply as you hardly ever see them. The main courses mainly consist of curry and rice with hardly any real change on that apart from the Italian night which again isn't great. Also the food isn't very hot and if it is even slightly warm by the time you've got back to your table it's cold! They really should invest in some up to date modern heating appliances to keep the food warm as this is a big let down! The cocktail party is good and the lobster night on the beach is also well worth the money. We also had an anniversary dinner on the beach which again was very good, great service and great food - just a shame the evening meal let's this hotel down.
