Just outside the resort enclave of Nusa Dua, Villa Kubu spreads out over seemingly endless space. The modernist mansion spans 7,500 square feet, with sleek, unbroken lines and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. Outside, the views over the Indian Ocean extend as far as the eye can see from the cascading edge of the 27-foot infinity pool.
The villa’s decor cleverly uses repetition and reflection to add to the immeasurable impression of the house. A row of lime-green pillows evenly accents a long indigo couch in the great common room, and headboards of patterned mirrors lengthen the bedrooms. The real secret to the vast feel of Kubu, though, is the ocean view from every room.
Kubu is the largest of several homes sheltered in the Heavenly Residence complex. It’s not for travelers looking to immerse themselves in Balinese culture. But your live-in butler can arrange biking or snorkeling trips around the island. And nearby golden sand beaches and torchlit restaurants at neighboring resorts offer a superlative taste of the island’s famous chill-out vibe.

The villa has shared spaces on all three levels.
On the east coast of Bali, Nusa Dua is filled with upscale resorts, golden sand beaches and not much else. The postcard scenes of mountain peaks, local temples and terraced rice paddies are miles away, but this tourist enclave is the right place to be pampered.
