Opened in December 2010, The Sebastian puts a sparkling new twist on mountain luxury. From the hotel’s entrance along the pedestrian-only Bavarian-style byways of Vail Village, passers-by are drawn in to marvel at the towering glass-encased lobby, and also perhaps to enjoy a Scotch or a hand-crafted cocktail at the hotel’s popular signature bar, Frost. The hotel puts its guests in the heart of the four-season action here, from the mountains to the social scene of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

              What we love

              • The Jetsetter rate includes a welcome amenity and waived resort fee
              • The heated outdoor pool has four hot tubs, a waterfall feature and a firepit
              • The full-service Bloom Spa is a worthy addition to the Vail spa scene
              • Guests can make use of the personalized concierge, on-mountain ski service and two Chevy Suburbans for trips outside the village
              • Market Café offers everything from pastry and breakfast sandwiches to in-room gourmet dining
              • The fitness center is quite large

              What to know

              • The in-the-heart-of-things location means that there can be some noise and crowds right outside the hotel
              • Although perhaps best-known for skiing, Vail is a four-season city, with lots of events and activities year-round
              • Valet-only parking is $25 a night, which is the same as a full day in a municipal parking garage
              • Paying a little more to fly into Eagle County Regional Airport (35 miles west of Vail) can spare you the long drive from Denver (100 miles over two high mountain passes)

              Why to go

              • Adventure
              • Mountains
              • Food & Wine

              The Sebastian Vail

              Jetsetter review

The popularity of Vail stems from the fact that, as mountain resorts towns go, it can be all things to all people. With a well-developed area of restaurants and shops, it makes for an excellent vacation for those less interested in exploits on the slopes or along the trails.

In the last decade, with competition mounting from areas like Whistler, Deer Valley and Aspen, Vail has embarked on a redevelopment renaissance that has seen billions of dollars pumped into new hotel, residential and retail projects. The Sebastian, owned by Timbers Resorts, stands out as part of the remaking of one of the nation’s top ski towns.

The heated outdoor pool has four hot tubs, a waterfall feature and a firepit.
The newly renovated and expanded hotel has 100 rooms and seven suites decorated in traditional alpine style, with solid wooden furnishings, natural stone countertops and warm, fluffy duvets. The amenities are up to date, with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines and complimentary WiFi included.

The hotel blends the exclusivity of a town like Vail with the traditional buzzing energy of a ski resort. Its location makes it an excellent base for an ever-increasing itinerary. However, the Sebastian is so loaded with amenities – fine dining at Block 16, a full-service spa, fitness center and pool – that guests can easily spend a rewarding day at the resort without ever setting foot outside.

Although best known as a ski town, Vail has lots of activities and events year-round, like golf (there are many championship courses in the area), summer mountain biking on the ski slopes and a free concert series. The Sebastian's on-location concierge can provide full information and plan tee times or anything else you need for an outing — no matter what the time of year.

              What to do

              • Bowl. A short stroll from The Sebastian – Vail, the Solaris Vail offers high-tech bowling and nightlife at Bol, and dinner and a movie at the same time at Cinebistro.
              • Explore. Ride the Eagle Bahn Gondola back up the mountain for more spectacular sunset-over-the-Rockies views and a slew of family activities at Adventure Ridge (open Tuesday through Saturday), including kids snowmobiling, tubing, bungee trampolining and more (open year-round).
              • Golf. The Vail Golf Club, usually home to an 18-hole golf course at 8,200 feet, morphs into the Vail Nordic Center in the winter, where the highly affordable nordic sports of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing offer serenity from the slopes. Either way you slice it, you’ll get amazing views of Vail’s Gore Range.
              • Listen. The Bud Light Street Beat free concert series gets locals and tourists alike out in the streets and grooving to a wide variety of free jams.
              • See. The more discerning patron of the arts should be sure to catch a show at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Vail’s tony sister resort, Beaver Creek. The Vilar Center is a state-of-the-art theater situated near a year-round ice-skating rink, and it plays host to big-name musical acts, comedians and theater productions.

Beautiful resort, prime location, very nice staff

                What I disliked

Room wasn't as big as I thought it might be. It was pretty much a standard size but for the price would have expected it to be a little larger. Also the tub was a normal soaker tub not a jacuzzi tub.

                nice.

                What I disliked

I really liked my room, but I was not on the sunny side

and my room did not have any natural light.

The Sebastian is a very well-designed hotel. It looks great and has a lot of wonderful amenities: from the multiple hot tubs, to the intriguing outdoor seating area centered around a table exuding fire, to the fresh-baked pastries in the room every day). What makes the experience the best though is the great customer service (a letter from the First Lady displayed at the front desk thanking them for their out-of-the-way service is a nice touch). I would heartily recommend this hotel as THE place to stay in Vail.

                What I disliked

                Nothing.

Great location, beautiful inside and out. Excellent service provided by adults who have obviously spent time in the hospitality industry. We needed a late checkout and they were eager to accommodate. Comfortable beds and sumptuous bedding; no joke! Very high end look and feel. The hotel is beautifully furnished with art pieces, smartly designed with elegant rooms as well as alcoves like the library to get away and relax. Elegant restaurant for dinner as well as a great little deli for breakfast or a light lunch.

Lovely hotel, situated just right in Vail to activities. Nice quiet room, with nice amenities. Really nice lobby, fun hotel!

                What I disliked

Window faced another building so no view other than a tiny view either side of that bldg. Would rather park my car myself than have valet parking.
