9 NYC Hotels We’re Crazy About

Designer digs in a landmark clock tower. A hip boite in a former Williamsburg factory. A French jeweler’s dazzling debut in Midtown Manhattan. New York’s five-star sleeps keep getting better. Jetsetter correspondent Emily Saladino checks in on our favorite luxury stays, from the new to the classic.

The NoMad

Why we love it: This chic Beaux-Arts boutique hotel brings Gallic elegance to a block once dominated by wig shops and off-brand perfumeries. Jacques Garcia designed the 168 guestrooms and suites, as well as the award-winning bar and restaurant from Eleven Madison Park's Daniel Humm. Don't miss the roast chicken à deux, stuffed with foie gras and brioche (or the glamorous people watching).
Insider's tip: In October, Humm and restaurateur Will Guidara will publish The NoMad Cookbook & Cocktail Book, a $100 linen-bound book-within-a-book designed to make the cult cocktailer on your holiday gift list very happy.

Crosby Street Hotel

Why we love it: Firmdale’s New York City debut has 86 rooms and suites on a leafy cobblestone street in Soho. Kit Kemp designed the industrial space with warmth and whimsy — think stylized floral textiles in the guestrooms and jewel-tone Moroccan pendant lamps in the buzzy gastropub.
Insider’s tip: The second-floor Meadow Suite has a spacious terrace garden, with more than 50 varieties of flora and fauna.

The Chatwal

Why we love it: A splash of Art Deco swagger in buttoned-up Midtown, the Chatwal is housed in a Stanford White-designed landmark near Bryant Park. Manhattan power players break brioche at Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian's Lambs Club restaurant, and the lower-level, 2,400-square-foot Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa provides oxygen facials and hot stone massages alongside a saltwater lap pool.
Insider's tip: Attention, staycationers: The Chatwal offers local guests a special that includes an overnight stay, cocktails at the Lambs Club and a spa certificate — while their apartment gets a scrubdown from top to bottom.

The Wythe Hotel

Why we love it: Brooklyn’s cool kids clean up real nice at the Wythe, a sceney spot in a former warehouse steps from hipster haven McCarren Park. Andrew Tarlow, Williamsburg restaurateur extraordinaire (of Diner and Marlow & Sons fame), is the man behind the industrial-chic Reynard restaurant and the trendy rooftop watering hole the Ides.
Insider’s tip: The Wythe doesn’t provide room service, but it has free WiFi in all guestrooms. Download the Seamless or GrubHub app and order in from neighborhood favorites Allswell and Five Leaves.

Langham Place

Why we love it: This Fifth Avenue looker opened in 2013, but it oozes the sort of grand, expense-account-ready glamour of pre-2008 Manhattan. The hotel bar Measure pairs gastropub favorites with cocktails and solid craft beers (Corsican wheat ale, anyone?), and Michael White's Michelin-starred Ai Fiori restaurant is a vision in pressed linen and white marble.
Insider's tip: Six rooms on the fifth and 11th floors have private terraces — but they're not listed on the hotel website. Request the Executive Place or Deluxe rooms 516, 517 or 519, or 1101, 1103 or 1104 for coveted outdoor space with a view of the Manhattan skyline.

The Plaza Hotel

Why we love it: With its Central Park views, National Historic Landmark status and a century of notable guests, the Plaza is New York's ultimate grande dame. The chateau-style high-rise has 282 guestrooms and suites with iPads and Louis XV-style interiors, plus a Todd English food hall, luxe boutiques Assouline and Krigler, and the touristy-but-iconic afternoon tea at Palm Court.
Insider's tip: In June 2015 the 29 Legacy Suites were renovated by Champalimaud Design, of Boston's Liberty Hotel and London's Dorchester. Look for custom pieces like black lacquer end tables, and light fixtures made from cascading amber crystals.

Baccarat

Why we love it: France’s iconic 251-year-old jewelry brand made its glittering hotel debut across from the Museum of Modern Art earlier this year. There are more than 15,000 individual crystals throughout the property, not to mention gorgeous 18th-century paintings and the first stateside La Mer spa. Chevalier, the on-site restaurant, unites local legends Charles Masson, previously of La Grenouille, and former Cru chef Shea Gallante.
Insider's tip:The high-tech lights, curtains and temperature controls in the guestrooms are run by Google Nexus smartphones, which are arguably the city's most elegant universal remotes.

1 Hotel

Why we love it: Starwood’s Barry Sternlicht planted his eco-luxe flag on Central Park South this year, and green has never looked so good. The Avroko-designed interiors include a three-story living wall and repurposed materials aplenty — those rustic-chic wooden wall panels are made from upcycled pieces of an old water tower. Jonathan Waxman oversees the hotel restaurant, and there’s even an on-site farmers market to keeps locavores happy.
Insider’s tip: Take advantage of 1 Hotel’s covetable location and passion for the great outdoors with an evening excursion to Central Park organized by the hotel, complete with complimentary sky maps and binoculars.

The Edition

Why we love it: Ian Schrager gets his Big Apple back on at this jaw-dropping spot inside a landmarked 41-story clock tower on Madison Square. The former Metropolitan Life Insurance building (built in 1909) now has 273 guestrooms with oak floors, sky-high windows and custom Le Labo bath amenities. Wear a statement pocket square to the clubby Clocktower restaurant (the U.S. debut from Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton), which hosts lively crowd 24/7.
Insider tip: For unparalleled views, book room 2510, a 505-square-foot loft suite that has vistas of the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Williamsburg Bridges, the East and Hudson Rivers, the Freedom Tower and a faraway land called "New Jersey."
