America’s Best All-Inclusive Resorts

The Caribbean isn’t the only place with choice all-inclusives. Back in the USA, there are plenty of hotels as luxe as they are fun, and let you (blissfully) put away your wallet—until check-out, at least. Here are 10 stateside stays where one price fits all.

Mohonk Mountain House, New York

New Yorkers have been coming to this Victorian castle resort upstate since it opened in 1869. Guests can expect a surprisingly diverse range of activities, from paddle-boarding and mindfulness meditation to geology lessons, nature walks, golf, and more. Book a tower room for a wood-burning fireplace and bird's-eye views of the Catskill Mountains. JS Tip: It's worth paying a little extra for spa access. We love the espresso mud scrub, which uses ground Arabica beans.

Twin Farms, Vermont

If a crackling fire beside a stone hot tub with views of rolling green hills is your idea of paradise, then Twin Farms is the place for you. What to expect? Canoeing the Copper Pond, hiking (or skiing) the hotel's private slopes, fly fishing, sunset dips, and decadent breakfasts on the terrace (lemon soufflé pancakes, anyone?).

Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado

John Wayne might have scoffed at this Wild West–meets–LA-luxe resort, where guests camp amid crystal chandeliers, buttery leather armchairs, and antiques while sipping Whispering Angel rosé and eating farm fresh meals. Tucked deep in the Colorado Rockies, the property is a meticulously restored 19th-century ghost town with an old-fashioned drinking saloon, daily mountain horseback rides, and natural hot springs for unwinding after long days spent in the great outdoors.

Blackberry Farm, Tennessee

Any foodie with a pulse (and a decent chunk of disposable income) knows about Blackberry Farm, a plush culinary getaway in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The 4,200-acre estate has everything a die-hard gastronome could want, from resident cheese makers and chocolatiers to butchers, foragers, and a 160,000-bottle wine cellar. It also has all the conventional resort amenities you'd expect, including tennis courts, a pool, a game room, and spa. This is the new Tennessee.

Set on 120 gorgeous acres in Malibu, Ranch at Live Oak doesn't skimp on amenities: there's an organic garden, a saltwater swimming pool, and even a massage village. Grand Hotel Mackinac Island, Michigan

The red-roofed Grand Hotel has been a Midwest icon since it opened its doors in 1887, thanks in part to its claim as having the longest front porch in the world. Staying here is like stepping back in time: guests get around by bicycle and horse-drawn carriage, and there's croquet and afternoon cocktails on the lawn followed by porch dancing in the late evenings. Rooms are every bit as charming as they were back in the day, with colorful layered patterning that looks like it could have been designed by Dorothy Draper. Don't miss the five-course dinners in the main dining room, where you'll feast on dishes like burgundy escargot in garlic parsley cream while looking out on the Straits of Mackinac.

Little St. Simons Island, Georgia

Just off the coast of St. Simons Island, Little St. Simons is the ne plus ultra of southern hospitality and includes everything from naturalist-led island tours and kayak rentals to organic meals (and wines and beers) in the rate. If you're traveling with a group, book the four-room Cedar House, which has an oyster-shell-covered fireplace and screen porch overlooking the river.

Paws Up, Montana

Even the sullenest of teenagers will find it impossible to get bored at this 37,000-acre dude ranch. Sign up for an archery lesson, go for horseback rides, learn outdoor survival skills, or try your hand at fly-fishing à la Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It. For a splurge, book a luxury tent, which puts the glam in glamping – yes, you'll have a butler and a private chef, not to mention an ensuite bathroom.

Miraval, Arizona

Cardio drumming, desert tightrope-walking, and aerial yoga are all on the activity list at Miraval, a 400-acre spa resort in the Santa Catalina foothills. Treatments takes place in one of six tents set in a botanical garden filled with Palo Verde trees or in a building run by health guru Dr. Andrew Weil. What we love most: the swoon-worthy views of the Sonoran landscape.

Travaasa Austin, Texas

In the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, Travaasa is a nature lover's retreat just outside Austin, Texas. There's yoga, yes, and vegan food options, as well as reiki sessions and life coaching, yet it's anything but crunchy, dedicated instead to getting active, bedding down in luxe style, and dining on upscale healthy fare prepared by chef Benjamin Baker. The 40-plus activities start at 6 a.m., and most are included in the rate. Our favorites: the class in mechanical bull riding, hands-on cooking demos, slacklining, and hatchet throwing.
