Fashionable Stays

The NoMad Hotel Housed in a turn of the century Beaux-Arts building, just steps from the Maison Kitsume shop, this NYC hotspot is big on velvet club chairs, deep tones of crimson, and pretty people. At night, you'll find a super-stylish crowd sipping cocktails at the Elephant Bar, before dinner at the hotel's low-lit Atrium restaurant, run by chef Chef Daniel Humm from Eleven Madison Park.

The New York EDITION Ian Schrager’s much-anticipated hotel opened its doors in May of this year—and it's become the city's it place to be. There's the oak-paneled foyer with a 30-foot long, hand-foraged black steel fireplace; the sophisticated cocktail library lounge; Chef Jason Atherton’s perennially packed The Clocktower restaurant; and 273 gorgeous rooms and suites, done up in soothing shades of taupe, ivory and white.

The Hotel Americano NYC Chelsea is a hotbed of fashion shows and Hotel Americano is smack dab in the middle of the action. The property hosts some of the week's hottest parties, so you may get a glimpse of big runway names. Head to the rooftop bar and restaurant, with a buzzy crowd and small plunge pool for when the night heats up.

Boozy Brunches

Santina The latest from the trio behind Parm, Carbone and ZZ's Clam Bar has fast become the city's coolest new brunch time hang out. First, there's the location, under the High Line and just steps from the new Whitney. Then there's the breezy coastal Med-inspired decor. And finally, the menu, which has crowdpleasers like Panettone French Toast topped with maple syrup, rich frittatas, and perfectly grilled fish sandwiches.

Dimes You'd think all the lovely skinny people in NYC this week would skip breakfast, but no. Dimes is where they gather for Acai bowls, hangover-killing egg sandwiches, and cups of wickedly strong coffee.

Balthazar This French-inspired bistro in Soho never goes out of style. Come at any hour, any day of the week and you're sure to find a packed dining room full of chic New Yorkers and tourists downing Mimosas and dining on classics like steak tartare and Salade Nicoise.

Best New Boutiques

Givenchy This too-cool-for-school label is making its way from Paris to NYC with its first flagship debuting on Madison Avenue. Boy-wonder designer Ricardo Tischi will be in town for the festivities and is opening his runway show to the public on September 11.

Moschino The take "no prisoners" Italian designer Jeremy Scott is a favorite of Katie Perry and Madonna, and he's just opened a new eye-popping Moschino shop in Soho. It's like one big fashion playground, with oversized purses, larger-than-life patent pumps, and massive hangers.

Jeffrey Rudes This new menswear company, co-founded by designer Rudes of J Brand jeans fame, makes impeccably tailored separates, with a distinct contemporary edge. Everything in his Soho boutique, from the leathers to the shearlings, is meant to be worn with your best denim.

COS The utilitarian-chic look is still a fashion editor favorite and Cos has mastered it. The shop is like an upgraded H+M⎯the clothing is of higher quality and the design hits just the right note of trendy without being teenybopper.

Roots A Canadian favorite of the 70's, this cooler-than-thou brand just opened its first East Coast outpost in Nolita. Best bets: Naturally dyed leather bags, chunky sweaters, leather boots and shoes⎯it's everything you need for a fall weekend.

ED Ellen Degeneres at Bergdorf Goodman Yes, it's an unusual partnership, but there's no question DeGeneres has taste in spades. This special boutique at Bergdorf Goodman carries her handcrafted collection of textiles, clothing and housewares.

Shopping Coffee Break

Ralph's Coffee If you happen to be shopping on 5th Avenue, swing by the second floor coffee bar at the Polo Ralph Lauren boutique. Pick up a steaming cup of Ralph Lauren's own brew, along with an almond croissant.

BG Cafe Everyone knows Bergdorf Goodman’s BG restaurant, with it’s sweeping New York views and g, but one level down is BG cafe' where you can eat wonderfully fresh food and be in and out in 20. The service is stellar, and the salads and soups delicious.

Via Quadronno It's the uptown coffee spot of choice for the sophisticated set, from Carolina Herrera to Lauren Santo Domingo. Order a double espresso with a slice of the Torta al Taglio, made with coffee plum, chocolate raspberry, and campagnola.

Viand Coffee Shop In the middle of luxury row is an old school coffee joint that continues to hold court. It's a great spot for your eggs over medium and the staff will get you in and out, so you can continue your credit card workout.

The Standard It's one of the sceniest spots in New York⎯and in a good way. Grab a cappucino at the Standard High Line's loungey lobby, ice rink, or in a cozy merlot banquette at the Standard Grill. The people watching is some of the best around.

Hottest Tables

Indochine It’s been a favorite of the fashion industry since opening in 1984. The French-Vietnamese cuisine is stellar⎯try the Asian crab cakes and glazed duck breast ⎯ and the seductive vibe will transport you to 1930s Saigon.

Untitled Housed in the new Whitney, Chef Michael Anthony’s Untitled is one of the city's hardest reservations. If you manage to get a table, go for the smoked clams, cucumber and yogurt or lamb chops served with ricotta, asparagus and olives. You won't regret it.

Heyward Yes, it's Williamsburg, but this place is worth the trek. After all, you may be there anyway for the Montcler show. The owners of West Village spot Hudson Clearwater opened this Southern-tinged restaurant last year. The decor is pure Brooklyn (think a tin ceiling, raw oyster bar, wood benches, and exposed white brick), and the food is hearty and decadent, so come with an appetite. Start with the shrimp and grits, followed by the duck and creamy polenta pancakes, all worth the calories.

The Monkey Bar The dimly lit Money Bar is the place to see and be seen. Owned by Vanity Fair editor, Graydon Carter, the restaurant has a long and storied history that dates back to pre-WWII. Get an old-school classic like lobster thermidor and let the wine flow.

Sceney Bars and After Hours Dancing

The Bar, at the Baccarat The crimson-hued salon at the Baccarat Hotel is one of the most dazzling bars in the city. Underneath rose-tinted Baccarat chandeliers, there's a 60-foot natural-wood bar, where a sophisticated crowd feasts on caviar, duck pastrami sliders, and classic cocktails like the French 75.

Sixty-Five The Rainbow Room received a much-needed face-lift last year. The main room is closed on weekends but the cocktail bar, with its floor-to-ceiling views that look out over the city, stays open throughout the week.

Le Bain at The Standard Hotel This New York club and bar never gets old. Leggy models, creative types, and young professionals hit the grass covered roof for drinks, dancing, and dips in the plunge pool. There's even a creperie' set up for late night munchies.
