              Hacienda Oceanfront

              Santa Barbara, California

              About the home

              By Elizabeth Woodson, Jetsetter Correspondent

              This hotel is Jetsetter verified

Our editors have been here and it has met our standards.

The Skinny In Santa Barbara, on a coastal bluff overlooking the Pacific, this four-bedroom estate epitomizes California beach house living.

The Look This single-story Spanish colonial combines vaulted wood-beam ceilings, adobe fireplaces and terra-cotta floors with modern fixtures — including six (count them) flat-screen HD televisions, a Wolf gas range and a treadmill.

Would Suit Bring the brood: The villa has a lofted bedroom that can be outfitted with three Twins and a man cave–like guesthouse, ideal for an angsty teenage son.

Room to Nab Most rooms have ocean views, but the master bedroom has a wall of French doors that open onto a patio, where you can ogle the Pacific and the Channel Islands in private.

The Wow Watching the sun set over the Pacific from an Adirondack chair on the stone patio at the cliff’s edge.

              What we love

              • Oceanfront location and private beach access
              • Elaborate outdoor spaces, including a thatch-roofed palapa, with a giant flat-screen TV
              • The Spanish colonial design is befitting the setting
              • With multiple living areas, there’s plenty of wiggle room
              • The property can arrange for a personal chef

              What to know

              • There’s a minimum stay of three nights
              • The villa sleeps eight adults but can fit 10 with kids
              • A $600 fee per stay (regardless of length of stay) will be collected upon checkout from Jetsetter; includes daily housekeeping
              • It’s a steep climb down to the beach
              • You’ll need a car to get around

              Setting

In a gated community in Santa Barbara, this oceanfront estate has a prime blufftop perch and unimpeded Pacific Ocean views.

              • The villa’s manicured grounds span one and a half acres
              • There’s a heated pool (complete with cascading waterfalls) and a Jacuzzi with a view
              • A private (and rather steep) path leads down to the beach

              Bed & Bath

There are four bedrooms, three in the main house and one in a separate studio guesthouse.

              • In the master bedroom, a wall of French doors open onto a garden patio
              • The guesthouse is the man cave of the property, with red leather couches and a zebra-print rug
              • The loft bedroom can be fitted with a King and a Twin or three Twins

              Common Areas

Living areas bring the outside in with huge picture windows and sliding glass doors.

              • The rustic-chic kitchen has an enormous wood-topped island and a Wolf range
              • The guesthouse has a game room with a treadmill, pool table and soda machine
              • There are multiple indoor sitting areas, but why not lounge beneath the thatch-roofed palapa?

              About the area

The so-called American Riviera is home to five-star hotels, seven-figure mansions and A-list celebs, yet at its core, Santa Barbara is a laid-back beach town. And a new downtown scene — with low-key wine bars, food trucks and a restored drive-in movie theater — mean there’s something for everyone.

The so-called American Riviera is home to five-star hotels, seven-figure mansions and A-list celebs, yet at its core, Santa Barbara is a laid-back beach town. What to do

              • Eat. The Boathouse at Hendry’s Beach is the place to go to watch the sunset — over fruity cocktails and fried local calamari. For tacos, try Lilly’s, La Super Rica or Palapa (tied for the best Mexican in town).
              • Drink. Santa Barbara’s wine country is less robust than that of Napa or Sonoma, but no less impressive. Here, in the relatively cool climate, it’s all about pinots and chardonnays. If you visit just one, it should be the Fess Parker Winery.
              • Walk. A ramble around downtown offers a chance to admire Santa Barbara’s signature Mission Revival architecture. Or take a more in-depth approach and sign up for a walking tour.
              • Tour. Don’t miss the Old Santa Barbara Mission, a 1786 landmark and one of the area’s true historical gems. Also worth visiting are the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, which specializes in 19th- and early 20th-century works, and the planetarium at the Natural History Museum.
