Swank Egyptian sleep with a private beach, expansive pool complex and splurge-worthy spa on the Red Sea’s Soma Bay

The Lowdown

Fronting Soma Bay on the Red Sea, this Egyptian Kempinski outpost blends seamlessly into the arid landscape and wows guests with its ornate pillars, arches and expansive lagoon-style pool complex, which includes a lazy river flanked by inviting sunbeds. But here, the main attraction is the 1,312-foot private beach that’s dotted with palm trees, loungers and umbrellas. When hunger strikes, there are three restaurants to choose from that serve Mediterranean, Asian and Egyptian cuisine. And if you’re craving a libation, the outdoor Beachcomber Bar shakes up crafty drinks such as Arabic lemonade (fresh lime, fresh mint and sugar syrup). Elsewhere, the enormous 51,667-square-foot spa (one of the largest in the world) provides relaxation with Swedish treatments and underwater massages. All 291 guestrooms have garden or water views with Moorish architectural touches, tile floors and wood furniture; some have private balconies.

In the Area

Connected to the outside world by only a few paved roads, Safaga is a Red Sea town that brings coastal seclusion to a whole new level. With the resort’s lineup of restaurants and relaxation (waterview terrace dining and a 51,667-square-foot spa), stepping off-property might be tough. But anchor an afternoon with 7BFT Kitehouse and its flatwater Soma Bay kitesurfing that caters to professionals and beginners alike. Jump further in at Orca Dive Center, and take in the sanctity of jetty-launched inner and outer reefs. And for some land activities, 18 holes of Gary Player-designed golf beckon at Cascades Soma Bay.

Absolutely amazing - Top class and we will go back!

When we booked this trip down to Egypt with Apollo we didn't have such high expectations, we didn't know anything about Egypt and we thought it was a little strange that it was so cheap compared to other hotels, but we booked and we are really grateful for that. We can only agree with all the good reviews here on Tripadvisor.

We were there a week but would have gladly stayed two weeks. The hotel is fantastic in every way. It is super fresh and it is really cleaned thoroughly all the time. All staff are incredibly nice, we got the feeling that you are proud of their profession and perform it in the best way.

We booked with half board (breakfast and dinner included). The breakfast and dinner included were served in the restaurant "The view". Which is a cozy restaurant with a fantastic buffet, both for breakfast and dinner. Great variety and we never tired of the food. There are several restaurants in the area where you get a discount if you have a pension but (here is also a tip for Kempinski) the food at Buffet is so incredibly good so it was "unnecessary" to go to the restaurant we were in anyway. Here we thought we should have been able to choose which restaurant we wanted to eat and that was included.

The only "negative" is that the prices of drinks and food are like here at home in Sweden.

Tip. If you like to snorkel then there are small reefs right outside on your own beach, which is okay. Then the hotel has its own boat trip for snorkeling which costs 15 euros for something they call seven pills which is clearly worth testing. But the best snorkeling we got when we went to a long pier about: 1.5 km away towards the golf course. Definitely worth trying snorkeling there.

Fantastic 14 Night Stay in Soma Bay's prime hotel! Heaven on earth!

We followed a dear friend's recommendation and spent 2 weeks at what turned out to be one of the very best vacations ever! Very courteous and hard-working staff, among those being Mostafa from housekeeping, Mahmoud from the beach crew, Abdulla from the beach bar & restaurant and last but definitely not least dear Christine, our 'lady in red'! Many of the other guests we talked to during our stay have been to this property on several occasion, no wonder it IS amazing here in Soma Bay at Kempinski! Amazing buffet breakfast, great restaurants for lunch and sumptuous dinners night in and night out.made our stay an unforgettable one. The only point of criticism I would like to state concerns the levels of noise on several nights in the late evenings (after 11 p.m.), oftentimes making it difficult for my wife, my 1 yr old daughter and myself to sleep... We had booked a double room in the main building. Our room was located picture perfectly in the middle of the hotel on the first floor (sea view) but was also adjacent to the very noisy lobby hall. We would highly appreciate it if other hotel guests could quiet down or could be quieted down by hotel staff in the future. Other than that we'll be back soon in what we now call our home away from home!

All is wonderful!

my wife and I stayed 13 nights at this wonderful hotel and would definitely come back again. It all started with the warm welcome from Mr. Megahed Ahmed, His demeanour was very calm and respectful and had a lot of class the way he carried himself. He was also very helpful in organizing our day trip to Luxor as well as the snorkelling trip. All of the staff at the hotel were always smiling and very friendly and that is something that my wife and I cherished a lot! What I found to be a good idea is that you were able to communicate per Whatsapp with the front desk...in my case, Lina was very helpful and kind in organizing a softer pillow for me and my wife.

I am currently at this hotel halfway through my 8 days holiday. I do not know where to start with how much I love this place! Firstly all staff offer exceptional service - I haven’t met one single member of staff who is anything but helpful and polite with excellent English language. The food is exquisite- I am following a healthy eating plan and have been able to eat beautifully healthily - every meal has been wonderful. I booked half board and I am enjoying sometimes lunch at the beach bar and sometimes by the pool. My room has sea view as requested and is huge - with a fridge and kettle, and is topped up daily with bottles of water. The swimming pool is heated and spotless, and the lazy river and outdoor jacuzzi are beautiful. All the grounds are kept so clean. I am enjoying using the gym every morning and the spa area has another quiet pool - for adults only. The private beach is perfect - soft sand and crystal clear water - the men on the beach bring towels and water as you arrive. You can choose either the family side or adults only. The snorkelling at this beach is superb too! There is nothing I don’t like and I will be returning over and over again. I feel like I have found my own piece of heaven and I really don’t ever want to leave!!
