How to Get There
Booked this as a surprise 30th birthday for my partner, wanted it to be perfect and it was in every way, the only thing wrong was it wasn’t long enough. The accommodation, the food, the staff, everything was out of this world! I cannot speak highly enough about this beautiful hotel in this beautiful place. Perfection
Stayed there during our honeymoon trip and I am thoroughly happy to write something for them.
From the moment we arrived, it was just wow. We always felt that the staff is just eager to help us all the time without being too intrusive. For a foodie like, it was a paradise with tonnes of options. *smacks lips* The food at INTI & Creole Smokehouse & Palm Court was just great. The service and facilities were impeccable as well.
Overall a 5/5 for me.
This is a clean, modern hotel with helpful staff who are only interested in ensuring you have a great stay and will do their upmost to ensure you have a great holiday. The beaches are clean and attended.
We started out with such a great room which was good for people watching but ended up being a little noisy due to proximity to the main entertainment. Thankfully Berthy and Sandeep were able to help us with finding new accommodation which was further away.
I would have loved to give the hotel 5*s but the only letdown for me was the food, and as I consider myself a foodie type that was the only let down really. It’s priced at a premium too (they’re not alone in this on Mauritius), so it really should be better for the money.
They have a considerable breakfast buffet, which I found myself a bit lost as you wander around looking for things to eat. Perhaps, each of the stations would benefit from clearer demarkation, or naming like “Peking Corner” for the Asian section, make each look like a separate takeaway, this applies to the evening buffet also. Of course buffets work on speed of service and quantity over quality, but another improvement I think for the breakfast, common in good hotels, would be to offer some menu items, normally these are eggs dishes, but having them served fresh to the table would make a big improvement.
There was one evening when an expected dessert wasn’t available to me, after being enticed to try it by their Lux iPhone app. On hearing my disappointment at not finding mille-feuille, Dhiren invited us back the following night after he could ensure it was prepared by their pasty chef, who being french, means their desserts are pretty exceptional. A must try item is the Paris Brest..
Bodrum Blue restaurant, really I’m not sure what they were doing there, they have a nice smoker, and my kebab was tasty, but I’m confused why it was served with tortilla, something akin to South American cuisine rather than Turkey, and for some reason it didn’t quite come together for me, it’s missing the basics you would get from any cheap Turkish restaurant in London (or Turkey). It didn’t really work, and for the cost of their meals you expect something special rather than something lacklustre.
The burger shack makes some really nice burgers, although mine was a bit cold, you can see the lack of melted cheese in the photo provided, I’d recommend the chef to put cheese on the burger whilst it’s still on the grill so that the melt begins before heats removed by the salad.
Creole Smokehouse, let’s just say that after a first attempt, Thannen and Ravi really wanted to put it right, with our simple request that: “we want to eat Mauritian food the way that Mauritians eat it, full of flavour and full of spice”. They certainly delivered, this food was truly a delicious treat, we had both vegan and meat thalis, full of flavour and spice, the way it should be. And if you’re in this restaurant, make sure to try the banana tart with ginger ice cream, it’s a deal maker and it’s delicious. It feels a bit like the first attempt failed because the hotel wants to please as many people as possible, but from my foodie perspective, it’s better to do have distinctive flavoursome and memorable dishes than bland tasteless ones. Thannen says than in future they will ask guests about spice level when ordering, and that’s not just about Chili but all in flavour.
Final to comment on was the girls in the Lux* cafe. We were lucky enough to have barista training from Karuna and Angeli. Karuna is exceptionally passionate about delivering great service and quality coffee to customers and that pays off, she has an infectious positivity about her, so worth stopping by to get an energy boost, both positivity and from the caffeine.
All in all, next time I’m in Mauritius, this hotel would certainly be considered for another enjoyable stay, and hopefully some tweaked menus.
Definitely the best holiday we've had.
The Hotel is amazing, the service is amazing, special thanks too Yasser (Beach Rouge) for his services, and a big THANKS to all workers who made our special holiday unbelievable!
Urlaub auf höchstem Niveau. Lux Grand Gaube kann man nicht beschreiben, man muss es erleben! Sehr gerne wieder!
We went here on our honeymoon in June and had an incredible stay. The staff are amazing so friendly nothing is too much, in particular Reedoo from the beach team was absolutely wonderful! He made so much effort to make sure all of the guests had a great experience every single day, you could tell he really cared about the guests. He made us a flower display for our honeymoon, helped us to pick a boat trip to go on and recommended places to visit. He is amazing!! The food in all of the restaurants was fab and the service too! In particular Zaafir the ceviche at Inti was great. Couldn’t fault it at all! Highly recommend for a special holiday beautiful hotel and beautiful staff!
