The Lowdown

When Anantara’s first hotel in Oman opened in 2016 on the edge of the rocky Saiq Plateau, it became the highest five-star hotel in the Middle East—and, instantaneously, one of the best cliffside hotels in the world. Of the 115 accommodations, the Cliff Pool Villas feature private infinity pools that jut out precariously over the mountain rim, 6,500 feet above sea level. There’s a public infinity pool for everyone else; when not taking a dip or chowing down on Omani and international cuisine at own of the resort’s six restaurants, head to the spa for decadent treatments, to the kitchen for a cooking class, or to the Hajar mountain range for a heart-pumping climb.

Was a 2 day complete get away where I felt pampered at every turn .... nothing was too much for the staff to do.The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Audrey one of the managers was extremely friendly and helpful.

Even at reduced Ramadan rate, not worth the cost

First, our room was not clean. We had to call the housekeeping to completely clean our room again and change the bed sheets which had hairs on them and remove the dust from the room (though they did not remove it all). Second, one of the phones was broken in the room which woke us up with a persistent and loud beeping noise at 3AM, a very unprofessional and unfortunate experience for such an expensive luxury resort. Also, the food was not good or up to quality standards, both breakfast and dinner which were included provided a limited selection of low quality products that is not consistent with such a luxury resort. Many indications showed that the property was not well maintained, despite being only about three years old, such as the chipped tiles in the pool that were not replaced. The pool towels were also not fresh and smelled moldy and the lifeguards on duty at the pool did not make foreign guests feel comfortable, especially since they are fully clothed while guests are walking around in their swimming suits. The limited services provided as a result of Ramadan were also not a welcome surprise as we were told by Booking.com that no restaurants would be closed and that the only difference would be that we could not eat outdoors, but this was not the case. Overall, the experience was disappointing and over-priced.

Luxury accommodation with great service.
Stayed in a one bedroom garden pool villa. Rooms very well laid out and great attention to detail.
Had both the dinner and breakfast buffets at the Al Maisan restaurant. Quality and range of food very good with a focus on Omani cuisine for dinner.
Staff very friendly and helpful

Simply amazing

This is one of those places!! Likely one of the most special hotels you will stay at in your lifetime...you have to visit this place to understand what I mean.
The experience starts when you take the transfer at the bottom of the mountains that will take you up to the hotel. The setting of the hotel is unique and the views breath-taking. The restaurante is smart and the food carefully prepared. The staff is smart, kind and impeccably trained.
If you are hesitating...just go, even if it's just for one night! It will be memorable.
