In the rolling hills of the Italian countryside where southern Tuscany meets Lazio and Umbria, Poggio Piglia is an intimate, yet modern, retreat. Painstakingly restored over seven years, the nine-bedroom property blends charming original features, including rustic fireplaces and exposed brick detail, with high-design furnishings and modern artwork. Just over the hill from the glorious Val d'Orcia, with Renaissance hilltop towns Pienza and Montepulciano close by, Poggio Piglia is the perfect base for your Tuscan adventure.

the beautiful setting, the great bathroom. fantastic stay overall. would very highly recommend.
What I disliked
nothing to complain about really-- if i had to pick something, it would be that the sound insulation wasn't great, but this seems typical in Italy

Couldn't have asked for a more picturesque, immaculate hotel. The staff are incredibly helpful and felt like friends by the time we left. The food is top notch and its in a great location. Will definitely visit again.

The location is great for day tripping around Tuscany. The hotel has a beautiful setting and views. The breakfast is small but adequate. The bathrooms are beautiful and well appointed. The bed was firm but comfortable. There were screens on the windows, which is unusual for Europe. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
What I disliked
At breakfast it would have been nicer to have a carafe of coffee instead of having to ask for a cup every time we wanted one. After 2 cups they charged you additional. The shower was difficult to operate and the hot water seemed to run out for three of my showers. Our room was a bit small and dark, even with the shutters open. There were no drawers in the cabinet just big doors and shelves to put clothes on, but the lighting was so bad that it was hard to see what was in the cupboard at times. The pillows could have been nicer. There is some strange rule that they don't have any air conditioning in May so some nights were very warm even with the windows open. We were on the third floor and it is a walk up, so I wouldn't take too many bags. Not for handicapped people.

The location was beautiful and the hotel itself was also lovely. Staff was hospitable and very helpful.
What I disliked
The pool was not open during our stay and the restaurant had no chef-- it would have been nice to know that in advance.

Great bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs and large glass showers are ultra luxe. Friendly staff that makes terrific recommendations for dining that gets you off the tourist path. Felt like home away from home. Set back well away from the road so all you hear are the birds chirping. The best cappucinos anywhere!
What I disliked
We went in June and since this is out in the country, you can expect to see mosquitoes. The doors in the main lodge are kept open to circulate the air, but that also allows bugs to come in. Vents in bottom of doors to rooms let in some light and noise (depending on how quiet your neighbor is when they retire for the evening). Breakfast buffet was delicious, but better care could be taken from a food safety perspective- cold things should remain cold and need to be checked frequently.

Everything. The property was elegant and beautiful; the view was spectacular; the owners and staff (special shout out to Imma and Paolo and Marta) were lovely, helpful and accommodating. My husband and I would return there in a heartbeat!
