Swank Egyptian sleep with a private beach, expansive pool complex and splurge-worthy spa on the Red Sea’s Soma Bay

The Lowdown

Fronting Soma Bay on the Red Sea, this Egyptian Kempinski outpost blends seamlessly into the arid landscape and wows guests with its ornate pillars, arches and expansive lagoon-style pool complex, which includes a lazy river flanked by inviting sunbeds. But here, the main attraction is the 1,312-foot private beach that’s dotted with palm trees, loungers and umbrellas. When hunger strikes, there are three restaurants to choose from that serve Mediterranean, Asian and Egyptian cuisine. And if you’re craving a libation, the outdoor Beachcomber Bar shakes up crafty drinks such as Arabic lemonade (fresh lime, fresh mint and sugar syrup). Elsewhere, the enormous 51,667-square-foot spa (one of the largest in the world) provides relaxation with Swedish treatments and underwater massages. All 291 guestrooms have garden or water views with Moorish architectural touches, tile floors and wood furniture; some have private balconies.

In the Area

Connected to the outside world by only a few paved roads, Safaga is a Red Sea town that brings coastal seclusion to a whole new level. With the resort’s lineup of restaurants and relaxation (waterview terrace dining and a 51,667-square-foot spa), stepping off-property might be tough. But anchor an afternoon with 7BFT Kitehouse and its flatwater Soma Bay kitesurfing that caters to professionals and beginners alike. Jump further in at Orca Dive Center, and take in the sanctity of jetty-launched inner and outer reefs. And for some land activities, 18 holes of Gary Player-designed golf beckon at Cascades Soma Bay.

Another fantastic stay
Reviewed 4 days ago

This was our 5th stay here and, as previously, they have excelled themselves. There is nothing that’s too much trouble and, even if you do have a problem or find something not quite right, they do their utmost to resolve ASAP. Staff remember us, probably because we get to know them and don’t treat them as servants, and interact in a friendly but polite way. Chefs will go out of their way to show their skills and we even had a previous visit dish cooked especially for us when we asked if it was on the buffet rotation this visit! If you want all inclusive ‘fats & tats’ style holiday don’t go here. This is relaxing super service in a luxury hotel better suited to adults but has welcomed children with lots of touches like play area, children’s buffet etc. Not for us at the moment but looking forward to taking new grandson in a couple of years time.
We use Orca Dive club just 10 mins walk or free bus away which is also superb. Lots of laughs but underneath safety comes first so they always notice if someone has kit not quite right before they jump in.

Outstanding Quality

This is our second visit to Kempinski Soma Bay, this time with our almost 4YO. I will begin by saying this place is a magnificent gem. It has kept well over the years, and it proved to be not only a serene getaway but also surprisingly family friendly.

There are two kids clubs with super caring staff who carry out a daily schedule of activities that keep the little ones happy and feeling special.

Breakfast and dinner buffets have a kids section with good variety, as well as options for the health conscious (Gluten Free bread and bakeries, home made low sugar jams, peanut butter...to name a few!)

We've had a few mishaps on our way to Soma Bay which caused us a two day unexpected delay, to which The hotel management was perfectly understanding and accommodating and even offered us a room upgrade at a discount.

The kids pool is amazing, so are the other pools. A nice surprise was a big box of beach toys at the beach, very thoughtful! So next time we won't be carrying ours all the way from Cairo. Music and cocktails by the beach one afternoon were super nice.

My son got a fever towards the end of our stay, and we found the nearby pharmacy very convenient, it's practically almost on the hotel grounds.

Quality of service is unmatched in Egypt. Overall we are having a great stay and would definitely return.

Absolutely faultless

I stayed for 10 nights on a full board basis with my wife and 5 year old daughter.

From the checking in to checking out it was 100% service from from all staff and management.
1. Beautifully equipped rooms with a balcony, great spacious bathroom and large comfy bed, the room service staff were extremely efficient in several areas to maintain a high standard of cleanliness to the room.
2. There’s only one bar area for drinks with an outside area including evening entertainment with a variation on the act each evening, again service from the staff is spot on.
3. Restaurants are clean with great food, if you don’t see what you want then just ask, again top service and a special thank you to Anton who always watched over things with a eye to see an issue and an ability to deal with it in a kind and professional way.
4. Lovely beach with plenty on sun loungers with waiter service, great place to relax, there’s various pools and a lazy river plus kids pool, clean tidy and safe.
5 conclusion for us is a great family friendly hotel as you’d expect from kempinski, the management are clearly genuinely committed to 1st class service, I can highly recommend and will return this year.
Thanks again guys

We stayed for 4 nights, a group of friends with total of 10 kids

Overall it’s an amazing hotel that I would certainly come back to it and I would call it my favorite vacation spot in Egypt till now

1- we arrived and were greeted by nice cold towels and a refreshing drink. Team at the front desk were very professional and we got checked in to our room in less than 15 min.

2- room is very spacious and nice with breathtaking view. Bed is very comfortable and they had a small real bed for my 6 years old daughter in that didn’t affect the functionality of the room. I have a minor issue with the housekeeping though. They come once a day and would do the room in less than 5 min. So of course they will do only the very basic obvious tasks like making the bed and clean the bins. Otherwise nothing in the room will be done or tidying up. I had a spoon used in making tea found it as it is on the tray another cup beside the tub exactly as is my daughter had her toys on the sofa found them exactly as we left as well as any clothes I will find then untouched. I was able to see dust accumulated on the table lower parts and behind the tv. They will certainly do the obvious things and that is all. Let me say that with the amazing level of service I have seen at this hotel I would expect housekeeping to be at a much higher level. Some few maintenance is also needed like tv remote that doesn’t work and a tare in the sofa that again doesn’t match the very high level we have seen everywhere else

3- pool is very nice just be careful moving from the hot tub back to the pool because the floor is smooth and it gets very slippery a friend of ours slipped and hurt her head badly on the ground. I highly suggest the hotel will change this floor to be rough as the rest of the pool area.

4- beach is amazing and service there is very nice. If u get hungry I would recommend trying their food. Chicken fingers were over cooked but everything else was just fine

5- love having access to cold water in the pool and the beach specially with the hot weather it was very important to not get dehydrated.

6- restaurant. Food was great every night we would find 2 or 3 highlights on the hot stations with great taste and very sweet service attitude. Buffet is very well presented and everything is done at a high level and quality.

First night we dinned outside and I wasn’t a big fan of the service probably they were few waiters to serve the whole area including a large group like ours. Later we moved in and waiters were just great.

The restaurant was kids friendly where they had a buffet just for the kids with plastic plates and everything at their convenience all our kids loved that.

There was also a very nice kids area where kids were able to go an play after finishing their food. Unfortunately that was closed by the 3rd day and they didn’t arrange for alternative.

7- kids club had in average one lady who felt overwhelmed with many kids. I think it is highly recommended to have at least 2 ladies to be with kids. Some of us stayed in with the kids to help out. But I guess that is not the management strategy

8- finally I would certainly come back to this hotel. I would highly encourage all my friends to visit and I hope by next visit all the good things stay good and the negative notes are resolved

Don’t forget to visit the shop there. This guy is very nice with amazing prices
