When Anantara’s first hotel in Oman opened in 2016 on the edge of the rocky Saiq Plateau, it became the highest five-star hotel in the Middle East—and, instantaneously, one of the best cliffside hotels in the world. Of the 115 accommodations, the Cliff Pool Villas feature private infinity pools that jut out precariously over the mountain rim, 6,500 feet above sea level. There’s a public infinity pool for everyone else; when not taking a dip or chowing down on Omani and international cuisine at own of the resort’s six restaurants, head to the spa for decadent treatments, to the kitchen for a cooking class, or to the Hajar mountain range for a heart-pumping climb.

How to Get There
We have spent a fantastic vacation in this beautiful resort for the second time already ! Rooms, Service, food is excellent!!!
Thanks to George Farouk and Dagmar for taking care of us and making our stay unforgetable again ….You both are doing a great job! We definitely will come back !
We stayed here for 7 days to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in early February and I can honestly say it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The whole experience was absolutely second to none.
We had a first floor cannon view room which had a breathtaking view and the smell of roses from the room came home with us on all our clothes which was such a beautiful reminder of our stay with you.
The room was beautifully cleaned and refreshed each day and we were provided with everything we could possibly need.
The food was amazing at each and every meal, always beautifully presented and delicious.
All the staff were so kind and helpful and soon got to know us and our preferences. I would like to give a special mention to Mohammad in the main restaurant, he was always so attentive and friendly and looked after us so well.
The spa was also a wonderfully tranquil place. We both had treatments but were also able to go on a couple of other occasions to just make use of the fabulous facilities. Totally indulgent in every way.
If we ever have the opportunity to come back we would without question.
Thank you for looking after us so well.
This wonderful resort is situated at about 2000 m, and at a 2 hour drive with 4x4 from Muscat Airport. We asked the hotel to take care of driving us from the airport to the resort.
It overlooks the Al Jabal Al Akhdar mountain that belongs to the Al Hajar Mountain range.
It is incredibly quiet.
Staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient, at the reception and everywhere else in the hotel.
There is free, fast and reliable WiFi throughout in the hotel. One benefits of complimentary subscription on PressReader, which made it possible to have a premium choice of world class newspapers or magazines.
Our beautiful room (standard canyon view) was spacious with separate place for luggage, clothes and safe.
The bathroom department was gorgeous with bath, shower, toilet, washing basins in granite ( I think); soap, shampoo, bath gel, etc. galore.
The room had a king bed, desk with chair, a TV-set, a cupboard with fridge, Nespresso machine (complimentary choice of cups), complementary bottles of water, tea, ... you name it.
There is also a large ottoman and a round table.
Our room was kept impeccable by mrs Mamata, who also made some playful creations with towels. Amazing !
There is one annoying point : one can’t switch off the bed post lamps individually. So, if one already wants to sleep, and the other one still wants to read a few pages : impossible. Too much light, which is quite the opposite of most hotel rooms around the world.
There are more than enough electric outlets for charging iPhone, iPad, MacBook, .. all at the same time.
There is air-con and heating.
On the terrace : table, chairs and a settee.
Breakfast buffet is delicious and more than enough. The same is true for dinner.
Food is not only very palatable, but is visually often a piece of art. It is unbelievable what the cooks create.
There is a small, but good, choice of wines. These can be expensive, but at least you can enjoy a good glass of wine.
There are three restaurants : Arabic menus, à la carte, and the main restaurant.
There is also a bar with a good choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Fortunately there is a very modern and well equipped gym, where one can try to get rid of some of the calories one accumulated during the meals.
There is an outdoor swimming pool; however as we stayed there during the January month, the water temperature was too low.
There is a spa, where one enjoys sauna or steam bath (free of charge) and possibility of (paying) massage.
All in all, an extremely enjoyable experience.
We stayed there for nine nights because we wanted to escape the work hustle and bustle, in which we succeeded.
It is a bit far from everything but it is a beautiful stop, for a couple of days, on an Oman round tour, which we made a few years ago. But then, the hotel didn’t exist yet.
visited a couple of nights with husband and kid, all was very nice; the surroundings, the hotel itself, very spacious rooms, good food and friendlly staff. We have B&B only but ended up eating at the hotel as there is really nothing else available in the area, so we'd recommend to book in half board
The Anatara is an amazing place to stay. The warm reception by George and the team was one of the most welcoming ones we ever got. Room was ready even when we arrived early in the morning and we could even join the breakfast buffet that morning. What a good way to start.
We stayed for 7 nights and we enjoyed every day of our stay. Tanveer and his Team from the restaurant did an amazing job when it comes to service. We really enjoyed every meal. Also a big thank you to our room attendant Dinesh who took care of our room.
I highly recommend this hotel for everyone who is looking for a unique place to stay in the mountains with outstanding service.
