Overview

Swank Egyptian sleep with a private beach, expansive pool complex and splurge-worthy spa on the Red Sea’s Soma Bay

The Lowdown

Fronting Soma Bay on the Red Sea, this Egyptian Kempinski outpost blends seamlessly into the arid landscape and wows guests with its ornate pillars, arches and expansive lagoon-style pool complex, which includes a lazy river flanked by inviting sunbeds. But here, the main attraction is the 1,312-foot private beach that’s dotted with palm trees, loungers and umbrellas. When hunger strikes, there are three restaurants to choose from that serve Mediterranean, Asian and Egyptian cuisine. And if you’re craving a libation, the outdoor Beachcomber Bar shakes up crafty drinks such as Arabic lemonade (fresh lime, fresh mint and sugar syrup). Elsewhere, the enormous 51,667-square-foot spa (one of the largest in the world) provides relaxation with Swedish treatments and underwater massages. All 291 guestrooms have garden or water views with Moorish architectural touches, tile floors and wood furniture; some have private balconies.

In the Area

Connected to the outside world by only a few paved roads, Safaga is a Red Sea town that brings coastal seclusion to a whole new level. With the resort’s lineup of restaurants and relaxation (waterview terrace dining and a 51,667-square-foot spa), stepping off-property might be tough. But anchor an afternoon with 7BFT Kitehouse and its flatwater Soma Bay kitesurfing that caters to professionals and beginners alike. Jump further in at Orca Dive Center, and take in the sanctity of jetty-launched inner and outer reefs. And for some land activities, 18 holes of Gary Player-designed golf beckon at Cascades Soma Bay.

Good , could be great

Beautiful hotel , standard room is nice . Good service , cleaning of the room and building in general . Good level of maintenance . Good fitness and spa (adults only). More then enough sunbeds around the pool or on the beach . Beach divided in two areas (family - Adults only) which is excellent In general fairly quiet hotel even when fully booked . Most of the guest are distinghuished and well educated . Dinner could be better , dishes sometimes tasteless . Especially preparation of fish was an issue , again tasteless and raw most of the time . (Chef seemed to have litlle patience ) In March we went to an All inclusive hotel Sahl Hasheesh " Premier le Rêve " and food was much better (One would expect better food in an half board hotel ).
Cocktails , wine are a bit expensive . Lower the price would attract more people and generate far more profit .
A big issue is screaming , spoiled children in the restaurant . Nowadays parents don't care about good manners or education which is extremely annoying to others . Yes children should be able to play but not during breakfast or dinner . A solution would be to provide a separate area for families in the restaurant . Furthermore it is extremely rude to let your children scream throughout the live music in the evening .
It is obvious that adults only hotels , restaurants will do very well in the future .

I have been to other hotels in Hurghada and this is the one who has the highest standard in terms of staff training, services and premise maintenance.
The food is quite good however they could add a bit more variety and surprises. After a few days, you get bored of the same food every day.
The beach is great, there is a no reservation of sunbeds until 10:00 which is enforced by the staff. Also they will remove your belongings if you leave you beds more than 90 Minutes. I find the system is very good because they ensure that everyone gets a nice space. The beach staff even escorts you to find a spot and arranges the beds to you comfort. They will also carry your towels and bring you complementary water. Alaa the beach supervisor is great and is very good in handling the guest who are not happy when there belongings have been removed from their chairs because of the no reservation policy. The beach Also has an adult only side, which is great. The sea is great with an amazing coral reef that you can reach even walking in the shallow part of the beach! You can spot so many colorful and beautiful fishes like emperor Angelfishes, Picasso triggerfish, blue spotted ray, wonderful corals in good health.
I wish I could have visited the desert and the bedouins but the hotel only offers private tours for 250 euros a car and no group tours. Other thing to know about this hotel is that I would say 90 percent of the guests are German. The staff even speaks German.
Soma bay is very agréable because you can walk on the beach even to the nearby hotels. It is quite small but feels not so constructed and High standard hôtels.

Top notch hotel! Amazing service, amazing food, amazing outdoor facilities- especially for adults!
This is the only concern we had, travelling with a 5 and 3 year old child, that when you spend that crazy amount of money building such a high end resort, why not then spend just another percentage on something the kids would love- apart from the indoor play rooms. You don't travel 4000 km to put your kids inside a building and then go to the beach yourself. So an outdoor playground with some water facilities would be welcome- besides from the small childrens pool. Other than that and a stolen shirt from our veranda on the ground floor everything was really quite outstanding!
