              About your stay

              By Melanie Nayer, Jetsetter Correspondent

Dark wood furniture and red velvet accents set the mood in this 1920s boutique hotel, a throwback that nods to Old Hollywood glamour. Named for one the city’s top French restaurants of that time, the Hotel Elysee was once a favorite of New York’s rich and famous. Today the 100-room spot hosts travelers looking for a great location and locals power-lunching at Graydon Carter’s Monkey Bar.

              What we love

              • Throwback vibe
              • The hotel’s Monkey Bar restaurant is a hot spot for New York’s elite
              • Steps away from Manhattan’s best shopping on Fifth, Madison and Park avenues
              • Guests can request a featherbed for their mattress at no additional charge when they arrive
              • Windows in the guestrooms actually open
              • Complimentary WiFi

              What to know

              • Streetside rooms and deluxe rooms are located on lower floors that face the street, which can get noisy
              • Geared toward couples, not families
              • Monkey Bar typically requires reservations
              • No on-site fitness center, but guests of the hotel get passes to nearby New York Sports Club
